Happy Holidays:
Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year, to you and
yours, from the organizers and volunteers of Diva Las Vegas!
Welcome to those who have just joined the mailing list. If
you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
This will be the last general DLV mailing for 2009.
Beginning in January, our general mailings will come out
every two weeks or so until the big event, which begins
April 18.
We hope to see all of you in Las Vegas at DLV 2010 in April.
Two areas of emphasis this coming year will be hospitality
for newcomers and personal improvement. Several of our
features and activities this year will be geared around
these two concepts.

Hotels:
(Please see note below regarding volunteer Hotel Hostesses
and daily hotel get-togethers.)
Our suggested hotels for Diva Las Vegas 2010 are, listed
in ascending order by approximate price range:
1. Sahara. ($)
This is a very large budget-priced hotel-casino complex
on the north Strip. The Sahara has been "home away from
home" for DLV attendees each year since the late 1990s.
Room rates at the Sahara are very reasonable, if booked
in advance. (Do not procrastinate! Rates are known to
skyrocket as the date closes in.)
The Sahara Buffet is very "ok", and there are several
other dining options on the property, including a 24
hour full-service coffee shop.
The adjoining Las Vegas Monorail offers convenient
transit to the center (9 minutes) and south (14 minutes)
Strip areas.
. . . . .
2. Imperial Palace. ($)
We've had DLV attendees stay at the Imperial Palace each
and every year throughout DLV's history!
The Imperial Palace is a large lower-midscale casino-hotel
in a close-to-ideal location on the center Strip. This is
within walking distance to several DLV activities. The Las
Vegas Monorail (adjacent) provides quick and convenient
access to several points along the Strip.
The Teahouse Coffee Shop is open 24 hours, reasonably
priced, and surprisingly good. Several other dining options
are available.
For those who do not wish to traverse a crowded hotel lobby,
the IP offers motel-style "Capri" rooms in addition to the
usual high-rise hotel tower rooms. These are often very
attractively priced and have an outside entrance.
The adjoining Carnaval Court offers entertainment and
attractions both day and night.
. . . . .
3. Harrah's. ($$)
This is the first year we've named Harrah's as one of our
suggested hotels, but we've had attendees stay at Harrah's
off and on over the years.
Harrah's is a large midscale casino-hotel right in the
heart of the center Strip. Harrah's is within walking
distance of several popular DLV activities, and the Las
Vegas Monorail (adjacent) provides quick and convenient
access to several points along the Strip.
The "Flavors" buffet has been a favorite of the DLV gang
for several years! Several other dining options, from
plain to fancy, are available at Harrah's.
As with the IP, the adjoining Carnaval Court offers
entertainment and attractions both day and night.
. . . . .
4. Paris. ($$$)
The Paris is a moderate-upscale casino-hotel located just
south of the Flamingo-Strip "Four Corners" intersection.
Paris is the first major casino-hotel in Las Vegas to
actively market to the GLBT community.
The Paris is within convenient walking distance of several
DLV activities, including such things as our Monday evening
Welcome Celebration, Wednesday dinner and Limo Tour, and
the Charles Bar during the wee hours of Thursday morning.
Paris has an excellent buffet, several other dining options,
large shopping area, and several lounges and entertainment
options.

These hotels are suggestions, not requirements. You may
stay anywhere you wish. We make these suggestions for
those who are unfamiliar with Las Vegas hotels and for
those who want to be near others who will be attending.
Detailed information on all of these hotels appears here:

Important highlights and updates for DLV 2010:
Hotel Hostess Program:
For DLV 2010, each of our suggested hotels (see above) will
have a volunteer DLV hostess. Your Hotel Hostess will be
sponsoring an informal local get-together daily during DLV,
and will be a convenient point-of-contact should you have
any questions, concerns, or issues regarding DLV.
Big thanks to Holly for coordinating the Hotel Hostess
Program!
Further information on Hotel Hostesses will appear in our
mailings after the new year.
. . . . .
Welcome Celebration:
It's far too early for all of the details, but plans are in
the works for an absolutely dynamite Welcome Celebration
on Monday of DLV week! This will be in a brand-new upscale
facility on the south Strip, a venue which you read about
in the celebrity tabloids!
Thanks go out to Suzane for being the primary coordinator
of the Welcome Celebration for DLV 2010!
Further information about this and other activities will be
announced as the date approaches.
. . . . .
Beginners' Open House:
On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of DLV week we have a very
special "Open House" geared primarily toward those who are
new, who do not have much public exposure, and may be a bit
shy about taking those very important first steps out.
This will be held in a private condominium and will be
hosted by a supportive GG who has been active with DLV
for several years.
Changing facilities will be available at the Beginner Open
House, and even if you're a non-beginner who just needs a
place to change, you will be welcome too!
For those who are a bit nervous, we're making arrangements
for a carpool and escort from the Monday Open House to the
Welcome Celebration. Yes, you're welcome to ride along even
if you're not new and nervous! :)
Thanks to Sarona for facilitating this.
. . . . .
Payment update:
Yes, we heard you!
We're making arrangements for a convenient method of paying
for most of the advance-payment DLV activities either prior
to or during the first days of DLV.
Details of this will be announced just prior to activity
sign-up time, in late March of 2010.
. . . . .
Ride sharing:
In the past we've tried to encourage ride sharing by
preparing lists of those who need rides and those who
have extra seats in their vehicles. This worked very
well during the early years of DLV, but as we've grown,
this has not scaled very well and has not worked well
over the past few years.
This year we will be encouraging those who are in need
of a ride to stay in one of our suggested hotels and use
the daily receptions to establish contact with those who
have extra room in their vehicles.
In addition, please feel free to use the Diva Las Vegas
Discussion Forum (http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvdisc/)
to establish driver/rider contact.
Disclaimer: Please accept a ride with another DLV attendee
only if you agree that it is entirely at your own risk,
and that you agree to hold nobody other than yourself
responsible should something unfortunate happen.

Things to come:
Here's a summary of the important things that will be
happening over the next few months as we head down the
road to DLV 2010.
. . . . .
The next big milestone is returnee re-registration.
Shortly after the first of the new year, most of you who
have attended DLV in the past will receive your DLV 2010
re-registration e-mail. This will allow very convenient
no-hassle re-registration for DLV 2010.
Be watching for this just after the new year!
. . . . .
On February 1, DLV 2010 registration opens for newcomers who
are on this mailing list. If you're reading this via e-mail,
this does include you.
. . . . .
On March 1, general DLV 2010 registration opens. Please note
that you must be registered to be admitted to DLV 2010
functions.
. . . . .
On or about March 28, activity sign-up begins. Those who
are registered will be sent a mailing with a clickable link
to a screen for all optional activities which require a
hoop-jump or a headcount. This is a one-stop-shop for all
of these.
. . . . .
On or about April 13, registration closes, activity sign-up
closes, Large Final Mailing is sent out.
. . . . .
April 18: DLV! :) (Be there or be L7!) :)
