Hi There,

I have been reading all of the emails and it has been very
informative and this just sounds like a lot of fun, but since
I have registered and am serious about going...for the first
time...and have never been out dressed, I have a couple of
questions of my own. My wife, who knows I dress and is very
supportive (we go shopping for "Gina" together") will
be coming with me:

We would prefer to stay at a hotel where one of the events
would be held so that the first time I step out I can take
baby steps! The Sahara seems like a good place to stay
based on the feedback, is there anything happening there
event wise? Are the events posted? If an event is not held
at any of the hotels, where are they typically held.

How can I get more info on this years event?

We looked at all the pictures and everyone seems to be having
a great time, but I do have that first timer anxiety... just
trying to minimize it, I have never been out dressed yet,
this just seems like the right time for me and the right event.

Thanks for all your help,

Gina

>I have a couple of questions of my own.

I will try my best to answer. :)

>We would prefer to stay at a hotel where one of the events
>would be held so that the first time I step out I can take
>baby steps!

There is no one hotel on which DLV is centered about.

We are very different from most other TG events in that respect.

We don't rent ballrooms or banquet rooms in hotels. That's not
what we do. We go out, literally.

However (comma) ...

>The Sahara seems like a good place to stay based on the
>feedback,

It's as good as any. If you need turn-down service with a mint
on the pillow, Sahara is not the place.

If you want a clean comfortable room with a fun casino and
such, it's perfect!

>is there anything happening there event wise?

Lunches only, subject to change, of course.

>Are the events posted?

The working schedule is copied to the general mailings. If you
want additional details about any activity, please ask. For some
obvious reasons, and some not so obvious reasons, we don't post
explicit details about where we will be and when in public.

The detailed schedule, with more information than you would ever
want, is sent to all validated attendees in the Large Final
Mailing.

If you're a registered DLV attendee and need to know any
specific details, write in and ask.

>If an event is not held at any of the hotels, where are
>they typically held.

All over, literally!

DLV activities occur all over town and all over the area!

>How can I get more info on this years event?

Read the mailings, the current discussion topics, and the past
discussion topics.

One item which will go out in the next general mailing, due to
go out this weekend, addresses details of activities.

>We looked at all the pictures and everyone seems to be having
>a great time,

Yes, be sure to note all of the smiling faces! :)

>but I do have that first timer anxiety... just trying to
>minimize it,

This is expected.

I would even call it normal.

It's been universally reported since the early days of DLV that
these feelings, although they may be intense and although they
may be troublesome to you, go away very rapidly after meeting
the group.

Let me assure you that even though you may not know anybody
from the group before you come to DLV, you will be among
friends! We have some of the finest people in the known
universe.

>I have never been out dressed yet, this just seems like the
>right time for me and the right event.

Each year since 1997 we've had people do their first time out
at DLV. I can't think of a more supportive atmosphere in which
to do it.

Please let us know if we can be of any further assistance.

I'd like to respond to Gina about her anxiety with heading out for the
first time.

In most cases at strip hotels you will have a generally long walk thru
the casino to get anywhere. Elevator rides with others can be a bit
stressful too. If you think this will be a problem for you perhaps you
might consider one of the motel type places around the strip like Motel
6 or Budget Suites. Booked enough in advance you should be able to get
a downstairs room. You'd have to rent a car (not too expensive) which
you can park right outside your door for a quick entry and exit to your
room. Budget Suites has nice rooms and you can bring your own sheets
and pillows to defray the cost. They have weekly rates (varied) and I
think you will find the cost of the room for a week and the car rental
to be about the same as a strip hotel stay. If you are set on a casino
stay you will receive some phone numbers that you can call one of the
girls if you have apprehensions and she or they will come over and walk
out with you.

We've had incidents in the past where some of the girls couldn't get out
of their rooms and I would hate to see anyone's vacation ruined. I'm
not saying you should hide out of course but maybe for your first time
this might be the way to go.

Imperial Palace and Palace Station still have a section of "garden
rooms", and those would be better than a tower room for those who
might be a bit shy of elevators and hotel lobbies.

Alexis Park and St. Tropez are smaller and lower properties and
they will also have less public contact when exiting.

I would not recommend Budget Suites. I took a look at one of
those at the request of our company's travel department, and the
one I saw was not nice at all. :(

In the event anybody gets "stuck" in a hotel room or in a
vehicle (both have happened at DLV) give a call to our
Big Sister Emergency Hotline. The number will be sent out
in the Large Final Mailing. We'll get a Big Sister to you
right away to assure you and escort you if necessary.

I don't recommend La Quinta, because every time I have stayed at
one, they have double billed me, and the last time, I had to fax the story
five times before they charged it back. They charge you once on the way in,
again on the way out.

Eyes are often a prominent marker for gender identification. Another
trick (that I learned from Annie like 10 years ago) that helps is to
wear women's sunglasses (even at night) walking to/from your room and
through the casino. The hallways and casino, and usually the parking
garage and the outside front of the casino, are usually lit very
brightly. Get some with just a medium tint and you'll see just fine. I
used to do it all the time.

Plus, if those dusty Western winds start blowing as they often due in LV
in Spring, you'll be glad to have them to shield your eyes.

I won't be at DLV this year -- just spent a bundle on a face-lift. ;-)
But, I'll be thinking of you all.

Best Wishes,

Tina Tawdre

Great advice! This will be my first year and this will help. Sorry we
won't see you. If all goes well, maybe we will see you next year. Hope
you surgery was all you hoped for!

Maybe they thought you took two rooms?

I've stayed at La Quinta and didn't have any issues.

No, they charge the first day in advance, and when you check out,
they charge you for every day you stayed there, without deducting
the one you paid for already. I got tired of dealing with it
every time.
