This is being sent out mid-week due to the volume of material that has

Las Vegas this Friday:

By a twist of fate, I (Annie) find that I will be in Las Vegas on
business this Thursday and Friday. We have a group getting together for
dinner and drinks on Friday evening. If you would like to join us, send

the latest plans are. (C'mon you list-lurkers, don't be shy! :)

Airfare updates:

Northwest airlines has dropped fares from several markets to Las Vegas.
Example fares are $138 RT from Milwaukee and $158 from Omaha. Delta,
America West, and a few others are matching this fare.

Oh, and a heads-up. All 30 day in advance prices (air, hotel, etc.)
expire this week.

Slumber Party:

LeeAnna sends in these notes about the Wednesday evening slumber party:

Imperial Palace review:

+THE GOOD:

+1. Location, location, location. Walking distance to almost everything.
+Location on the center Strip, surrounded by Harrah's, Flamingo,
+Caesar's Palace and Mirage. Close to Bellagio, Bally's, Barbary
+Coast, Venetian, Paris Las Vegas and Treasure Island.

+2. Nice rooms for a reasonable price. We working class stiffs can
+actually afford to spend a week there. The room was adequate - I don't
+go to Vegas to stay in my room.

+3. Maid service was reliable, never disturbed us despite the odd hours
+we keep whenever we're in Vegas.

+4. You can find your friends in the casino in a few minutes because it
+is so small (a definite plus if there are several in your party)!

+5. Cheap beers at the satellite casino up front, on The Strip.

+6. They run Internet specials almost year-round.

+7. They have a sit down crap table.

+8. Slot tournament - you can easily win your entry fee back plus free
+T-shirt and buffet.

+9. Casino always buzzing day and night.

+10. Have never seen any kids in the casino even with the Car Museum
+upstairs.

+11. Great for Seniors - medical facilities on location. They have a
+public health clinic on the 8th Floor. You hope you never have to use
+it, but it gives you a lot of peace of mind knowing it's there if you
+need it.

+12. Slot club has been generous with the mail-in offers, even though we
+didn't play all that much there.

+13. Never #13 in Las Vegas.

+14. We were able to check in early even though the room wasn't ready.

+15. The Seahouse restaurant was excellent. The food, service, ambiance,
+and price were all terrific! Surprisingly good dining (non-buffet).
+We ate at both the Chinese and seafood restaurants. The Embers fine
+dining steakhouse restaurant was terrific.

+16. One word: BALCONY! Very rare in Las Vegas. Rooms have sliding glass
+doors that you can open to get fresh air.

+17. There were 5 bars around the main casino, never far to go for a
+drink if the waitresses aren't coming around as often as you'd like.

+18. The Antique car show is a must for any car enthusiast! My wife isn't
+even into cars and she enjoyed it! It's a great way to get a break
+from all the neon.

+19. Low minimums: $3 Craps, $3 Black Jack, and $5 Pai Gow.

+20. Cheapest room rates on the strip (at least, we couldn't find
+anything cheaper) during a peak season (like New Year's).

+21. The cocktail bar between the front desk and the casino, (sorry,
+can't remember the name) has a Mai-Tai that is the best I've ever had.
+Just don't drink many or you'll crawl to your room.

+22. Room service a bargain.

+23. Pool has overhead sprinklers to keep you moist!

+24. Legends In Concert show was very entertaining.

+25. Very loose hotel room casino rates readily available to slot club
+members. Visit them once every 18 months and you will stay on their
+Casino Rate list.

+26. Easy back route to parking lot.

+27. Drive through sportsbook.

+28. Nice view from the rooms fronting The Strip.

+29. Very good mail offers to slot club members, including two nights
+free rooms during the month of your birthday, free entry to birthday
+slot tournament, 200 points added to your slot club account, surprise
+birthday gift, two buffet meals and free dessert in any of their
+restaurants.

+30. Late night specials in the Tea House on the second floor (especially
+the ham steak & eggs).

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

+THE BAD:

+1. Very noisy casino.

+2. Can't figure out what their theme is. Hawaiian Luau + Far East
decor. Huh?

+3. Crowded pool.

+4. Line up for Legends in Concert show.

+5. Did not honor my request for a non-smoking room. Couldn't get them
+to change it either.

+6. Their rooms need a facelift, I think they have the same bedspreads
+since 1978. The rooms are dated and shopworn. This place needs an
+overhaul. My thought is, they've gotta be kidding, I'd rather stay at a
+Motel 6. THE ROOM SMELLED LIKE MUST - IT WAS DISGUSTING! Thin towels.

+7. Too few table games, can't find a seat some nights.

+8. Stinky casino restroom. Only one bathroom on the casino floor, all
+the way in the back (away from the cheap beer).

+9. Hotel employees out front on the Strip and in the back by the Arcade
+continually trying to hand you timeshare offers, or some other useless
+stuff. It should be noted that these people were EVERYWHERE, so this in
+not exclusive to the Imperial Palace. Word to the wise; if one of these
+people asks you how long you'll be in town say you're leaving that
+night.

+10. The entry to the Parking Garage gets flooded every time it rains in
+Las Vegas.

+11. Drinks are weak and bartenders are rude when comping for a roll of
+quarters.

+12. Pool hours - it has a small pool and it is not open very late in
+the day. The whole area is quite boring.

+13. Never #13 in Las Vegas.

+14. Hotel and casino starting to show age. No frills or glitz, can use
+major remodeling. Casino is kinda dingy and could use a face lift.

+15. Some public rooms (exercise room etc.) are hard to find.

+16. The Hawaiian Luau advertised as a seafood buffet only had fake
+crabmeat and shrimp. The show was lame.

+17. Bell Service was slow.

+18. Trying to find the restaurants on the fifth floor can be difficult.
+From your room you have to go to the ground floor and then back up to
+the fifth floor using an escalator.

+19. Not as flashy as some of it's neighbors and much smaller. Compared
+to everything else on The Strip, it looks like a dump.

+20. The buffet is absolutely terrible. I ate there once...I'll not do
+that again. The corned beef hash tasted like dog food. Lunch and Dinner
+menu are the same. Buffet is better suited for cattle than people.

+21. The slots seem tighter every time I go.

+22. Security used to check for keys upon going up on the elevator, no
+longer done.

+23. Noise from outside Harrah's is terrible at night. Don't take a room
+facing Harrah's. Our room was on the north side of the hotel right
+above and behind Harrah's new outdoor theater, feels like the party is
+in your room. Live bands outside the rooms make it too loud to sleep -
+went well past 3 a.m.

+24. The staff in the coffee shop downstairs are just about as rude as I
+have seen in any Las Vegas hotel.

+25. NOT ENOUGH ELEVATORS. Long lines and long waits at the elevators
+many times. Slowest elevators in Vegas-I could go downstairs faster in
+my wheelchair.

+26. You can't get bottles of beer (only little plastic cups) .

+27. Getting out of their parking garage--too many pedestrians cross
+that area of the Strip and they're hard to see from where you sit at
+the edge of the drive (I almost took a few of them out!)

+28. THE COCKTAIL WAITRESSES ONLY WAIT ON MEN - IGNORE US WOMEN!

+29. Finding your hotel room was like walking through a maze, confusing
+floor plan. extremely awkward lay-out, the most difficult entrance on
+The Strip.

+30. The seats at the slot machines and tables have to be the most
+uncomfortable in Nevada.

+About the Authors: Readers of this Newsletter were kind enough to let us
+know the good and the bad of the Las Vegas places they visited. I urge

We've always had DLV people stay at the IP since day one, and they have
always reported good service.

I agree with just about everything said here. One thing I might add is
that there is a smaller second buffet inside the Teahouse Coffee Shop.
While it's not haute cuisine by any means, it's quite edible, even
bordering on enjoyable sometimes. :) (I wonder how the reviewer knows
what dog food tastes like? :)

April 1 coincidentally landed on Sunday last year, and I couldn't
resist. For those who missed it, the subject of the weekly mailing read:
"Important Notice: DLV 2001 Cancelled!". The words "April Fool" clearly
appeared inside.

Actually, I'm braced for a possible payback this year. :)

Activities are all over town in various locations. There's no real "Main
Event" or any central location.

DLV is quite different from most of the other T* community events in
this respect.

Sahara rates:

Checking their web site, as of this day, hour, minute, and second, they
are (again) showing $109 per day for the weekend of May 3-4. I notice
that two weekends in April are now $129 per day.

If anybody did book at $119, I'm sure if you phone their reservations
department, they will adjust it.
