Welcome and updates:
Diva Las Vegas 2014 is just two weeks away!
Yes, there's still time to get in on things, but the clock is ticking!
See "What you need to do" below if you are new and wish to participate.
. . . . . . . . . .
Between now and DLV 2014 our general mailings will come out as needed,
but sticking to the weekend schedule if possible. Please watch your
inboxes for any important announcements.
. . . . . . . . . .
As of this time we currently have 192 individuals, including 32 SOs,
signed up to attend. Numbers are converging in the 160-ish range for
a total final headcount.
. . . . . . . . . .
If you will not be joining us:
By now, everyone who is registered should know with close to 100%
certainty if you will or will not be attending. If you are registered
and know that you will not be with us, please give us the courtesy of a
cancellation. We sure hate to see you cancel, but it gets you off the
rolls, makes our numbers more accurate, and lets others move up on the
waiting lists and such.
You can cancel on line via the registration screen, or just reply to
this mailing and state that you will not be joining us this year.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Activity sign-up is in progress:
Everyone who registered for Diva Las Vegas 2014 prior to Saturday
morning should have received their activity sign-up mailing by now.
It is VERY important that if you registered and did not receive this,
THAT YOU LET US KNOW ABOUT IT!
Those who recently registered should receive the activity sign-up
mailing on Monday.
. . . . .
If you have not made your activity selections yet, please do so at your
earliest convenience.
Just follow the link that was sent to you in your activity sign-up
e-mail. You can also use the "Activity Sign-Up" button on your DLV
registration screen (follow the link that was sent to you immediately
after you registered) or if you are a MyDLV member you can use the
appropriate button on the main MyDLV screen.
Even if you do not wish to participate in any optional activities, we
are still asking you to fill out the activity sign-up screen. This also
reconfirms your intent to attend.
In most cases you can change your mind at any time and indicate your
changes. There is a special "line place holder" on most activities.
. . . . . . . . . .
As of this time the following activities are full and in a waiting
list state:
Bar Rescue Tour, Sunday
Grotto dining option, Sunday
Ruths Chris dining option, Tuesday
Hofbrau dining option, Tuesday
Some Bare Escentuals makeover sessions (see below)
The Mexican dining option on Thursday, which was marked as full for a
while, has been increased in capacity and everyone who was on the
waiting list is now confirmed for this activity.
This year, our volunteers have been very diligent in "right sizing"
many of the activities to meet demand. Only the activities which have
smaller "hard limits" for capacity are expected to go into a waiting
list state this year.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
New Attendee Welcome and Orientation:
This is a special invitation to all first-year attendees.
We are encouraging all who have never attended Diva Las Vegas in the
past, regardless of background or experience level, to attend our
special New Attendee Welcome and Orientation.
This will be your "official welcome" to our event.
This will occur on Monday of DLV week just prior to the main evening
festivities, in the same venue.
No, we're not gonna talk down to you or lecture you on how to dress or
behave!
We are taking pains to make this comfortable for those who are new to
public exposure, and interesting and relevant for Las Vegas locals,
those who are familiar with other events, and those who have significant
public exposure. The first new attendee who tells Annie that he or she
is thirsty during this activity will be treated to the beverage of his
or her choice.
To encourage attendance, there will be a meaningful prize give-away
during this activity All new attendees who are present will be eligible
to win! These prizes will be things that everyone will like and will be
able to use.
DLV check-in and name tags will be available.
Please make plans to attend this if you are new to DLV.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Three important announcements:
First, a number of queries have been posted regarding activity
locations. We do not publish a list of activity locations in public, but
locations, map links, contact numbers, etc. will be sent to all who are
registered in the Large Final Mailing.
If anyone who is registered has a need to know more detail about the
locations in advance of the Large Final Mailing, write in via e-mail
(dlv@geekbabe.com) and we will help you out.
. . . . .
Second. We don't want anyone to be disappointed! Several have replied on
the Discussion Forum to the effect of "count me in" or "I will be there"
in response to activity highlights. These responses do show your
interest, but are not what counts for any activity requiring a sign-up.
It's the filling out of your activity sign-up screen that gets you on
the official lists for activities which require a sign-up.
. . . . .
Third, if an activity does not appear on the activity sign-up screen, it
means that no sign-up is necessary. All you have to do to attend these
activities is to be on the roster of registered DLV attendees.
We hope this clears up a few items. If anyone has any questions or
concerns about our activities, please let us know.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Misunderstandings and disappointments:
We want everyone who participates in Diva Las Vegas, including YOU,
to get the most from it!
Many of you have spent well into four figures to make the trip to Las
Vegas possible, and we want to be sure that you have a good return on
that investment.
We also want to be sure that you get a good return on your "emotional
investment" in the event as well!
If you are a first year attendee, one thing you can certainly do to
reduce the chance of disappointment is to join us for our New Attendee
Welcome and Orientation on Monday. See notice above.
Here are a few of the frequently-reported items which prevent the
maximum enjoyment and satisfaction of DLV:
1. Assuming too much similarity to other TG events.
Although we emphasize over and over that we are a "vacation, not a
convention", it is frequently reported, particularly by new attendees,
that they expect that we are far more similar to the other TG events
than we actually are.
. . . . .
2. Being unprepared.
This is kind of a corollary to number 1 above.
Our unique model depends upon the attendees assuming more responsibility
than is needed at the other TG events. This includes such things as
having schedules and maps handy, planning one's own daily schedule, and
planning transportation to the various activities that make up our
event.
Please don't be a "low information" attendee!
. . . . .
3. Failing to pay attention to important deadlines and cutoffs.
We only have a few hard-stop cut-offs and payment deadlines this year,
but a very frequently-reported disappointment reported over the years is
missing a deadline. Plan ahead!
. . . . .
4. Punctuality (or rather lack of it) and procrastination.
Attendees, both new and previous, often underestimate the required
real-world get ready and get there time! The time spent doing such
things as waiting for an elevator, walking to the car, waiting on line
for a taxi, seeking a parking spot, etc. can really add up!
Likewise, Las Vegas traffic can be very heavy, especially in the Strip
area, and Las Vegas stoplight cycles are typically longer than in most
other cities.
Holding off on decisions and actions such as booking a hotel room,
signing up for activities, etc. can have consequences!
. . . . .
5. Selecting a hotel far away from the others.
This is particularly important for those who will not be driving a
vehicle and wish to share rides with others. Don't be "penny wise and
pound foolish" when selecting your hotel. A few long taxi rides each day
can easily offset the savings of a bottom-dollar hotel!
. . . . .
6. Failing to let us know if something is wrong.
If something is wrong, or you don't understand something, we want to
know about it, and we need to know about it while there is still time to
do something about it! If you get lost and can't find the group, phone
our contact people and we'll get you on track. If something is wrong at
an activity, find the Coordinator (name on final schedule) and say so.
Please do not wait until our event is over (and we can no longer do
anything) to let us know that something is wrong!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
What you need to do:
If you would like to get in on Diva Las Vegas 2014, here is what you
need to do:
IF YOU HAVE TAKEN NO ACTION AT ALL
First you will need to register for the event. You can register on
line here:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvreg2014.html
There is no cost to register.
Registration is your "key to the door" for this event, and gets you
on the path to participation.
One very important note about registration. When you register you will
receive a confirming e-mail very shortly. In the event that you do not
receive this, SOMETHING IS WRONG and we need to know about it! Let us
know by e-mail if you receive absolutely nothing after you register.
. . . . .
IF YOU HAVE REGISTERED BUT NOT SIGNED UP FOR ACTIVITIES
Follow the link that was sent to you. If you did not receive this, let
us know. Alternatively you may go back to your registration screen and
use the "Activity Sign-Up" button. If you are a MyDLV member, you can
also use the appropriate link on the main MyDLV screen.
Activity sign-up also reconfirms your intent to attend. It's a "sign of
life" that we need to see at this time. Therefore please fill out the
activity sign-up screen, leaving all selections blank, if you do not
wish to do any of the optional activities.
. . . . .
IF YOU HAVE NOT MADE YOUR LODGING ARRANGEMENTS
Do not wait any longer! Hotels are filling up and prices are rising!
Our suggested hotels for DLV are outlined here:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2014hotels.html
If none of those selections appeal to you, use the hotels on our
Big List as secondary suggestions. This is on line here:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/vendors/#CasinoHotel
Please remember that if you will not be driving a vehicle and need to
share rides with others, it's best if you select a hotel in the vicinity
of our suggested hotels, all which are located within a few blocks of
the Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road intersection.
If you have difficulty finding a hotel room, or one that you think you
can afford, the best thing to do is to contact the Las Vegas Convention
and Visitors Authority Toll-free: 877-VISITLV (877-847-4858).
They will know who has rooms available, at what prices, and in many
cases can do the booking for you. Please state that you are looking
for a hotel room in the "Strip-Flamingo" general vicinity.
. . . . .
IF YOU HAVE DONE ALL OF THE ABOVE
Pack your bags! You're all set! See you in Las Vegas!
. . . . .
A good summary of the steps you need to take in order to participate can
be found on line here:

Bare Escentuals Makeover status:
This note is for those who are signed up for, or plan to sign up for
one of the Bare Escentuals Makeover Sessions on Sunday, Monday, or
Tuesday of DLV week.
Kandi writes:
For the Bare Escentuals Makeup sessions there are duplicates and some
over-bookings I need to straighten out. So, if you signed up for more
than one session or you are wait-listed for a session, please go back to
your registration and select just one session for yourself.
You can access your registration screen here ...
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvreg2014.html
.. or use the link that was sent to you when you registered.
We expect all the sessions on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday to be
completely filled up and we want everyone to have their individual
session. If you want to go back later in the week (Thursday or Friday)
you are welcome to 'stop by' during the store hours, no problem.
Please change your selections, today. Please look at the Makeup Sessions
topic;
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2795
It is suggested that you bring a printout of this cookbook so you can
take notes during your session;

Any questions or concerns, please let us know.
