Thanks to all who helped to make DLV 2006 what it was!

As I think back, this one has been, overall, the best DLV ever!

Very few issues and incidents, and big thanks to all who helped to keep
those down. :)

Stay tuned as we follow up on DLV 2006 and get things rolling for
DLV 2007.

Call For Comments:

We want your feedback and comments, both positive and negative. Although
a formal survey will be available shortly, the floor is now open for
just about anything you would like to say. Anything from a few words up
to a book-length manuscript will be accepted. :)

We'll be using the DLV Discussion Forum for this, it's on line at
the URL:

However, we will accept input using about any method you want. You can
mail your comments to dlv@geekbabe.com or just reply to this note. All
comments received will be posted unless something obvious such as "Do
not publish" or "confidential" is stated.

If you liked something in particular, tell the group about it. If you
didn't like something, say so too.

If something unusual or enlightening happened to you, let's hear about
it.

If you went out on your own and did something not on the schedule,
please share it with the others.

Call For Photographs:

After each DLV we make some follow-up web pages consisting of (hundreds
of, in recent years) photographs of the year's event. Here's the way
this works:

1. We invite attendees to send in their photos. That's what we're doing
right now.

2. We place the photos on line in a temporary staging area. We then
give the attendees an opportunity to view them, and everybody gets
a reasonable number of "NO WAY" options on the photos in which they
appear.

3. We then make up the final web pages for the year's event.

We are now inviting everybody to send in their photos, either digital
images or hard copies.

Here are a few guidelines:

* The more the better. No, we can't promise that everything you send in
will be used on the final pages, but they more you send in, the better
the overall view of DLV 2006 will be.

* Any reasonably sane format. Of course, jp(e)g files with a reasonable
quality setting are preferred, but .gif, .bmp, .tiff, .png, or anything
else within reason is acceptable. If you wanna zip 'em or tar 'em, do
it, but it's not necessary.

* The bigger the better, within reason. Original size if possible.
Bandwidth is cheap, the images are priceless. The web server has
utilities to normalize these to consistent size and contrast.

* Anything altered, faked, captioned, with a blurred face, blacked-out
eyes, or cut off head will not be used. Those are worse than no photo at
all, IMAO, that is. :)

You can get these to us by any of the following methods:

1. File attach via e-mail. This is probably the easiest for most of you.
Any sane format. This year we are able to accept binary attachments at
the main dlv@geekbabe.com address.

2. FTP. If you have a Windows-based PC and some kind of a network
connection, you already have everything you need for this. If you
wish to use this method, please e-mail dlv@geekbabe.com for the
host/login/password information plus very explicit instructions
for uploading your photos.

3. Floppy disc or CDROM via snailmail. Send e-mail for the street
address to send these to. If you want them back, I will return.

4. Hardcopy prints via snailmail. Again, send e-mail for the street
address to send these to. I'll get them scanned and returned to you.

And, to answer the questio as to when photos will be on line, as soon
as they start coming in, they will be. :)

The event pin has become an important part of the entire DLV event.
Good job!!! Also, the 2006 pin is a good size.

In order to not have any questions about the $$ for the pin for 07,
NSD-IV will be $20, which will definitely cover the cost of the pins,
snacks and flowers for NSD, and any misc. costs we may incur.

What's the color for 2007? Dark blue, light blue, pink, purple, ...?
