Relax the rules??

No way! The rules are in place for one reason. They are there to
ensure everyone has fun, but not at the expense of others or of the
DLV group as a whole.

All the organizers throughout the years have worked too hard to build
up our group's reputation to have someone with disregard toward the
rules flush it down the toilet. I'm sorry that a someone chose to make
others uncomfortable with their outfit in at a mainstream event, and
thus forced someone in DLV to say something.

Even though I was not there, I think the situation was handled
appropriately before SECURITY got involved. For sure that would have
been bad for the whole group. Thank you Gina for speaking up. I for
one, enjoy attending DLV and as long as brave girls like Gina speak
out, DLV will be there for us to enjoy for a long time.

Thanks!

Relax the rules??

Dear Friends,

I truly believe there is a time and place for everything. I have
to admit, I am not familiar with dressing in the manner of the
Wildside, as I have never done that. I'm not against it, but I
am different. I have put on a fair number of events during DLV
over time. I have always asked people who have attended to be
mindful of the dress guidelines for my events. Fortunately I've
never had an issue with that on my watch.

I wonder why some would choose to disrespect the guidelines at
Gina put forth concerning the Charles Bar event she has worked
hard to develop over the years. I wonder why some would choose
to disrespect DLV in general. I used to think there was no such
thing as unconcerned people at DLV. Now I'm not so sure. But one
thing I can say, Gina is someone who is to be respected and I
hope she will be able to continue putting on the Charles Bar
into the future.

I wonder, is there a lack of events at DLV where people of the
"Wildside" genre would feel at home? Whether there is or not, I
have come to understand that DLV is not for everyone. And no one
should have to feel uncomfortable. Being out as TG in the world
is hard enough as it is.

I hope we can spend the next year clarifying what DLV is all
about so that only those who are on the same wavelength as the
DLV mission would feel compelled to attend. What matters most
is that DLV is comfortable for all who do attend, and maybe
those who don't fit will put their energy into doing something
that matches their mindset.

All the best....J.

There is one item I would like to point out here, one thing that
has gotten buried in the noise.

Among our official (registered, validated, checked-in) attendees
this year there were ZERO incidents regarding dress!

That's right, none, nada, zippo, zilch!

I really wish that the appropriate, commendable, and classy dress
of our almost 170 participants would garner a fraction of the
attention as that of one who was not even part of our group!

Annie, you're always the optimist. And so right. So far nothing
has been mentioned about the 170 registered participants who
chose to be classy ladies and follow the rules set forth by DLV.

Girls, give yourselves a great pat on the back!

But the focus is on all the attention over one person who wasn't
even part of DLV. However, if I understand correctly this person
was amongst our people and, I'm sure when the problem arose, no
one was going to stop and ask, "are you with DLV or not?" The
assumption is that she is with us. When you walk with ducks,
you are a duck as the saying goes.

Other than for Gina to inform the guard that this particular
person was not part of the DLV group (although I do believe
if I read the email correctly, she was accompanying a DLV
attendee), what else could Gina have done? Perhaps Gina could
have told the DLV attendee that she would have to tell her
friend to leave? This would be good to know in case something
similar were to occur in the future.

I sure noticed it! Both during DLV and in reviewing the photos
(yes, the first ones are gonna be up for review very shortly)
it was very obvious that our people know how to dress with class.

There were a number of other things I noticed, or rather the
lack of ...

No reports of invading the ladies room in groups. I think we're
now all on the same page regarding that one.

I can't remember hearing a single smoking complaint this year,
and if so, that's two years running! This used to be one of our
major sore spots. Thanks to all, both smokers and nonsmokers
for getting along!

One thing that was obviously and delightfully absent this year
was what I call "bitching for the sake of bitching", where
somebody is not happy in general and just wants to dump. Every
time this year when I was called aside on one of those "can I
speak to you" things, it was a legitimate concern. (There
really was not too much to bitch about this year, actually!) :)

BDR incidents are like a black hole. They absorb all of the
energy and attention within their force field. They distract
from other items. People love dirty laundry, that's just a
fact of life. Looking over the hit list on the server here,
the "Charles Bar" and "Relax the Rules" threads had more
hits over the past 18 hours or so than all other threads
combined.
