Getting closer and closer:

Wow, I think we set a record this past week on the number of people who
joined this list! Welcome, everybody! Hope you can make it this May. If
there are any questions or concerns, please let us know.

As of this time all correspondence appears to be caught up. If you sent
in anything that required a response and did not receive a reply, please
resend. As you know, e-mail (and humans) are not perfect. :)

Registrations continue to come in. We're still on target for a total
turnout of around 110 or slightly higher.

Thanks to all for understanding and cooperating with the validation
procedure.

There are still a couple validations outstanding. Please be sure to
respond as indicated to your validation e-mail. Your cooperation is
appreciated.

Rates remain reasonable at most of our suggested hotels over the DLV
dates -- for now. Don't procrastinate! Rates for the weekend before DLV
(Apr 30 - May 2) have recently increased at the Sahara and San Remo and
the Imperial Palace is now showing sold out for the weekend before DLV.

Air fare is still quite reasonable from most major domestic airports,
but will increase as the date approaches.

As an aside, late news from Las Vegas is that the opening of the Strip
Monorail has been delayed until "this summer" sometime. I don't know if
this will affect anybody's plans or not, but I thought I would pass it
on.

Big Sisters:

First of all, thanks to those who recently volunteered to be Big
Sisters! Your efforts will assure that everybody gets the most out of
DLV 2004.

As many of you know, our registration has been very heavy, and due to
the sharp increase in requests for Big Sisters, we're once again putting
out a call for Big Sister volunteers, so we don't have to double up on
our matching.

If you've attended DLV in the past and would like to help others follow
in your footsteps, please consider volunteering. Just visit the URL:

Our Big Sister Coordinators will begin the matching process around the
first of April, which is coming up quickly.

Friday evening activities:

Each of our general mailings will feature one of our activities in
depth.

This week you get not one, but three at once, our Friday dinner at
Carluccio's, our Annual Mixer, which happens right after our dinner
at Carluccio's, and Dance Night, which follows the Annual Mixer.

Carluccio's Tivoli Gardens is a very classy (but not stuffy) Italian
restaurant located in the same complex as the Liberace Museum. Liberace,
himself, was the original proprietor of this restaurant.

We will begin with happy hour at 5:00pm on Friday, followed by dinner at
6:00pm. Several entree selections will be available at a fixed price
which includes everything but alcohol.

Our dinner at Carluccio's last year was our highest-rated meal activity
for DLV 2003, placing 4.75 (out of 5) for enjoyment/satisfaction and
4.76 (out of 5) for comfort.

The only complaint I heard about Carluccio's was why we waited until
2003 to use them for a DLV dinner! :)

Big thanks to Leah for turning us on to Carluccio's and for coordinating
our dinners there both last year and this year.

Following dinner, we will adjourn to the Goodtimes Lounge, which is a
leisurely stroll away, right across the parking lot, for our Annual
Mixer.

Although you will never see all DLV attendees in any one place at any
one time, the Annual Mixer is where we see the most DLV people assembled
all at once.

The very first DLV activity ever, back in 1997, was an informal
get-together at the Goodtimes Lounge. This has been repeated each year
since, and has become what we call our Annual Mixer.

But wait! There's more!

Our "Official" (if there is such a thing) group photograph will be taken
about 9:30pm during our Annual Mixer. Posing for this is optional, and
hi-res images will be made available at no charge promptly.

Following our Annual Mixer, we will begin our annual Dance Night at
Gipsy, one of the more popular dance clubs in the Las Vegas area.

Q&A -- roommate matching -- gallery:

Multiple people wrote in saying they could not access the roommate
sign-up "page" or "screen", and that it gave a very strange display.

There's really no page or screen for roommate matching.

The address given, roommate@geekbabe.com, which has now been clarified
in our reminder section below, is not a web page. It's an e-mail
address.

You need to send e-mail to the address roommate@geekbabe.com to request
roommate matching. Yes, some mail clients that some of you may use do
display it as a clickable link but do not recognize it as an e-mail
address. Some do.

General rule of thumb is that if it contains the "at sign" "@" it's not
a web address but an e-mail address. (Yes, techies, I know, I know,
there are exceptions to this rule.) :)

And, btw, those strange links you may have seen are various robot traps,
spam bait, and other things that don't lead to any meaningful content.

Bottom line, email to roommate@geekbabe.com to request roommate
matching.

Diane will start contacting potential roommates in early April.

If you have any concern about your registration status, just write in,
send e-mail to dlv@geekbabe.com and we will check and get back to you.

When you fill out the registration screen, you will (or should) very
shortly get a validation e-mail. If you don't get this, something is
wrong, and in this case you should write to dlv@geekbabe.com and explain
the circumstances.

Likewise, when you send in the validation response, you should also get
a note that states your registration is validated. If you don't get
this, something is wrong, so please let us know.

Our suggested hotels are just that, suggestions. There are no rooms held
for DLV and no negotiated rates.

As of this minute and second, the Sahara appears to have the cheapest
rates for the DLV dates at $42/$74 for weekday/weekend. Imperial Palace
and San Remo are slightly higher.

There's no "main hall", we're a vacation, not a convention. :) :)
