I do not know who wrote this but it is absolutely untrue. I
was never rude to anyone. I did receive a call from someone,
I do not recall who it was. When asked for a ride I explained
that I would be unable to provide any transportation and
explained the reasoning for it. The response was done in a
calm tone. The caller did become persistent and refused to
listen to what I had said. If anything the caller was the
one who was rude. If the person making the complaint wishes
to contact me I would be happy to discuss the reported incident.

The truth is that several times during the DLV and contrary
to the written policies I did provide transportation to
several participants. Had I been in a position to give a
ride to the one who made this accusation I probably would
have done so.

Not to be a total snot here, but I would question what part
of "Please do not use the above numbers for the purpose of
asking for a ride." don't they understand? :(

I may have received a call from the same person. This was
Tuesday morning and I was on the Monorail. I did not catch
who it was, and I was having some difficulty hearing the
person on the other end, but she asked me if I was going
to "the show" (which?) that evening. I explained that I
was doing Milano's and then the Bar Crawl and not doing
either show and the response was along the line of "never
mind" or something. I have a feeling she was going to ask
for a ride.

I received another request for a ride, this being on
Wednesday, for a ride from the IP to Caesars for Trevi.
This was literally as I was walking out the door in the
Trevi direction. I explained that Caesars was right
across the street, and said that if she was ready, I
was staying two hotels down and I would walk her over
there, but she did not seem to be interested in that.

This issue (phoning the DLV contact people for a ride) has
been a sore spot for several years. The requests seem to
almost always be at very short notice, and more often than
not the requestor gets upset when you can't either give
them a ride or drop everything else and find them a ride. :(

We may have brought some of this on ourselves, since in the
early days of DLV, I and a few others always drove and in
many cases, getting there was kind of a social activity in
itself. For several years I drove a van, and the gang who
stayed at the Sahara knew the "usual place" to be picked
up.

Unfortunately what worked well when we were a fraction of
our size does not work today. I really don't know of any
workable local transportation solution other than to just
say that everyone needs to make their own arrangements.

Suggestion:

Maybe that statement should have been more emphasized and be in bold
type and/or underlined and placed as the very first paragraph with a
pointer at the very beginning of that email segment, instead of it
being in parenthesis near the bottom of that particular segment which
was after listing the phone numbers in that long email. That particular
statement could have been missed by anyone just looking for numbers to
call and not read beyond seeing those numbers.

More so, that statement is very important, since it was decided to
remove the ride/car pool arrangements starting with this past DLV.

As it appeared in the email:

"(Please do not use the above numbers for the purpose of asking for a
ride. You will be told to please take a taxi, which is very "safe",
even for beginners.) "
