Diva Las Vegas 2013:

Welcome to those who just registered or just joined the list! We're
looking forward to seeing you in April.

As of Friday, we have 146 signed up to attend. We're on track for a
crowd of about the same size or slightly larger than we had in 2012.

If you just joined us, please catch up with the back mailings, on
line here:

viewforum.php?f=4

Please be sure to read our "kick off" mailing at:

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2547

If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
. . . . . . . . . .

Activity Highlights will be posted regularly between now and the
big event on the Diva Las Vegas Discussion Forum. If you're not a
subscriber, you can read these on line here:

viewforum.php?f=2

The Activity Highlight items will be posted as "sticky" up toward
the top of the main Discussion Forum page.

Schedule notes:

We're just over two months out from the big event and our schedule
is shaping up nicely. Big thanks go out to our volunteers for being
"ahead of the power curve" this year!

>From now until the event, we'll be posting our working schedule in
our general mailings. Please remember that everything on it is still
"in pencil" and we caution you to please not make any nonrefundable
arrangements based on these preliminary schedules.

We have a very good mix of our favorites, some new twists on some
recurring activities, and a selection of those new for 2013.

Schedule highlights include Newcomer Open House sessions on Sunday,
Monday, and Tuesday; early-morning coffee sessions Monday thru
Friday; our big Welcome Meet And Greet on Monday; the annual Diva
Las Vegas Invitational Golf tournament on Tuesday; an evening at
the Fremont Street Experience on Tuesday; Pole Dance Lessons and a
special Reception and Swap Meet at the Erotic Heritage Museum on
Wednesday; plus our perennial favorites the Limousine Tour on
Thursday evening and the High Tea on Friday afternoon. We'll have
our big blow-out Grand Finale Farewell Celebration followed by
dancing on Friday.

Many others are in the works at this time. Stay tuned for details.

What you need to do:

Here's a quick run-down of the steps you need to take if you want
to join us in April.

First of all, if you've never attended before, please be aware of
what Diva Las Vegas is and what it is not. The biggest "surprise"
reported by new attendees in the past is that they assumed that
we were very similar to such things as Southern Comfort and
Colorado Gold Rush, which we are not. Please be sure to look over
the web site and the FAQ and be aware of what you've registered
for.
. . . . .

The next step is to register.

If you've never attended Diva Las Vegas before, register here:

If you have attended in the past, please register here:

Alternatively, most returnees can use the direct "minimum clicks"
express re-registration that was sent out in early January. Those
who are members of MyDLV may register at their convenience using
the button on the main MyDLV screen.
. . . . .

Next you'll need to make your lodging and travel arrangements.

Unlike most other TG events, Diva Las Vegas is not centered around
a hotel. Hotels are used for attendee lodging and you can stay
wherever you want.

We're suggesting a small number of hotels for those who wish to be
in the vicinity of other DLV attendees, and for those who are not
familiar with Las Vegas hotels. Information on our suggested hotels
appears here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2013hotels.html
. . . . .

When you arrive, you may initially join us at any activity which
is convenient for you. Although our event runs from Sunday to the
next Friday, there is no designated time at which you must "report
in" to the event. You may check in at any activity which ia marked
"check-in available" on our schedule, and as long as you're on our
roster you may attend anything on the schedule prior to your first
opportunity to check in.

If you have any questions or concerns, please get them answered
well in advance instead of waiting until "crunch time" to do it.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Things to come:

The next big milestone will be activity sign-up, which will occur
toward the end of March.

Activity sign-up is when you tell us which of the many optional
DLV activities you want to do.

Most of our activities are "No sign-up, just show up" and those
don't need any kind of formality to attend, except for the main
DLV registration, of course.

Some of the activities, however, require some type of sign-up,
reservation, headcount, or in a few cases a payment in advance,
and those activities for which some action is needed are included
in our activity sign-up process.

Further details on activity sign-up will appear as we approach the
date.
. . . . . . . . . .

During the week prior to the event, we will be sending out our
Large Final Mailing to all who are registered.

We're continuing the "on the web experiment" for the Large Final
Mailing for this year. Most of the actual content will appear as
web pages as opposed to being sent as individual e-mails.

The Large Final Mailing will contain many things, including:

* Late Notices - Changes - Updates
* Detailed Maps And Schedules
* Contact Information - Local phone numbers
* Making contact, checking in, etc.
* Getting there and getting around
* Photography information and Guidelines
* What to do in case something is wrong
* Discounts And Promotions

In addition, you'll also receive a summary of your activity sign
ups as your "itinerary" for the week.

Computer security, in particular Yahoo:

If you use Yahoo, please read this item carefully, as more detailed
information has emerged since we last asked users to check their
computer security.

This applies most specifically to users of Yahoo, but users of
other services, such as AOL, have been affected by this exploit.

Over the past several days, we've seen a number of cases where
bogus e-mail has been received by us from those having various
DLV addresses in their address books or contact lists. These
e-mail items are obviously not being intentionally sent by the
holders of these accounts.

Some of these recent exploits are incredibly clever and amazingly
effective in getting users, including many who are somewhat
technically-savvy, to reveal their passwords.

Here's the scenario which has reported to have occurred in some
recent known cases of this type of account hijacking:

1. You receive an e-mail, often times from someone you know and
presumably trust, to visit a particular URL on the web.

2. You click on the enclosed URL and a web page appears that says
that you must be logged in to Yahoo (or AOL or any of several
services) to view the content.

3. You enter your Yahoo (or other service) user ID and password
(AT THIS POINT YOU HAVE REVEALED YOUR PASSWORD
TO A DISREPUTABLE PARTY) and one of the following happens:

a. You are taken to a page of some insignificant content.

b. A page appears saying that your login and password are
incorrect. Re-entering may or may not take you to a genuine
Yahoo (or other service) page.

c. A blank page or a page containing some kind of (possibly
obscure or arcane) error message.

4. Hours, days, weeks, possibly months go by and your Yahoo (or
other) account appears to work normally.

5. You may or may not start receiving e-mail from your contacts
stating that you are sending bogus e-mail, or you may receive
security notices from various entities (possibly including us).

If you believe that you may be a victim of this type of exploit,
it's very easy to correct. It's very seldom necessary to abandon
an e-mail account or use expensive remedies to deal with this.
Most cases can be easily and quickly corrected as follows:

1. Change your Yahoo (or other service) password. Be sure that
the computer you make this change from is known to be clean.

2. Check your e-mail settings. If anything appears to have changed,
correct it.

3. In the future, be VERY careful when you click on any link
received via e-mail, even those coming from those you know
and trust!

4. Be sure that you use a set of security (anti-virus, anti-
spyware, anti-malware) software on your computer. Contrary to
some widely-held beliefs, certain brands or types of computers
are NOT immune to exploits!

For Yahoo users, further information on this very topic can be
obtained here:

This link has been verified as a genuine Yahoo page.

And, please don't shoot the messenger! If you get a note from one
of your e-mail contacts, or a security notice from Geekbabe Abuse
and Security, please don't get upset. Please take it seriously.
