T-minus 1 month!

Well, I'm getting pretty excited for my first DLV! I can play the
guitar, but I'm not bringing mine. My suitcase will be packed only with
those things I keep hidden in the darkest corner of my closet! As I
expected, my work schedule is starting to rear its ugly head, and now my
DLV adventure will only be Monday thru Wednesday, and that makes the
welcome festivities and NSD that much more important to me. Looking
forward to the sign-ups and meeting lots of new, fun friends. I will be
staying at St. Tropez, and at the GB at 2pm Monday. Anyone else? Any
other first-timers?

XOXOXO,

Anna

You might want to put a book in the side pocket, just in case they
lose it and you have to tell them what's inside. bwahahahahaha!

I can take a hint myself, so as a first timer this year (Sun pm-Thurs
am), driving from Phoenix, I just changed to the St Tropez ($79/day) to
hopefully be nearer to "birds" of a feather than the Marriott Conv
Center was likely to be. HINT: I just realized I had earned $400 in cash
on a credit card (rewards) I'd forgotten about!!! That's room money!!!
WooHOO!!! Check out your own card rewards potential, girls! Or the
coffee can on the top shelf.

So forgive me asking, but in girl mode at Karaoke night, am I allowed to
sing Toby Keith or Axl Rose songs while dressed more like Diana Krall or
Sheryl Crow? tee-hee-hee (I mean, provided I can pull it off... which I
can the Toby and Axl; but Diana and Sheryl... well, time will tell...
except for in my own mind)

C'ya there!

I have sung "Because I Got High", "Sweet Transvestite", "Strokin'",
and "Uneasy Rider", at DLV, at gay bars, and at straight bars, and I
don't have a boy mode anymore.

See the DLV guidelines if you need to know whether or not something
is prohibited. DLV used to be one big drunk-a-thon and anything went,
until we got bigger and had a few problems, so a few guidelines were
put into place. Notice now that we don't have much in the way of
lore, or as much fun anymore. This is because people are coming here
from conventions, where things are a little more tight-assed. You're on
vacation, and if you're at an open dress event, you can do just about
anything you want. Loosen up a little...you're mother's not coming with
us, although I showed my mom the Sweet Transvestite video and she said
that I was quite an entertainer. :)

BTW, ANSI, did I give you that video? If not, I could try to find
it for you.

Britney:

You can sing anything you want that's in the songbook.

Since it is a live band that's playing, there is a smaller songbook
(about 250 songs, IIRC) because the band has to know how to play all
of them. Each song is only performed once, so whoever signs up to sing
it first gets to perform it. You are only allowed to sing once, in
order to give everyone a chance to perform.

Thanks, MB. Wow, a LIVE BAND!?!? I am used to the relatively known
quantity of a CD (music recording on optical disk, NOT me! tee-hee),
sometimes I bring my own custom CD with my mixes (I take my karaoke
seriously!) How does karaoke work with a live band? Or are was that a
sneaky April Fool's joke you're playing on a nice, tall, blond girl
named after a bimbo?

Speaking of April Fools, did anyone else enjoy the Google Gmail one
about using time travel for sending emails you'd previously forgotten
to send? That was pretty good one.

Brit:

Yes, it is a live band. There is a sparse rhythm track timed to the
words on the monitor, and the guitars and drummer play along to the
track while you sing. The effect is that you are singing in front of a
live band. That's why there's only a couple of hundred songs on the
list instead of the thousands you're used to. The band has to know how
to play all of them.
