Latest Diva Las Vegas updates:
Welcome to those who just joined our mailing list. If you're new,
please review the archives of the recent mailings, on line here:
viewforum.php?f=4
In particular, you will find the archives dated this year (2012)
of interest.
We're looking forward to seeing all of you in April!
. . . . .
This mailing is late. It was being held pending the outcome of
our volunteers' vote on the 2012 Welcome Celebration. See below.
. . . . .
Registration for DLV 2012 is open. Please use the links below to
register as a newcomer or as a returnee.
. . . . .
From this mailing forward, we'll be including the summary working
schedule in our mailings. See below. Please keep in mind that this
is a work in progress and is incomplete at this time and is subject
to change between now and April 21. Please do not make any plans
which are non-adjustable based on these preliminary schedules.
. . . . .
Latest numbers:
As of Saturday morning we have a total headcount of 131, which
puts us on track for a total turnout of about the same as we
had last year.

Monday Welcome Celebration:
Our DLV Volunteer Group has just voted to accept a proposal
for a new and very unique Welcome Celebration, centered around
downtown Las Vegas, on Monday of DLV week.
We'll begin the festivities with a tour of the Mob Museum in the
afternoon, followed by three options for Happy Hour and Dinner,
leading up to our big blow-out social.
We'll then have one of our 2012 Official Group Photo (yes, it
will really happen this year) followed by several late evening
entertainment options including Bowling, Karaoke, Drag show, video
and pinball gaming, and taking in the scene on the Fremont Street
Experience.
The Welcome Celebration Social is expected to be the largest single
gathering of DLV attendees in 2012. Please plan to be there!

Schedule notes and updates:
A few notes and updates, since our last mailing, on a few of the
many activities which will make up Diva Las Vegas 2012.
On Sunday morning we'll have a group attending services at the
Metropolitan Community Church. For those unfamiliar with MCC, it's
Christian, Protestant, Interdenominational, and strongly rejects the
"God the abusive Father" doctrine which has turned off many of our
community members to religion.
Tuesday will be our annual Diva Las Vegas Invitational Golf
tournament. Some of our attendees consider DLV to be mainly a
golf match surrounded by other activities.
Q: "So? How do I sign up for golf?"
A: See activity sign-up notes below.
Golfers of all backgrounds and skill levels are encouraged to
participate!
On Tuesday afternoon we'll feature a tour of the Neon Museum,
which was a major hit in 2011.
New for Wednesday will be our Volunteer Recognition Luncheon.
All volunteers and prospective volunteers are encouraged to
attend.
Friday will feature Pistol and Rifle Shooting with Gina in the
morning, "civilian" Makeover Sessions in the afternoon, and our
annual big-bang Farewell Celebration followed by Dancing in the
evening. Our Farewell Celebration will include a second "Official
Group Photo."
We'll also be doing some special things aimed at beginners and
newcomers, but the plans for those are not final at this time.
Summary schedule appears below. There's much much more in the works!

If there are any concerns or issues with registration, please let
us know.

Activity sign-up:
Once you register, your next big milestone on your journey to DLV
will be activity sign-up. This will begin on or about April 1.
Activity sign-up is where you tell us which of the many optional
activities you want to do.
Everything on the Diva Las Vegas schedule is optional. Many of the
activities require no sign-up or any other formality in order to
participate. "No sign-up, just show up." Our activity sign-up is
a one-stop-shop for all of the activities which will require some
kind of headcount, sign-up, pre-payment, etc.
On or about April 1, everyone registered for DLV will receive a
special e-mail containing a link to a personalized activity
sign-up screen. Read the notes on the screen, follow the on-screen
instructions, and you're all set!
In the meantime, please watch our schedule as it develops and start
thinking about which activities you find of interest.
We had requests to allow a "second choice" in cases where some
activities tend to fill up and go into a waiting list state.
Realistically, there are too many variables to allow this. Instead,
we're asking those who find themselves in a "no-win" situation
between a waiting list for their first choice and a second choice
requiring a sign-up to contact the two Coordinators of the two
activities in question and explain the circumstances.
Please watch for your activity sign-up mailing around April 1 and
when you get it, sign up. Don't procrastinate! Some activities
fill up fast!
. . . . .
The Large Final Mailing:
This will be sent out to registered attendees during the week
prior to DLV.
SIGNIFICANT CHANGE THIS YEAR!
This year the Large Final Mailing will consist mostly of links
to the material on the web. Among other things, this will include:
* The Bare Minimum - Quick Start Guide.
* Late Notices - Changes - Updates
* Maps And Schedules - Several options this year.
* Contact Information - Local phone numbers.
* Getting there and getting around (New for 2012)
* Photography information and Guidelines
* What to do in case of trouble
Please plan to read this completely and carefully, as it covers
just about everything that will happen during DLV week.
One important thing to remember is that when you arrive and
check in for DLV, YOU WILL RECEIVE NO PRINTED
MATTER OF ANY KIND.
You will want to print out such things as at least one version
of the schedule and the maps if you need them.
You will also receive your personalized "itinerary", a summary
of your sign-up activities and other info.
. . . . .
Arriving and checking in:
When you arrive in Las Vegas, you can check in for Diva Las Vegas
at any activity marked "Check-in available" on the final schedule.
Unlike most other events, we don't have a central "office" or
check-in desk. Check-in is done on-the-fly at several activities
during the week.
If check-in is not available at the first activity you want to
attend, don't worry. You'll be admitted as long as you appear on
the roster. You may just have to wait for your name badge and
such.
Before you check in or attend your first activity, if you have any
concerns and want to meet with one of our volunteers before you
join the group, just let us know and we'll make it happen.
. . . . .
Local transportation at Diva Las Vegas:
Unlike most other events, Diva Las Vegas is not centered around
a hotel. Our activities occur all over the Las Vegas area. Local
transportation of some kind will be needed.
We no longer have an organized ride share program, but we do
encourage those who will be driving to offer their empty seats
to others, at the rider's own risk, of course. Likewise we
encourage those who will be in need of local transportation to
stay in one of our suggested hotels in order to be near those who
will be driving and have available seats.
(See: http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2012hotels.html)
If you'll be needing local transportation, or if you'll have some
extra seats in your vehicle, you can contact others who need a
ride or have seats to share by posting a brief note in the DLV
Discussion forum shortly before the event. This is on line here:
viewforum.php?f=2
Please be sure to state where you'll be staying and give your
contact information.
More local transportation information such as taxi (yes, it's very
"safe" even for beginners), Monorail, etc., will appear in the
"Getting There and Getting Around" section of the Large Final
Mailing.
