Welcome:

We've had several new registrations and quite a few new mailing list
joins since the last mailing. Welcome! If you have any questions or
concerns, please let us know. If you already sent in a question, see
the Q&A section below.

Again, all correspondence appears to be caught up at this time. If you
sent in a question and didn't get a response and don't see an answer
below, please resend, as e-mail is not a perfect medium.

Big thing coming up is the optional activity sign-up. See notice below.

For those who have just registered, the one thing that you should be
sure to do without hesitation is make your travel and hotel reservations
(if necessary) before prices rise any more. Several airlines have
announced fare increases this past week, but Southwest Airlines is still
showing $99 each way on some flights to/from most major airports. Room
rates at most of our suggested hotels are still reasonable, with San
Remo rates starting to creep upward.

For those of you who have not yet registered, this is the last call to
register in order to be included in the first round of activity
sign-ups. Some of our optional activities tend to fill up fast. One in
particular this year, see below, is expected to fill up very rapidly.

Activity sign-up:

This coming Thursday, April 1, we will begin our DLV 2004 activity
sign-up process.

On Thursday, everybody who holds a validated registration for DLV 2004
will receive (or should receive) a special e-mail with a clickable link
to their own personal activity sign-up screen.

IMPORTANT: If you have a validated registration and do not receive your
activity sign-up e-mail by this coming Friday, something is wrong, and
if this is the case, please report it via email to: dlv@geekbabe.com as
soon as possible.

The activity sign-up process should only take a minute or so. Just check
the activities that you (and your SO, if applicable) want to do and hit
the SUBMIT button.

You may change your mind at any time by filling out the screen again.

For those of you who originally registered as an individual, but will
have a SO coming with you, please update your registration to include
your SO prior to this Thursday so you will get the correct activity
screen. See link below.

If you need to review details of some of these activities, links to
the mailings which include the activity features appear below in the
reminders section.

Just prior to DLV, as part of what we call the Large Final Mailing, you
will receive your activity selections in the form of a personal
itinerary.

Ginger is thirsty:

Congratulations to Ginger, as winner of the DLV 2004 Ms Free Drink
pageant.

For those who don't know what this refers to, re-read last weeks mailing
carefully. :)

and DLV.

Night of the Soiled Doves update:

First of all, if you're not familiar with this activity, a summary can
be found in the archives of this mailing list at the URL:

It's become apparent that the demand for the special side trip, happy
hour, and photo op with the Night of the Soiled Doves will far exceed
the capacity of the facility.

Therefore, to be sure everybody who wants to go on the side trip has a
fair and equitable chance of going, we've established the following
procedure:

Admission to the happy hour and photo op will be strictly limited to
those who possess a special "token" which will be distributed as
follows:

1. Tokens will be distributed to those whose names are the first 36 on
the sign-up list, in exchange for a modest donation to the gratuity
pool, at any Sunday evening or Monday DLV activity. Those who will not
arrive until Tuesday may obtain their token by mail. If this is the
case for you, e-mail dlv@geekbabe.com for instructions on how to obtain
your token.

2. Any tokens unclaimed as of Tuesday morning will be considered "up for
grabs" and will be distributed to the waiting list on a first-come
first-served basis, in exchange for a modest donation to the gratuity
pool, of course.

3. In order to encourage SO's to attend this activity, bona-fide SO's
(defined as a spouse or equivalent domestic partner) will not be counted
against the capacity limit.

Possession of the "token" reserves you a space for the side trip, happy
hour, and photo op, with one caveat: You MUST be at the rendezvous point
at the departure time, which is 6:00pm sharp. We will not wait for
stragglers. Those not present on time will have their spaces given to
anybody on site who happens to be waiting.

Deadlines and cutoffs:

Wednesday, March 31 is the deadline for registration for those who wish
to be included in the first round of activity sign-up which will begin
on April 1. Registrations must be correctly validated by March 31 to be
included in the first activity sign-up mailing.

Monday, April 5 is the deadline for pre-payment for discount tickets for
preferred seating (all seating options) for the 6:00pm performance of
"V", on Thursday, May 6. Payment must be RECEIVED by April 5. E-mail
dlv@geekbabe.com for payment instructions. THIS NOTICE SUPERCEDES A
PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED DEADLINE.

Wednesday, April 21 is the deadline for pre-payment (discount rate) for
the Lake Mead Boat Tour. Payment must be RECEIVED by April 21. Write
dlv@geekbabe.com for payment instructions.

Tuesday, April 27 is the deadline for payment for golf. See golf list
for payment instructions.

Wednesday, April 28, 2359 CDT is the deadline for DLV 2004 registration.
This is also the deadline for all activity sign-ups and changes.

Tuesday, May 4, is the deadline for payment for Thursday's Big Show Pity
Party. Payment may be made at any major DLV activity Tuesday or before.

Shopping expedition:

Each general mailing will feature one DLV 2004 activity in depth. Today
we feature Wednesday afternoon's Shopping Expedition.

This year we will visit Las Vegas Premium Outlets, which is a new mall
(it was under construction during last DLV) located just southwest of
the downtown Las Vegas area.

Shops in the mall include (this is just a sampling of the 120-some that
are there) Ann Taylor, Banana Republic, Casual Corner, Dolce & Gabbana,
Dress Barn, Guess, Jones New York, L'eggs-Hanes-Bali-Playtex, Limited
Editions for Her, Liz Claiborne, and, of course, Michelle's fave, the
Maidenform Factory Outlet.

Also there are countless shoe stores, several accessory shops, and the
usual collection of variety stores and kiosks.

Yes, there's a food court with the predictable ubiquity and some
unpredictable esoterica. :)

We'll meet at the rendezvous point (location and explicit directions
sent in the Large Final Mailing) on Wednesday at 2:00 and carpool.

Dress: This is a mainstream activity. Mainstream dress and behavior will
be expected. Casual to very casual is what is customarily worn to malls
of this type. Comfortable shoes are very strongly suggested, as you will
be walking a moderate distance. If you plan to be trying things on, wear
a two-piece outfit with a top that comes off easily. Be sure to follow
restroom guidelines very carefully if you plan to use public restrooms
or fitting rooms.

Cost: Depends on what you buy? :) For those not driving, a modest
contribution to your driver's gas fund will be appreciated.

Questions and answers:

Prepayment gets you the discount price and guarantees a spot for you.

>Can I decide to go at the last minute and pay a higher rate?

Yes, if the cruise is not sold out. You kind of take your chances. On a
daytime weekday cruise, my hunch is that it will not be sold out, but it
would be best to phone the day of the cruise before departing, since I
would hate to see you sitting at the launch site while the others sail.

>Also -- do you know what time this activity will end? What time would
>we return to LV?

The cruise is scheduled to end at 1:30pm. You should be back in LV by
2:30 or so, in time to get ready for the Night of the Soiled Doves.

>Is Lake Mead far from LV?

It's about a 35 mile drive from the Strip area. It takes about 45
minutes to get there and get back assuming no traffic problems.

the original dates.

Sunday and Monday now appears to be quite solid.

Still much too early for anything of an accurate forecast, but for the
first part of May it's usually sunny, dry, warm, with highs in the low
to mid 80's and lows in the high 50's or low 60's.

Last year during DLV the temperature was a bit below average, so if you
attended last year, you can expect it to be somewhat warmer this year.

OOPS! Thanks to those who reported that the instructions for submitting
photos to the DLV People Gallery were missing. I now remember that these
were removed a year or so ago after we started getting submissions from
those who were clearly not associated with DLV.

Anyway, to get pictured in the gallery, send anywhere between 1 and 5 or
so photos of yourself via e-mail to annie@annie.net using any of the
common file attach methods. Do not send these to the DLV list address,
this will not work. Please have one of these be a clear face shot if
possible, and of course, no "adult" theme poses, please.
