Welcome:

Welcome to those who just joined the list. If you have any
questions or concerns, please let us know.

If you're new, please be sure to read the past two general
mailings, now archived on the web, as these contain a lot
of very important information about DLV 2010:

http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlv10arc/0004.html
http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlv10arc/0005.html

Newcomer registration (for those on our mailing list) is
now open. See details below.
. . . . .

We're now less than three months out from the big event!

Plans are proceeding on target for DLV 2010. We have a very
exciting schedule of activities, a mixture of those new
and different, some proven favorites, and some fresh twists
to some of our expected recurring activities.
. . . . .

Thanks to all who have volunteered to be Big Sisters.

Our Big Sister Program is one of DLV's success stories
and has helped many of our sisters take those first very
important steps out!

If you're new and maybe a bit uncertain, feel free to ask
for a Big Sister to help you. You can sign up for a Big
Sister on the web when you register.

If you're a returnee and want to help someone else take
those first steps, please consider volunteering to be a
Big Sister. You can do this on the web when you register
or go back to the registration screen and fill out a
brief Big Sister questionnaire.
. . . . .

Latest numbers:

All signs are pointing to a record turnout this April!

As of this date, we have 108 validated attendees signed up
including 17 SOs.

This is the first year we have broken 100 prior to the
opening of newcomer registration!

Other key indicators such as web site hits, mailing list
joins, etc., show a very high level of interest this year.

We'll be posting updated sign-up numbers and headcount
projections as the big date approaches.

Newcomer registration:

Registration for newcomers who are members of this mailing
list is now open. You may now register for DLV 2010 on the
web at:

{link removed on web archive copy}

Registration is quick and simple, and, of course, free!
. . . . .

Two very important but often overlooked notes about newcomer
registration:

1. When you register, shortly afterward you will receive
a validation e-mail. This usually comes very quickly.

In the event you receive absolutely nothing via e-mail after
you register, something is wrong and we need to know about
it! If your validation e-mail does not appear in your inbox
within 24 hours (worst case) after you register, please
e-mail us and explain the circumstances.

2. You will need to respond AS DIRECTED to the validation
e-mail. This assures that you have read it, understand a
few things, and that e-mail works both ways between you
and us.
. . . . .

Important: If you will be needing local transportation:

It is strongly suggested that those who will be needing
a ride to DLV activities stay in one of our suggested
hotels and use the daily get-together sessions to make
contact for ride sharing. To be sure you receive the
information about hotel get-togethers, be sure you
indicate the hotel in which you are staying when you
register.

Information on our suggested hotels appears here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2010/2010hotels.html
. . . . .

One other important note about registration: Please do not
procrastinate! Those who register early will have an
advantage at activity sign-up time. Due to our anticipated
crowd, we expect several of our more popular activities to
fill up and go into a waiting list state quickly. Those
who register sooner will get their activity sign-up mailings
sooner when activity sign-up time starts in early April.

Final evening and recent survey:

Thanks to all who took our survey regarding the final evening
of DLV 2010.

This past week, our ORG group voted to not go with the proposed
activity and pursue other options, which are currently being
discussed.

The major concern was the price point of the proposed activity,
and the fact that the cost would exclude and discourage a
number of our attendees, and not attract the size of crowd we
want for our final evening.

If anyone wants to review the comments, they have been moved
to the Discussion Forum Archive, on the web at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/discold/

Details of the plans for our final evening will appear in a
near-future mailing.

Schedule notes:

We'll begin posting the working schedule in 1-2 weeks as
soon as some key items are solid.

Here are a few highlights for those looking ahead.

Yes, we'll have things happening on Sunday, beginning,
literally, at the stroke of midnight! :) Sunday will
have a full schedule of mostly smaller social, and
participatory activities.

Our first big get-together, our Welcome Celebration, will
happen on Monday evening of DLV week. This will be the
largest gathering of our people for DLV 2010 and will be
a truly remarkable activity.

Tuesday will feature the Diva Las Vegas Invitational, which
is on record as the world's first recurring TG golf match.
Golfers of all backgrounds and skill levels are welcome!

Tuesday evening will be our multi-track Eating Out Night
followed by Theater Night with both reasonably-priced and
high-end shows and other activities.

The feature activity for Wednesday evening will be our
Limousine Tour with one or more alternate-track activities
as well.

Thursday will be our ever-popular Night Of The Soiled Doves
with at least one alternate-track activity.

Friday will be our ending get-together, the details of which
will be announced shortly.

Of special note for DLV 2010 will be our daily informal
get-togethers in our suggested hotels, plus our special
Beginner Open House on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

Recurring activities will be our daily lunch, happy hours,
late evening dancing, "Art Tour" options, and others.

Room rate update:

Diva Las Vegas is not centered around a particular hotel.

We suggest a few hotels for those who want to know where
DLVers had good experiences in the past, and for those
who wish to be near the others.

Here are the current room rates for our suggested hotels,
listed as weekday / weekend:

Harrah's: $60 / $120
Imperial Palace: $45 / $95 (Capri rooms start at $30!)
Paris: $130 (Sun-Tue) $90 (Wed-Thu) / $190
Sahara: $41 / $93

These are web rates, checked over the last few days, and
subject to change at very short notice.

Further information about our suggested hotels for DLV
2010 is available here:

. . . . .

Special note for DLV 2010:

Each of our suggested hotels will have an on-site DLV host
or hostess who will serve as a DLV contact person and will
be coordinating daily informal get-togethers at each of
our suggested hotels.

It is strongly suggested that those who will be needing
a ride to DLV activities stay in one of our suggested
hotels and use the daily get-together sessions to make
contact for ride sharing.
