Daytime activities

I have been somewhat disappointed in the lack of daytime activities available at DLV recently. Golf and shooting outings have been successful for several years but the other days need some beefing up during the daylight hours. So I have been trying to come up with something to suggest and/or organize that will be of interest to the gals.

Shopping is something I prefer to do alone or with one or, at most, two other ladies. Katie and I have enjoyed our annual Ross’ pilgrimage because it’s just the two of us. I have also done the Fantastic indoor Swap Meet a couple of times with 3 to 6 others and that’s been fun. So shopping outings I will continue to do with small numbers.

So for daytime activities I would prefer something with more outdoorsy appeal. Two years ago I planned the Red Rock Canyon hike that was a big success. I think we had close to 30 gals for that. Four or five years ago we did the Shiloh Horse Rescue Ranch with 15 ladies and had a good time. I am not sure what to suggest this time. I have heard that the Lake Mead outing a long time ago was fun. Not sure what all was involved with that. I have been to Valley of Fire park and enjoyed that and gone to Hoover Dam twice. Not sure I want to repeat those. (There’s always skydiving!)

I will continue to check out the area and look for something new and different then what I have done in the past, always a goal of mine when I go to LV. I have had several people comment that they would like one or two more golf outings but I am not interested in organizing those. Variety is the name of the game for me. Now maybe a mini golf outing during the day would be fun as even the non-golfers could partake. That wouldn’t take much time, maybe an hour but not more than two. So that could easily be sandwiched in between KKK and Lunch with Ginger/whomever. I know they have both indoor and outdoor mini golf in Las Vegas so depending on weather we could choose either of those. I was also thinking maybe doing a bingo outing in the afternoon might be fun. Horseback riding was also something I kicked around by it requires 3-5 hours for it with drive-time. Not sure that would fit our schedules.

Between all of us I’m sure we will come up with some dynamite suggestions to help out the daytime blahs. What do you think girls? Let's get some suggestions and dialog going.

One thing we haven't done for many years is Valley Of Fire. (It's been said that Red Rock Canyon is the warm-up act for Valley Of Fire.) (Should have read ahead, huh?)

It's a very easy drive, about 45 minutes north of the Strip. You can see the photos from a previous trip there if you surf here and look about 2/3 down the page:

It's not too difficult to coordinate. When I did it I just had everyone do their own tickets and we set up an informal carpool. For some years there was a lunch in Boulder City tied to it.

In the past we've had a few longer side trips, such as Rhyolite (ghost town), Area 51, and Death Valley. I've thought of doing Zion National Park but it's just never happened.

Contacted Jill Curtis on Facebook....It's now Jill Curtis-Webber (she's
since remarried) and she said she'd love to have us ladies over to
Shiloh Horse Rescue again. So, I will take that activity and make the
necessary arrangements.

I'm also looking into a dinner option. Will keep you posted.

How far is The Shiloh ranch from Vegas? This sounds like something I
would like to do but I am wondering how long it would take to drive
there and more importantly back from there so that we will have time to
shower and change for the evening activities.

I am in total agreement that we are in dire need of some daytime
activities which do not involve appointments as when I am in town I do
not need a set time to be anywhere during the day.

I am sorry to say that I never got around to the boat trip when it was
on the schedule. The Lake Mead boat trip was always done when we had DLV
in early May though and it was probably quite warm even out on the lake
but I suspect that it will be very cold on the water even with a slight
breeze in late March once we leave the boat dock.

The western store venue was something I only wanted to throw out there
and not to be taken too seriously. More like a what do you think idea.
If there is interest we could probably do it. The store is diagonally
across the street from The South Outlet Mall so it could be combined wot
some serious shopping for those who are on a roll after browsing the
Western store.

I will definitely be doing the Bev'n Katie Ross pilgrimage again. I can
always find something here I like and for those who are not familiar
with Ross Stores, the prices are unreal. (This would be at the Ross
store behind Wallgreens drug store near The Riviera Hotel and not the
really busy one on the south strip across from The Aria.).

IIRC it's out in the toolies off the side of a side road just across the California state line. Also, IIRC, it's less than an hour's drive from LV.

I'm sure there will be a carpool, or, as we did last time, we can take the Pine City Stage.

It's about a 45 minute drive. Nice drive. We can car pol. Our truck can
take 3 passenger...more if we tie you down into the truck bed....LOL! .

We stopped and had lunch after leaving Shiloh.

Well, it has been 4 years since our last visit. If he was old then he
might have passed on. If not, you can rub some oils on your ankles that
dogs don't find attractive. Then, we can always ask Jill if her
ankle-biting dog is still around. At least you didn't have that tiny
donkey following you around like it was me.

1. Do what people do in LV - gamble on slots - do a slot tournament -
investigate different daily tournaments with moderate entrance fees -
have a DLV Slot Tournament

2. Shopping the town tour - on and off bus - all day pass, do stops at
the shopping centers and museums on bus path, no need to drive, harder
to stay in a group

3. Once was a talk of creating the "Order of the Flying Wig" - go on all
the major roller coasters, including Primm. Completion of all LV
coasters and no wigs flying off - become annual members of the Order,
immediate loss of a wig is instant membership - so each person is
responsible for their wig, and no one blamed for losing it - ie wear a
cheap wig. Thought was creating a button for annual re-membership. The
secret is wearing a hoodie with a drawstring tightly around the face --
it works I did it, along with tons of hair pins holding my wig. The
other is the potential of the fake boob falling out with all the G
forces, and don't go on with a weak or full stomach. do not go on with
others who just ate too. This includes several rides at the top of the
Stratosphere.

4. Explore the breakfast and luncheon dining of LV - plan each year to
dine at non-repeating and different and new places for lunch. Seems most
nights HH and dinners are already taken. There are many places, and
different costs, and some are buffets.

5. If you can handle being around kids or confident around kids
there is also Go-Kart racing - but it can be pricy.

6. Since there is a pinball museum and one can play them, is it possible
to plan a Pin ball tourn using their machines, entry fee is the pay your
own money to play the machine, and to pay for prize at the end.

7. IF DLV is early enough in the year - or later - Hike or Ski Mt
Charleston.

8. Go to a casino huge pool - Tropicana or Mandalay Bay - rent a room
for a day to change and hit the pool

9. How many people play tennis - in a femme outfit - find a
public/private court - dress in the best short skirt or skort tennis
outfit and have a fun tournament. Where does one hold the tennis
balls? Good question.

10 See afternoon shows in the casinos - they have them too.

The Valley of Fire is suppose to be really pretty. It is like an hour from Vegas, which is a reasonable day trip.
