Here are a few hints and tricks regarding the DLV Discussion
Forum.

1. The web interface was never intended to be the primary
input and output method. It's a quick hack to allow posting
from what's normally intended to be an archive of the traffic.

The posting limit using the web interface was recently
increased from 1k (1024 chars) to 2k (2048) chars, but
this was never intended for anything but brief postings
and replies.

The "cleanest" interface into the Forum, by far, is to
post and read via e-mail. Just send a "subscribe" note
to: dlvdisc@geekbabe.com and you're all set. You can
then post using your fave e-mail software.

Using this, you can select whether you want to receive
the postings in individual messages or as digests. It's
suggested that you request individual messages, since
during slow times it can be up to a week or so until
a digest is created and sent out.

2. If you prefer, you can read and post using Yahoo,
via the "dlvegas" Yahoo Group. This, again, was never
intended to be the primary input and output method.
It was set up as a convenience for those who are on
Yahoo Groups regularly and prefer that interface.

The gatewaying between the Geekbabe and Yahoo sides
is usually reliable, but I do estimate that there's
about a 1-3% "black hole rate", both ways, when the
messages are gatewayed between the two media.

For those who use Yahoo mail, please be reminded
that Yahoo Mail and Yahoo Groups are two different
things, even though you can read and post to and
from Yahoo Groups via Yahoo Mail. Yes, it can be
confusing. :)

3. If you wish to quote (include) parts of the message
to which you are replying, be sure that the quoted
part of the previous message appears before your new
text. The "aprxx" script cuts off everything that may
appear past the last line of fresh input. This is
sometimes known as the "conversational quoting" style
and has its basis in the customs of Usenet.

Any other questions or concerns about the Forum, please
let me know.
