Welcome:

Welcome to those who just joined the list. We're seeing a record
number of list joins since the new year! Hope you can make it to
DLV in April!

We're less than three months from the big event now! Please don't
hesitate on making your travel and hotel arrangements. See hotel
details below.

The tone of some of the items in this mailing may appear to be
somewhat blunt, but there appear to be several items regarding
DLV that are confusing or misunderstood by several of those
of you who are new and recently have been writing in.

Hopefully the items in the mailing will clear things up.

If there are any points that aren't clear to you, please ask.

Anyone needing a Big Sister or having questions about the program
may contact me as well as those that would like to help those first
coming out please contact me.

All of you remember the frightening and most memorable experience
when you ventured out for the first time. Usually there was someone
who helped you and was there for you. Now you can return the favor
and help someone else.

Many close friendships have resulted since the Big Sister program
was started.

There are never too many volunteers . We need you all.

We've had a flurry of questions come in over the past couple weeks
and most of them are already covered in some detail and depth in
the Frequently Asked Questions list on our web site at the

This covers just about everything, from what DLV is all about,
registration, hotels, activities, transportation, dress, etc.

From the items coming in, there appear to be a few misconceptions
and misunderstandings circulating.

1. Please be sure you know what you're registering for. We're
not another Southern Comfort or Be-All. We're not based on the
model that most of the other TG events are. "Vacation, not a
convention" is the best way to describe it. We're also not
centered around a hotel. DLV is a very fun event, but it's
different from many of the other TG events you're likely
to knoe.

2. If you want to attend you will need to register, individually,
on the DLV web site. Registration for returnees is open now, see
back mailings. Registration for newcomers who are on this list
will open this coming week. See note and link below.

Tagging along with somebody else who is registered is not
allowed, sorry.

Joining this mailing list the Yahoo group will not register you.
Likewise, sending an "I will be there" e-mail will not register
you.

We've opened up newcomer registration (for members of this mailing
list) a few days early. If you're on this list (if you're reading
this by regular e-mail and the URL appears below) you can go
ahead and register as a newcomer if you wish.

Please be sure you understand what happens when you register.

SHORTLY AFTER YOU REGISTER, YOU SHOULD RECEIVE A VALIDATION E-MAIL.

IN THE EVENT YOU RECEIVE ABSOLUTELY NOTHING AFTER YOU REGISTER,
SOMETHING IS WRONG AND WE NEED TO KNOW ABOUT IT.

If you don't receive a validation e-mail, or if something is not
clear to you about it, e-mail dlv@geekbabe.com and explain the
circumstances. Problems with registration are almost always very
minor but you need to report them in order for us to do anything
about them. We typically see 2-3 of these cases each year and
they are usually very minor problems, but you do need to watch
for them and report them.

WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR VALIDATION E-MAIL, YOU WILL NEED TO READ
IT, AND YOU WILL NEED TO RESPOND TO IT AS IT ASKS YOU TO DO.

This lets us know that you are indeed the person registering,
that you understand what DLV is all about, and that e-mail
works properly both ways between DLV and you.

YES, YOU WILL NEED TO READ IT COMPLETELY! THIS IS VERY
IMPORTANT.

If you respond without reading it, it will be painfully obvious
that you have not read it. Please read it, it's good for you! :)

After your registration is validated, you will receive a
confirming e-mail with a direct link to your own personal
registration update screen. PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT
DELETE OR MISPLACE THAT E-MAIL!

Using the link enclosed, you can update, cancel, un-cancel,
request a Big Sister, volunteer to be a Big Sister, sign
up for roomate matching, etc.

Hotels for DLV 2008:

For Diva Las Vegas, you may stay wherever you wish. There's no
requirement to stay in any particular hotel. We do offer some
suggestions, for those who want to know which hotels our former
attendees have reported good experiences, and for those who want
to be where other DLV people are staying.

Ride sharing (at the riders' own risk, of course) will be
coordinated for those staying in our suggested hotels.

Alexis Park

The Alexis Park is an upper-midscale resort hotel located off-Strip
on Harmon Avenue, across the street from the Hard Rock and next
door to the St. Tropez, another of our suggested hotels. It
features a resort campus with multiple amenities. Alexis Park is
known as a discreet hideaway for celebrities who wish to maintain
a low profile when in Las Vegas. Alexis Park is non-gaming.

Imperial Palace

The Imperial Palace is a large midscale casino-hotel in one of the
best possible locations on the center Strip. The IP has been home
away from home for some our attendees each year since 1997! For
those without a vehicle, the Las Vegas Monorail has a station at
the Imperial Palace.

Palace Station

Palace Station is a midscale casino-hotel located west of the
Strip on Sahara Avenue. Palace Station offers "garden" rooms as
well as tower rooms for those who may be uncomfortable exiting
via a hotel lobby. Palace Station was the first of the many
"Station" casinos.

Sahara

The Sahara is one of the classic legacy Las Vegas casino-hotels
on the north Strip. DLV attendees have used the Sahara each year
since 1999 and have consistently reported good service. The Las
Vegas Monorail has its northmost station at the Sahara. Many rooms
have been recently remodeled.

St. Tropez

The St. Tropez is an "all-suite" non-gaming resort hotel located
across the street from the Hard Rock and adjacent to the Alexis
Park, one of our other suggested hotels. St. Tropez is offering
a significant discount to DLV attendees who book early. See

Stratosphere

The Stratosphere is a large casino-hotel on the far north Strip
which is famous for the iconic 1300' tower. DLV people have
played and stayed at the Stratosphere since 1998.

Special St. Tropez rates:

Nora has again negotiated a special DLV rate for the St Tropez, one
of our suggested hotels.

Special DLV rate is $79 per night for Monday thru Thursday of DLV week
and $99 for Friday and Saturday.

YOU MUST BOOK YOUR ROOM BY MARCH 15 TO QUALIFY FOR THIS SPECIAL RATE.

Also, for this rate you must book directly with the St. Tropez, either
by phone or by e-mail. This rate is not available on the web, or from
travel agents. Please mention Diva Las Vegas when booking your room.
(Yes, they are aware of the nature of our group and promise us
excellent service.)

Rooms booked after March 15 will be at the normal rate, which is $139
on weekdays and $169 on weekends, subject to change, and subject to
availability.
