Based on some "proms" I have attended where I live, I think it would be
possible to talk some local gay club into having a "prom" which would be
available to DLV attendees and locals.
Between us and the locals this should provide the "mass" to appeal to
someone on an economic basis. The club that used to do the annual prom I
attended decorated, had a photographer, prom and provided inexpensive
finger foods in a prom like manner. Drinks of course were at their
regular cost. The cover charge was nominal.
This would keep the prom simple to plan, low cost, and offer attendees a
choice of dress from formal dress which would be encouraged, but not
required and appeal to a wider audience.
Trying something simple like this gathered no interest last spring and
the "prom" developed into an expensive and complicated affair that was
doomed to failure and never happened. DLV attendees in my opinion will
not pay a lot for a prom and especially one centered in an out of the
way unknown place.
