Just thinking of other themes we could play with and wanted to throw out
a few for consideration or slam-basting.

A Tropical theme. I'd love to see one of our girls do the Carmen
Miranda thing. But the chance to wear colorful tropical prints is
always nice. Maybe for a trip to the Rio?

Since we had some interest in Secretaries night, but nothing
overwealming, how about a "business womans breakfast or brunch" before
an activity that would work with that mode of dress. The Art Tour is a
possibility, maybe a mall visit, or some new idea that surfaces between
now and next DLV.

Is there anything to take Diva downtown? Is there really a downtown to
go to? Those who like real casual, jeans and a tee shirt, the 4 wheel
drive trip would be perfect.

I thought about and rejected Amish (the nun has precidence), Pre-Teen,
Daisy Duke and Laura Croft as possible themes. (The average age of our
group was over 50.) There have to be better ideas out there as we look
at the proposed schedule of activities.

Hey Sarah.

I like the Rio Idea, I suggested it a couple of years back but alas
it was ahead it's time, Tsk Tsk! Seriously though, I think DLV has
evolved quite a bit since then, and expanded too by gosh to 104 ladies
this year Wow! So with that in mind I suspect a Rio Samba type night
might be a nice addition to 2005.

I like the Freemont Street night idea too. During the 2003 DLV Limo
Tour stop at The 4 Queens a few of us wandered off and ventured into the
Freemont Street Arcade and socialized with some of the people there who
seemed to accept us quite well, especially the women who seemed a tad
curious, The husbands of whome stood at the regulation safe distance. I
think if we stayed away from the East end where The Neonopolis Center is
we would be ok. This seems to be inhabited by the younger set!

Kate.

Well, let's see ... there's gaming, then there's a new drag-theme club
supposed to be opening up Real Soon Now, gaming, the Fremont Street
Experience, gaming, lotsa small souvenir shops and such, gaming ...

>Is there really a downtown to go to?

Oh yes, it's there, and quite popular, actually. We've had people stay
there and go to various places there on their own, and we've stopped
there on the limo tour each time, IIRC.

The last real DLV activity I remember downtown was the Kenny Kerr Show
at the Plaza in 1999.

Hi Sara and Hi Kate!

I speak singularly ... only for myself.

For DLV I think going downtown is a good idea. If Golden Gate casino is
still there, they may be still selling shrimp coctail for under $2 a
cup. I remember a time when alot of casinos were offering shrimp
coctails for less than a dollar....but thats in the past.

Fremont also has this margarita, daquiri - mini casino place called
LaBayou. Originally they had about 10-15 flavors but have cut down the
variety. I've been there a few times, pretty good product. I've tried
different flavors, all good... strawberry, orange dreamsickle,
chocolate, watermelon...

Some tell me that the slots are more loose downtown. The casinos are
smaller, some darker, alot older, dirty, and maybe also smelly...or
trashy as in like a dump. Minimum betting is also smaller. I'm not sure
if the Plaza still has the 25cent minimum on the craps table. I was
when I was learning craps... $20 went a long way.

FOR me in particular, it would be a bad place enfemme. Downtown is where
MANY residence from my state go to LV to gamble. At least 4-5 casinos
are filled with them daily and I would be read more easily, and probably
run into someone who knows me, for that many go to LV daily... (about
2-3 filled DC-10s or 767s) They stay at the Fremont, Golden Nugget, 4
Queens, LVclub, California, MainStreet and others.

The Fremont experience area is safe at all hours because of the 24x7
very visable security, but don't wander off on the side streets...its a
bad area. Remember, Annie meet Lester the Molster drunk down
there....who wanted to have a date w/Annie.

Golden Gate (Sal Sagev) is still there. It's an institution! It ain't
goin' anywhere soon.

They tell me (the ubiquitous "they", actually the reports from the
Gaming Commission which track slot payouts) that this is a true
statement.

The only real trashy ones I can think of right off hand are the Gold
Spike and the Western.

LOL - a while back somebody actually submitted the Western as one for
our "Big List", and I think it's about the only thing I've ever
rejected for that.

The El Cortez has an "Old Vegas" gritty feel to it, but it's perfectly
save. Just don't wander to the east of that block. :)

You will have to ask Densie about Lester. She's the one who keeps in
contact with him.

But seriously, the FSE area is quite safe. We've had people go down
there almost since day one of DLV. No incidents that I'm aware of.

I think as long as you stay within a block or so of Fremont and don't
wander east of the El Cortez you will be safe.

I would emphasize the rule about not hanging around in groups, however.

There is supposed to be a new drag-theme club opening up downtown Real
Soon Now, around Carson and 1st. iirc. They originally tried to lease
space in Neonopolis, but the then-management of Neonopolis snubbed them,
saying it didn't fit their "image" or at least what they thought their
image was. Apparently Neonopolis is now under new management, but the
club promoter already signed a lease for a property closer to the main
FSE area. At least that's what "they" tell me. :)

Oh well ... :)
