Galiano [sic] Challenge

I have a draft copy of the sometime-to-be-released collection of DLV
history and lore. The Galiano{sic} chapter goes something like this ...

+4. Galiano

+Galiano [sic] is a very nasty substance. I've been told that it is
+commonly used as a jet fuel additive and an indistrial degreaser. The
+taste (and the effect) of Galiano can be approximated by a 50/50 mix of
+vodka and Robitussin. (Kids, don't try this at home, adults, don't try
+this anywhere.) Most people know Galiano [sic] as the key ingredient in
+a Harvey Wallbanger and a Golden Cadillac.

+Needless to say, this stuff is recklessly intoxicating!

+Margeth drinks Galiano [sic] straight. Margeth also decided that all of
+us present at Keys Lounge one evening should have the pleasure (??) of
+drinking Galiano straight.

+So, she ordered a round for the table, not allowing anybody to opt out
+of the process.

+I remember joking around about what was this, lighter fluid? Maybe
+Nyquil? Acetone?

+I took sips of it every so often, not wanting to appear unappreciative
+to Margeth's sudden generosity.

+Little did I know that whenever I turned my head, Densie would pour
+part of hers, and possibly of others glasses into mine, so my sips were
+consistently replenished.

+To make a long story short, I got very drunk very fast, to the
+amusement of all onlookers, and very sick afterward.

+Oh yes, I became very well acquainted with Ralph that night, or rather
+that morning. :(

+Galiano has become quite the legend at DLV. Ever since 1998, an annual
+game of "get Annie to drink Galiano" has been played.

Other chapters in this yet-to-be-released compendium include such things
as Beginnings, Excess baggage, 7-11, Cold bath, Galiano, DelMar and Oh
Pooh.

No, that honor goes to somebody else who, for some reason, happens to be
mentioned in most of the above tales.

However, I will probably want to write it so the exaggerated and
embelished version does get into circulation. :)

To All--- I have been reading this e-mail dialog about Galliano for over
two years--- I am now compelled to "place my oar" into this dialog-----

A personal story----

Galliano -- a train wreck waiting to happen---I say!! My mother drank
it-- with 1/3 [no more and no less] of Club Soda... It gave a "rush to
the brain"... For my Mother not much left of the brain after 30 years
drinking this "poison".

As the story may be told: Some kids experiment with smoking their
parents' "longer" cigarette butts left in the ash tray--- not JoAnn
[who did not know that this would be her name 25 years later]-- as she
"sipped" the Gallinao drink that her Mother left on the coffee table
when Mom went to the bathroom---

In time--- with JoAnn's late teen years came a life's difficult choice:

Galliano that had an overwhelming rush that was sweet and "ugly" at the
same time, or Dad's single malt Scotch on the rocks that tasted like
"iodine"---

The winner---- Scotch because it did not give me a "hangover" and it
did not have the Galliano aftertaste of a dead skunk in my mouth the
next day!!!!

A "personal story" JoAnn

PS----Dad lived longer than Mom and he was 15 years older than her!!!

Everything's a tradeoff, isn't it? But are you sure she wasn't pouring
Liquid Plumber (tm) into her glass? A lot of Galiano drinkers make that
mistake...that's why they put it in the funny shaped bottle.
