This is an abbreviated mailing, containing mostly a few

Heads up -- St. Tropez discount rate:

The discount rate for DLV attendees at the St. Tropez Hotel
expires next Saturday, March 15!

The special DLV rate is $79 (plus taxes and nuisance fees,
of course) on weekdays and $99 on weekends.

To book your room, either phone the St. Tropez directly at
800-666-5400 or e-mail them at reservations@sttropezlasvegas.com

You must state that you are a DLV 2008 participant in order
to get this rate. Yes, they know all about our group, so there
is no reason to be shy about it. :)

To get the special rates, you must book directly with the
hotel. These rates are not available on the web or through
travel agents.

Air Tours:

We need some feedback on this next item before we finalize it.

Denise ("Densie", of Galiano [sic] fame), a long-time DLVer,
is willing to do a private air tour of Grand Canyon, for DLV
attendees, but if and only if there is a sincere interest and
demand for it.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that this will cost real money! It will cost
real money for Densie to fly the plane to Las Vegas, and it
will cost real money for fuel for the tour itself. This is
why a firm commitment is needed before she commits to doing
this.

This will not be a "ride for hire", but will be offered
to you with the understanding that costs will be shared
among all participating. This is estimated to be about
US$50 per person, which is considerably cheaper than the
many such tours offered by various agencies in Las Vegas.

The day and time for this, should it happen, has not been
set. It will be set jointly by the interested parties. It
will, however, most likely be in the morning of one of the
DLV weekdays.

There is a capacity limit. The plane can hold 4 at most,
that's 3 plus the pilot.

Activities and scheduling:

Over the past week or so there has been a flurry of all kinds
of activity suggestions and proposals.

We would like to encourage those of you who have ideas for
things that DLVers would like to do to get them on the table
as soon as possible.

One thing is very important. Time is getting close. If you
are going to propose or plan something, it needs to happen
now.

Before an activity is planned or announced, either an activity
which you propose for an addition to the "official" DLV schedule,
or one that you will do independently and announce to the DLV
audience, we need to be sure it will "fit" in the overall scheme
of things at DLV.

Please coordinate all efforts toward planning either activities
that will be on the schedule, or independent activities that
will be announced to the public with our DLV Organizers' Group.

Just send in an e-mail describing your proposed activity
to: dlvorg@geekbabe.com

A few notes to help you plan things:

1. The more details the better! Let us know all about what
you have in mind, where it will happen, when it will happen.

2. It needs to fit in the DLV schedule. You will get a much
better turnout if it doesn't go up against the larger and
more popular activities. Most afternoons except for Wednesday
of DLV week will be good for smaller activities. Wednesday
or Friday evening will be good for additional smaller
evening activities.

3. We will not schedule or announce anything else on Monday
or Saturday evenings prior to about 9:30pm. These timeslots
are reserved for our two big maximum-attendance gatherings,
and we want to do all we can to encourage everybody to
attend.

4. Do not procrastinate! DLV is only 6 weeks away! If it's
going to happen, plans need to start now.
