Tony,

I am very very sorry for your loss. As you may recall, I went through a
similar thing when we lost a dear friend of mine, Mardi, just before DLV
last year. And I know how difficult it can be at an intensive event like
DLV. You have my deepest sympathy.

Densie was a good friend of mine, as she was with many DLVers. I'm really in kind of a state of shock here, and I don't really know what to say, but I'll try ...

I just spoke to Tony, her surviving husband, on the phone. He and the family are doing as well as can be expected, considering the circumstances.

The family is now in the process of making the final arrangements. There will be a suggested memorial, but that has not been set as of this time. When this has been settled upon, we'll get it posted here.

If anyone wishes to get in contact with Tony and family, e-mail me personally (annie@geekbabe.com) and we'll do an exchange of e-mail addresses.

If anyone is unsure who Denise (Densie) is, this photo should be viewable by all:

She is the one on the left. (Not the best photo, but the first one I came on while writing this.)

Densie (that nickname came from an infamous on-line typo and kind of stuck) was one of the original gang who first came up with the idea for what became DLV. She did miss the first one, but made the second one in 1998 and has been a regular ever since, as well as an active volunteer.

When Densie married, her husband, Tony, also became a regular at DLV.

Tony, I know I speak for the whole gang here when I say that we would love to see you at DLV! I know that Densie would have wanted it that way. I'm sure you know that you will be among friends!

Again, my sincere condolences go out to Tony, the family, and the countless friends she had within our community and the community at large.

Tony,

I've been trying to find an e-mail address for you, but I only have one
for Denise so I can't send a more personal message.

[ Moderator's note: We'll get you each other's e-mail addresses. ]

Denise's death hurts us all, but you must be devastated by her loss. She
was so funny and talented in so many ways and enriched the lives of
everyone who knew her.

I met both of you in my first year at DLV. You and Denise were special
to me, which I think you knew. She was younger than me, but I looked up
to her in so many ways. I'm going to miss seeing her at DLV, her
Facebook postings, her occasional e-mails, and in so many other ways.
Her memories are precious.

I don't know of anything I can say to make you loss less than it must
be, but know that Kay and I have you, and will keep you, in our
thoughts.

Wishing you the best in these circumstances,

Ginger

Damnit!

There were still too many songs to sing. Too many places left to shoot guns
or dress as a nun. There were too many bartenders who needed to hear a story
or poker machines that needed to be drained of their company profit. There
were beers and bottles of cheap champagne that needed her attention. There were
too many DLV people who would have benefited from knowing this amazing,
challenging, abrasive, talented, caring, spontaenous, drinking, grease
stained, singing, flying, driving, deamon-battling, soaring human being.
Damnit and damnit again. She deserved more time in the driver's seat of that
hearse before getting that last ride in the back.

I'm sorry for your loss Tony. Thank you for sharing her with us for all these
years.

Her legend will live on.

Sarah
