What's happening - What you need to do ...

Postby annie » Sun Feb 27, 2011 6:10 pm

As we enter our "crunch time" in the month prior to the big event there is always a flurry of questions, concerns, desires, etc. There are also a few things which are unclear, as well as some misunderstandings, particularly from the perspective of those who have never attended DLV before.

Here are some notes on current goings-on, things to come, and things you will need to do in order to participate in DLV 2011. I apologize if I appear somewhat pedantic, but everyone's cooperation is essential for a smoothly-functioning event which leads to everyone's maximum enjoyment.

Our volunteers are now in the process of finishing up an absolutely dynamite schedule of activities this year! The level of enthusiasm among our volunteers is extremely high, and I want to thank them in public for their efforts. These are people who have given their time and effort, and in some cases their own money, to make DLV happen. These are some of the finest people in the known universe! They are unpaid, and unfortunately in too many cases unthanked for their contributions! We need to show our volunteers our appreciation!

Anyway ...

For those who want to participate in Diva Las Vegas in any form, you will need to register. Joining the mailing list, joining MyDLV, or joining the Yahoo group will not register you. Sending an "I will be there ..." message via e-mail will not do it. You can register on line here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/registerdlv2011.html

This registration is your "key to the door" to DLV, and it costs nothing to register.

Yes, we still get occasional reports that "so-and-so said I don't really have to register", and you can be assured that so-and-so is most definitely mistaken. :)

If there are any questions or concerns about registration, please ask here.

You will need to be registered by Sunday, March 6, in order to get in on the first round of activity sign-up, which is the next topic ...

Activity sign-up will begin the week of Monday, March 7.

This is where you tell us which of several optional activities (about 40 at last count) you want to do.

Yes, there have been unofficial headcounts and "show of hands" requests here, but it's the activity sign-up process that officially signs you up to do the various things.

During the days of March 7 - 10, everyone who holds a valid registration will receive a link to their own personal activity sign-up screen. This screen will list all activities for which a headcount, sign-up, or prepayment is required and will give details of the activity and, when applicable, payment instructions. You simply check the activities you want to do, in some cases fill in some blanks, and hit the "Submit" button at the bottom of the screen.

Some activities have a capacity limit. In most cases it's "first signed, first served", but for some activities (Limo Tour, Golf, High Tea) it will be payment which locks in your spot. Details on how to pay for each activity requiring payment is outlined in detail on the activity sign-up screen.

If you change your mind, in most cases you can go back and adjust your selections. Some activities have deadlines for sign-up and for cancellation, and these will be noted on the sign-up screen.

Any questions or concerns about activity sign-up, please ask here.

A summary of what you're signed up for will be sent to you as part of the Large Final Mailing, which brings up our next topic ...

During the week prior to DLV we send out what we call the Large Final Mailing. This goes out to all who are registered and have reconfirmed by selecting their activities. It contains such things as maps, excruciatingly-detailed schedules, dress suggestions for each activity, contact information, check-in information, how to find the group, what to do if you can't find the group, what to do if you get "stuck" in your hotel room or vehicle, various discounts and promotions and all kinds of things. In addition, it details special off-schedule informal Pre-DLV get-togethers on the Saturday prior to the big event.

"The Pre-DLV gatherings are a reward for those who read the Large Final Mailing." :)

DLV can be very fast-paced, so please, everybody, be informed and be prepared and make the most of it! :)

Any questions or concerns, please ask, right here, and the sooner the better. :)
