How are tips done in LV? Do the workers keep the tips for
their individual selves in addition to their daily wages?
Do the tips go into a pool and divided evenly amongst a
group of workers that work in a certain area as tax free
income? Are the tips turned into management and goes
out as part of their daily wages? There are many ways a
business deals with tips. Also as it has been brought up,
the amount of tip depends on the level of service received.
Bad service means little or no tips.
Businesses also have to record tips for tax purposes also,
that is how its done locally at our hotels and restaurants for
state and federal taxes. Gone are the days of pocketing
the tip money tax free.
I would think the casinos are very careful about money
transfers with the workers and guests, and have many
control measures in place to account for every dollar.
I also agree with Annie in the industry as a whole hasn't
done much to bring in more gamblers, as in lowering the
minimum required to play on tables, or increasing the
win odds on the video poker or slot machines. It gets very
discouraging when one drops $50 to $100 and doesn't
even get some small $5 ro $20 pay back wins. I am a
witness to that quite a bit while in LV on the last visit.
I used to get small wins but lose it in the end, but I
enjoyed playing, and the small wins.
I was told that the gaming commission had changed
the odds on machines from $1 down to increase the odds in
the favor of the casino to bring in the casino more cash
to cover for the lack of revenue. The result has been
the lack of people playing slot machines and going to
table games that have better odds of winning.
I've seen nothing lower than $25 and up minimum on tables on
the strip at the newer hotels like the Mirage, Caesar's,
Bally, MGM, TI, etc.
I remember a time the minimum bet was only $1 or
less. Now its common to see $5 and up. Only when
its slow I see $3 tables - and that has been off the
strip and in the downtown casinos, and casinos off
of the strip. Many years ago The Plaza had during
the late evenings two crap tables that was set aside at
.25cent minimum, to help people learn the game,
and not lose too much. They haven't had that table
in years.
Drinks too... yes its free if one is gambling, but pay
highly if not. The worst for me was a $8 rum-coke,
which was a 8 oz glass, full of ice and barely any
rum in it. Basically $1 per ounce.
Lack of revenue and layoffs by the casinos can be seen
in different ways. It can also be seen as a lack of future
foresight and planning by the casino management too.
Another factor is foreign tourism, Apparently Macao,
China has become the prime attraction for gamblers
on that side of the asian world, and drawing
more tourist there and away from going to LV. China
has a booming economy, drawing alot of tourism for
gambling, and allow more winnings too.
Yeah, like Annie says, b#t*h [repeat, repeat]
