Flats and Heels - How to have them both!

My answer to the fashionable v. comfortable footwear issue is to
carry a large purse and wear comfortable flats to and from the
event, changing into the heels I've been carrying in a plastic
bag in my purse upon my arrival and departure.

Even when I drive to an event and can change in the car, I still
tend to wear flats and carry the heels, if heels are more
appropriate, because the distance from a hotel's parking garage
through the hotel reception area and casino to the event may be
what seems like miles in high heels.

Then too in some places, shows for example, who am I going to
impress with high heels and why? Often high heels are more
liability than asset. Aching feet don't contribute to a fun
evening or next day for that matter!

As Densie or someone has suggested, overdressing, especially in
Las Vegas is a sure way to call unwanted attention to yourself.
When in Rome dress as the Romans and when in Las Vegas dress as
the tourists!

Ginger,

I wish I had that suggestion when we hiked from the parking garage
to the show room at the Riviera and then had to do it twice that
year! Ouch!

Its no only walking from one casino property to another, for some
casinos, you've got the hike from the street to the casino, ie Bellagio.
Or walking around a big casino can be a hike and takes several
minutes.

I've gotten blisters just doing that at places like Mandalay Bay, NYNY,
MGM, TI, Mirage,etc.

Since I'm using the Bellagio as a example, its takes several minutes to
go from the main entrance to the Buffet, and thats as the crow flies,
and not getting lost inside the casino. Another is the parking lot of
MGM to Studio 54. Once the blisters are there, its pain for one's feet
the rest of the night and of DLV. The redness can be seen if wearing
sandals.

I would also suggest that one breaks in the heels, flats, sandals or
sneakers before getting to LV. Bring the ones most comfortable. It
will help reduce the corns and blisters. Walking in LV is not a good
place to break in the footwear. It can cause you to walk funny (limp),
or change your femme walk to a male walk, or something more noticeable,
that can bring attention to yourself. Taking them off and walking
bare-foot in a casino is also very noticeable, and can open oneself to
getting read, and your foot stepped upon, or walking over something
that can penetrate ones foot, like glass from a broken glass cup that is
invisible to they eye - which will cause more hardship.

What one wears also defines what footwear is worn. So if you want to
wear flats or sneakers, then dress accordingly also. Females will be
the first to notice any obvious mis-match of clothing with shoes.

I've been checked out by alot of GGs. Its interesting is those that do,
they start either from the foot and look up to the head, or from the
head to the foot. They completely check you out as far as overall
appearance then concentrate on certain parts. Guys tend to look at the
crotch/hips/butt or boobs first, then the face.

Hose while wearing heels also helps prevent blisters too, and also sheer
hose with sandals, where the hose is almost invisible. Its sometimes
not fashionable when wearing visible colored hose or nylons with
sandals - it just looks funny. Neither is wearing sandals showing bad
blisters or band-aides.

Another option is to get a pair of hard-soled ballet slippers,
which will fold down and not take up too much room in your
purse.

Some news on the new 'crocs' slip on sandals.

Locally, a few adults, but mainly kids have gotten
their 'croc's caught in escalators. The media didn't
go into detail how they did it, but somehow those
sandals have been getting caught in escalators where
some serious damage has happened to kid's and
a few adults's toes and foot.

So be careful.... I'll try to find the articles, but they
came out last year when those things were just
getting popular.

Yup,

Just use any search engine and use keywords like
croc and escalator, and it should hit several articles
about these sandals. Mostly small kids have gotten
hurt by them.

Being that LV casinos have many escalators, please
be careful on using them.

SAS has some nice comfortable black flats for about a hundred bucks. I
bought them to wear with my black suits, and the look works, but you
could wear them with any pants suit, or even jeans. I'm sure that they
have something with heels too, but definitely do break them in before
you walk around in Vegas, whatever you buy.

There are many flats that look good with all but the most dressy
clothing and casual clothing as well; For example the Enzo Angiolini
"Liberty" is one that is almost ubiquitous. It comes in an large variety
of colors and materials and in extended sizes.
