Welcome:

Welcome to those who just joined the list. Unfortunately, the next
DLV is 11 months away. If you're looking for something sooner,
there's Pinkfest in October. See notice below.

Lacking any more "you forgot me" notes, the final headcount for
Diva Las Vegas 2008 sits at 174! This is by far our largest
turnout ever. Thanks again to all for making DLV 2008 the largest
and most successful DLV to date!

Last call for survey:

Our DLV 2008 Attendee Survey will remain on line until Saturday,
May 31.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2008survey.html

If you attended DLV 2008 and haven't taken the survey yet, please
click on the link immediately above and do so.

We're asking all to please take this, including SOs, younger
attendees, older attendees, locals, everyone!

If you have already taken this survey and wish to make additional
written comments or suggestions, just go back to the survey page
(link above) and enter your comments, leaving all checkboxes
unchecked, and then hit the SUBMIT button. Additional or multiple
comment-only survey responses are always welcome.

Particularly helpful would be comments if you had any problems,
felt uncomfortable in your hotel, had difficulty contacting the
group, etc.

Thanks to all who have already taken this survey. The data we
get will be particularly valuable for summarizing this year's
event and planning for events to come.

The preliminary survey report will be posted in the DLV Discussion
Forum shortly after the first of June.

Call For Volunteers continues:

During DLV, a number of you asked if there was anything you
could do to help out.

Yes, there is, and now is the time to say so! :)

Planning and organization of DLV is done mostly on line via
e-mail. It's interactive and participatory. Volunteers form
what we call the DLVORG group.

The 2009 incarnation of DLVORG will become active shortly
after the first of June.

DLVORG people participate at the decision-making level, the
organizing and planning level, and at the nuts-and-bolts level.

The DLVORG group has one mission and one mission only, and that
is to plan the activities that make up what we call Diva Las
Vegas.

All of our major activities were "adopted" by one or more of our
volunteers, who jumped through the necessary hoops to make them
happen.

All that fun you had at DLV, on the limo tour, at golf, at the
shows, the high tea, etc., was the result of our volunteers
stepping forward and volunteering to make those things happen.

Most of the real "work" involves planning activities and making
them happen. (And I say "work" in quotes, because it can actually
be a lot of fun!)

Joining the DLVORG group is not intended to be a status symbol.
We're all peers, both organizers and participants. There's no
class structure or pecking order. Hey, we're planning a vacation,
not building an empire!

If you're sincere about wanting to do your part to make a great
thing even better, to give back what DLV has given to you, and
help to run an event that has literally changed lives, please
step forward!

I would also encourage those who are "newly out" to consider
volunteering. We need the perspective of those who are new to
public exposure when planning DLV. Each year since 1997, DLV
has given some of our people their first public experience.
We do value the input and support of those who are new, as
we do the input from those who have been in public for years.

To volunteer, simply send a brief e-mail message to
dlvorg@geekbabe.com and state you wish to volunteer. (Or, just
reply to this mailing and state that you wish to volunteer.)

Please include a sentence or two stating how you are most
interested in helping out. Anything general or specific ("I
wanna plan a sky-diving party.", or "I'll help any way I can.")
is perfectly fine. Anything from one sentence to a book length
manuscript will be ok. :)

We're not asking for any kind of a major time or effort
commitment on your part. All we ask is that each volunteer
organize, or assist with one activity. That's it.

Yes, it's fine to conditionally volunteer. "I'll help out but
I don't know if I can attend next year ..." is fine. Likewise
is something like "I'll plan the High Tea if nobody else wants
to do it."

If you're a bit shy, that's fine. We'll find something for you
where you don't have to go cold-calling vendors or anything
like that.

Vendor ratings and comments:

If you liked something, please let us know. Likewise, if you got
bad service, let others know as well.

We maintain what we call our "Big List" of vendors and firms which
are of interest to the TG community. This is on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/vendors/

Most of the vendors and facilities we used for DLV 2008 are listed
here, and it's easy to add your ratings and comments for any of
them. We would appreciate it if you would take a few minutes
and rate any which you patronized.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Call For Photos:

Thanks to those who have sent in their photos, it's obvious that
we will have an impressive collection of the memories of DLV 2008!

All photos which have been submitted as of Friday, May 23, are
now on line for your review and all removal requests have been
processed.

There are many more photos on the way.

The link to the photo staging area has been sent to all we have
on record as attending. If you attended DLV 2008 and have not
received this, please let us know.

The Call For Photos will continue for about another month.

Here are the methods you can use to send them in, listed most
easy to most difficult in the effort usually required to send.

1. E-mail, file attach using any sane method. The file attach
functions of Hotmail/Yahoo/Gmail all work fine. You may send
directly to either dlv@geekbabe.com or annie@annie.net

You may attach one image per e-mail, or many images per e-mail,
whatever works best for you. There are no "mailbox size limits"
on these accounts, so send away.

2. FTP. Please write in for the server/login/password information.

3. CD/DVD or floppy via snailmail (postal mail).

If you can't use 1 or 2 above, and need to send a CD/DVD, please
write in for the postal mail address. The CDs or floppies will
be returned if you want

4. Hardcopy prints via snailmail. Again, write in for the
postal mail address. Prints will be scanned and then returned.
Standard 4" x 6" mini-lab prints work very well for this and
reproduce very well on the web.

5. Links to a NORMAL (repeat NORMAL) web site with the images.
By "normal" we mean something other than most "Photo Sharing"
sites. These are intentionally designed to make it difficult
to get clean quality copies of multiple images. Flickr is a
pain to use for this, and the Yahoo Groups photos are no
longer available on line in full resolution.

If you want to ask what's easiest for us, 1 and 2 (e-mail or)
FTP are about as easy as each other and are preferred over
the other methods.

3 and 4 (CD/DVD, floppy, or prints) via postal mail are next
in terms of effort required to process. Prints always work,
and it's really no problem to scan them, since I have access
to a large scanner which will do several of them in each
scan.

Downloading from the web is not preferred, but will work
assuming the site does not use any strange methods to display
the full-resolution images. Most of the photo sharing sites
are intentionally landmined to prevent mass downloading
using scripts.

Thanks again to all who have sent in photos! :)

Pinkfest:

Can't wait for DLV 2009?

Think Pink!

Pinkfest, another "Vacation Not a Convention" happens each October
in Chicago.

Proposed dates for Pinkfest 2008 are Thursday, October 23 thru
Sunday, October 26. The floor is now open for comments on these
dates, either on the Pinkfest mailing list or the Pinkfest Yahoo
group.

Although Pinkfest is independent from DLV, it grew from the same
roots, and yes, if you attend Pinkfest you'll see some familiar
faces. I know that we had a number of Pinkfest people with us
this year at DLV.

Pinkfest appears on the web at:

http://www.pinkmyst.com/pinkfest/

To join the Pinkfest mailing list (discreet and spam-free), just
send e-mail to: pinkfest@pinkmyst.com and say you want to be
added to the list.

There's also the Pinkfest Yahoo group, which mirrors the content
of the Pinkfest mailing list. It's on the web at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pinkfest/

(You must be a Yahoo member and logged in to access this group.)

The content is exactly the same on the mailing list and the Yahoo
group, kind of like the DLV Discussion Forum. The Yahoo group was
added for those who prefer the Yahoo interface.
