I thought I would post this summary of the Vegas trip that Tony and I
took this week, as a harbinger of things to come:
Saturday:
Tony and I took off about 3pm. I wanted to listen to music on the
flight, but Tony insisted on (yecch) flight following. When we got to
Phoenix Class B airspace, they handed us off to the approach controller,
who was kind enough to vector us over the airport and add about half an
hour to our trip.
Arrived at North LV airport. We were surprised to find that they had a
courtesy van to take us to the Sahara. Our room was ready and we had no
problems checking in. We played some video poker and went to the
buffet.
Sunday:
More video poker in the morning. I had arranged for us to see the Dr.
Naughty show, which I knew nothing about but which sounded interesting.
That evening, we got a call from the show and they had cancelled it for
Sunday night. We arranged to see it Monday night.
Monday:
Went to the casino early in the morning and kicked ass on video poker.
In the time that it took to drink three comp beers, I hit four aces
three times. Tony hit four 6's on his first draw and a few more four of
a kinds. We got to know Roger, the guy who stocked the machine, pretty
well as he had to come back several times to bring us more money. All
this and free beer too!
We coined the term "Schwartzeneger hand" for a hand that was so crappy
that all five cards had to be thrown out. Get it? Instead of "Total
Recall", it was "Total Redeal".
Aghhh, yourself...and I misspelt Arnold's name on purpose. :)
And, of course, we had our share of "courtesy flushes", a term that
Annie can explain.
We decided to ride the roller coaster at the Sahara. They will sell you
an all-day pass for about what one ride costs, so we did that. It goes
out and around a loop, straight up a 250-ft tower, then back down and
around the track backwards. It was so much fun that we rode it twice,
but that was enough for me.
Went back to the room and had another voicemail from the Dr. Naughty
show. They cancelled it again! We got a refund and they said that they
would comp us the show on the next visit. Tony and I joked that they
would probably comp anyone who wanted to see the show, as that was
probably the only way they could get an audience.
Tuesday:
Time to go home. We played some more video poker, but I only hit four
aces once.
Flight back was uneventful. We did have to duck under Gladden and
Baghdad MOAs, and go around Phoenix, which added about 30 minutes to our
trip, but we still made it in 3.5 hours, which wasn't too bad
considering the wind conditions. The weather, as usual, was severe
clear, but there wasn't any jetstream to ride.
Hope to make at least one more trip to Vegas before DLV, and we'll see
you all there.
