Welcome:

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year from the organizers
and volunteers of DLV. Hope your holiday season is a good one!

Welcome to those who are new. If there are any questions or concerns,
please let us know.

If you're new to DLV and want to attend next April, please take a
look at the "roadmap" of the things you'll need to do in order to
participate in DLV:

Other suggested reading includes the back mailing of this list:

Although this is still our "slow season", our volunteers have been
busy making the initial plans for the week. Many of our favorite
anchor activities (Limo Tour, Night Of The Soiled Doves) will be
back for 2008, plus some new and different ones. There will be
two large maximum-attendance gatherings, one on Monday evening
of DLV week and the other on Saturday.

We will publish the working schedule in these mailings beginning
in January.

Diva Las Vegas 2007 follow-up pages are now up. Big thanks to
all who sent in photos for this project. We have an excellent
collection this year!

Hotels for DLV 2008:

For Diva Las Vegas, you may stay wherever you wish. There's no
requirement to stay in any particular hotel. We do offer some
suggestions, for those who want to know which hotels our former
attendees have reported good experiences, and for those who want
to be where other DLV people are staying.

Ride sharing (at the riders' own risk, of course) will be
coordinated for those staying in our suggested hotels.

Further details about our suggested hotels appear at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2008/2008hotels.html

The suggested hotels for DLV 2008 are (in alphabetical order):

Alexis Park

The Alexis Park is an upper-midscale resort hotel located off-Strip
on Harmon Avenue, across the street from the Hard Rock and next
door to the St. Tropez, another of our suggested hotels. It
features a resort campus with multiple amenities. Alexis Park is
known as a discreet hideaway for celebrities who wish to maintain
a low profile when in Las Vegas. Alexis Park is non-gaming.

Imperial Palace

The Imperial Palace is a large midscale casino-hotel in one of the
best possible locations on the center Strip. The IP has been home
away from home for some our attendees each year since 1997! For
those without a vehicle, the Las Vegas Monorail has a station at
the Imperial Palace.

. . .

Palace Station

Palace Station is a midscale casino-hotel located west of the
Strip on Sahara Avenue. Palace Station offers "garden" rooms as
well as tower rooms for those who may be uncomfortable exiting
via a hotel lobby. Palace Station was the first of the many
"Station" casinos and has received quite a bit of publicity
lately. :)

Sahara

The Sahara is one of the classic legacy Las Vegas casino-hotels
on the north Strip. DLV attendees have used the Sahara each year
since 1999 and have consistently reported good service. The Las
Vegas Monorail has its northmost station at the Sahara. Many rooms
have been recently remodeled.

St. Tropez

The St. Tropez is an "all-suite" non-gaming resort hotel located
across the street from the Hard Rock and adjacent to the Alexis
Park, one of our other suggested hotels. St. Tropez is offering
a significant discount to DLV attendees who book early. See
notice below.

. . .

Stratosphere

The Stratosphere is a large casino-hotel on the far north Strip
which is famous for the iconic 1300' tower. DLV people have
played and stayed at the Stratosphere since 1998.

Things to come:

Our "slow season" will come to an end in January.

Shortly after the first of the year, re-registration will open
for returnees. Most of you who attended last between 2002 and 2007
will receive an express re-registration link via e-mail. Just a
few clicks and you're on your way!

Pre-registration for those on this mailing list will begin on or
around February 1. There is no charge to register. (Unlike many
other events, you don't pay for what you don't want to do.)

General registration for DLV 2008 will open on or around March
first. This really doesn't apply to you, the list members, since
you will be able to register prior to March.

Activity sign-up will begin on or around April 1. This is where
you tell us which of the optional activities you want to do.

About a week before DLV there will be a very important happening!

This is what we call the Large Final Mailing.

At most other TG events, when you check in, you will receive a
whole pile of papers, such as a schedule, maps, promotional items,
etc. This does not happen at DLV. All of this will come to you in
the Large Final Mailing, and you can print this out and take it
with you.

You will also receive your own personal "itinerary", listing the
activities you're signed up for and details on each one.

Further details about the goings-on will appear in these mailings
as they become relevant.

Special St. Tropez rates:

Nora has again negotiated a special DLV rate for the St Tropez, one
of our suggested hotels.

Special DLV rate is $79 per night for Monday thru Thursday of DLV week
and $99 for Friday and Saturday.

You must book your room by March 15 to qualify for this special rate.
Also, for this rate you must book directly with the St. Tropez, either
by phone or by e-mail. This rate is not available on the web, or from
travel agents. Please mention Diva Las Vegas when booking your room.
(Yes, they are aware of the nature of our group and promise us
excellent service.)

Rooms booked after March 15 will be at the normal rate, which is $139
on weekdays and $169 on weekends, subject to change, and subject to
availability.

For reservations, phone 800-666-5400
or e-mail reservations@sttropezlasvegas.com

Big thanks to Nora for arranging this! :)
