I went to a local lawyer who is transgendered. She did all the work. Her
number is 702-732-4341. Her name is Chris DiEdoardo. Her retainer was $500.

Just some helpful hit on name changes, I if your seeing a medical
doctor and also a therapist it is advisable to get a letter from
each 1st.

Then you need to go to your county court and file a petition (here in
Il it cost me $280 to file and another $45 to have published 3
times. Then try to find a lawyer who understands the tg situation
and will help you ($100 - $500).

When you go to court dress courtroom appropriate, a skirt or dress
and look your best. Answer any question w/ a smile and be polite.

One that's granted get several certified copied for your other
items you need to change, and take copies of your letters when
going for a drivers license (that also got my gender changed
to female), Social security wgave name change but will not change
gender for me until SRS and hospital birth certificate change
(because I was born in Indiana), the take and let your bank make
copies and fill those changes. I also had a State License for my
profession that required a copy of the court order, as did the
banks, and places I have charge cards.

Hope this helps in your quest for happiness,
Phyllis

>Just some helpful hit on name changes,

I think the court fee cost me about $50 in State Superior Court, no
doctors or lawyers required...there's nothing about them in the name
change statutes. I just typed up the standard form and the judge didn't
even read it, just asked me if I had any kids and signed it. He
probably didn't even notice that I stuck in there that all legal gender
markers were to be changed from male to female.

The driver's license people were smiley and helpful.

As for SS, I just went to the window with the court paper and they
changed it.

I didn't need a birth certificate because my passport says Female on it.
They're happy to issue it that way temporarily in case you're going out
of the country, then they make it permanent when they get the note from
your surgeon.

My bank wanted a "one and the same" letter, which they typed up and
notarized themselves, once they understood what was going on. All they
needed were my old and new driver's licenses.

For these $280, $500, etc. costs, you could probably have all of this
documentation faked down in Mexico. :)

Changing my paperwork was the easiest part of the whole thing, and cost
almost nothing. It was almost the same procedure as getting married and
taking your husband's name, which I also did. Electrolysis was the fun
part, and being handed the legal terms and conditions to sign in the
gurney on the way to the OR, after you've paid your $13,500 and been
sedated for the surgery. I loved it when the nurses made fun of us in
French too, not realizing that I understood enough to get most of it. I
passed their comments on to Dr. Brassard. :)
