Welcome to those who just registered or just joined the list.
If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.

If you haven't registered for DLV 2009, see the item below.

We're now less than three months out from the big event and
everybody's getting excited. We're going to have a very good
crowd this year, with a good mix of newcomers and returnees.

Our validated headcount now sits at 124. It's still too early
for any kind of a total turnout prediction, even a guess.

We have one registration that still needs to be validated.

Big Sister Volunteers needed:

Our Big Sister Program has, literally, changed lives!

Here's a first-person report from Little Sister Rosada about
her Big Sister Mindy at Rosada's first DLV:

+I couldn't have asked for a nicer and sweeter Big Sister. She did
+everything a Big Sister should do. She suggested new make-up. The
+one I had bought on the internet was a joke. She took me shopping.

+And she took me to go have my make-up done at the mall. It was
+fun!! We laughed and, I think, even cried at all my adventures,
+or misadventures, during my first DLV.

There are countless similar stories over the history of DLV.

Experiences such as this are only possible if we have enough
Big Sister volunteers that we can make a "best-fit" match with
each Little Sister.

Being a Big Sister does not have to be a high-maintenance
situation. As a Big Sister volunteer, you call the shots as
far as whether you're available before DLV, during DLV, or
both, and exactly what you are and are not willing to do
as a Big Sister.

If you're a returnee this year, please consider volunteering
as a Big Sister. You can volunteer by simply updating your
registration. Just follow the link that was sent to you when
you registered. Or, just e-mail bigsister@geekbabe.com and
we will take it from there.

who are members of this list. Use the appropriate URL below to
register for DLV 2009.

If you're new, here's a summary of what you need to do if you
want to attend DLV 2009:

1. Read the web site carefully. http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/

Be sure you know what DLV is and what DLV is not. Please don't
assume that DLV is another clone of the many similar events
that are out there. If you're counting on something like a High
Desert Be-All, you will be disappointed.

One thing to note is that Diva Las Vegas is not centered around
any hotel. You may stay anywhere you wish. We suggest certain
hotels for those who want to be near other DLVers and for those
who want to know where previous DLV attendees have reported

Sahara Hotel update:

Mary Beth sends in the following on the Sahara, one of our
suggested hotels for DLV 2009:

+If you have not yet booked your hotel for DLV, hotels.com has
+the Sahara for DLV week starting at $21/weeknight $48/weekend
+for smoking rooms and $24/weeknight $51/weekend for non-smoking
+rooms.

+You probably won't do much better than that.

If there is a silver lining to this nasty economic cloud, it is
that hotel rates in Las Vegas have decreased significantly from
where they were last year. There are some real room-rate bargains
out there now.

Things to come:

Activity sign-up:

The next big milestone for those of you who have registered
will be activity sign-up.

This is where you tell us which of the many planned optional
activities you will be doing. This will begin on or about April
15th. this year.

Please look over our schedule, and be thinking of which of
the activities you find of interest, in anticipation of
activity sign-up.

Although many of our activities are on a "no sign-up, just show
up" basis, a number of them will require things such as a
sign-up, an advance commitment to attend, a headcount, perhaps
even a prepayment.

On or about April 15, everybody holding a validated registration
will receive a special e-mail which contains a URL to your
personalized activity sign-up screen.

This will allow you to sign up for those optional activities
that you find of interest.

In most cases, you can change your mind at any time up to the
activity sign-up cut-off.

For those activities that have limited capacity, in most cases
it will be first-signed, first-served. In some cases it may be
first-paid, first served.

Further details on activity sign-up will be posted as the
activity sign-up date approaches.

Large Final Mailing:

Just prior to DLV, all validated attendees will receive what
we call the Large Final Mailing.

Yes, this year we will be passing out a hardcopy summary
schedule and DLV activity map, but this will only contain
a fraction of the information that you will need to make the
most of DLV.

The Large Final Mailing will include such things as:

. "Bare Minimum" section as a "quick-start" guide.
. Your personalized final confirmation and itinerary.
. Final detailed schedule of activities.
. Behavior, dress and restroom guidelines.
. List of volunteer drivers and people who need rides.
. Late notices.
. Check-in instructions.
. Contact phone numbers.
. Big Sister Emergency Hotline number.
. Diva Las Vegas Photo Guidelines.
. Discounts and promotions. (Some good ones this year!)
. Link to detailed activity maps.
. Info on informal off-schedule Pre-DLV happenings.

Arriving and checking in:

You can check in at any DLV activity which is marked "Check-in
available" on the final detailed schedule. Although most of
the checking-in will be done at the Monday activities, check-in
will be available each day at the daily lunch and at several
other designated activities.

Don't worry, if the first activity you want to do does not
have check-in available, you will still be able to participate
as long as your name appears on the DLV roster. You may just
have to wait to get your name badge and such.
