DLV Timing....

There will be no set of dates that will be ideal for everybody. However,
we had a 2+ month discussion period on the ORG list followed by a vote.

This was followed by a one-month comment period for all.

>There are a couple of us (me included) that would find it VERY
>difficult to justify attending both {DLV and N+I} if they were
>separated, not only for financial reasons, just the reason to be
>absent and away in the US.

First, let's first go back and review some of the history leading up to
this ...

If we go back to look at the three timeframes voted upon, two of them (A
and B) adjoin N+I and do allow one to attend both one one ticket. There
was an option that allowed DLV/N+I and did not abut Mothers Day.

+A. Monday, May 3 thru Saturday, May 8, with a possible extension of one
+day either way.

+B. Monday, May 17 thru Saturday, May 22, with a possible extension of
+one day either way.

+C. Monday, April 19 thru Saturday, April 24, with a possible extension
+of one day either way.

The Mothers Day issue was first mentioned in the May 29 ORG mailing, was
discussed in several places in the June 4 ORG mailing, and was mentioned
in the June 11 and July 9 ORG mailings.

In any case, the electorate should have been well informed about the
juxtaposition of the one choice with Mothers Day.

The vote was clearly in favor of the 3-8 timeframe, it getting more
votes than the others combined.

+Results of the vote for the DLV 2004 timeframe are:

+A. (5/3-8): 13
+B. (5/17-22): 5
+C. (4/19-24): 5
+ Abstain: 1

>ANNIE: Is there enough comments to consider a (dear I say it) a vote,
>referendum, or whatever on who is affected by Mothers Day.

There was already a one-month call for comments, which elicited a grand
total of one comment, preferring the April timeframe for reasons of
weather.

My hunch is that if we called (again) for comments from the Teeming
Millions, the response would be only a small fraction of those on the
list.

I don't remember if you were on line the other night when this topic
came up, but there was a brief discussion of what it would take to
change the scheduled dates.

We don't have any procedure in place for invalidating the current dates,
but if there were a motion, a second, and a call for votes to invalidate
the current dates, that would do it, assuming the motion carried.

In any case, the actual organizational issues belong over in the ORG
group, not here, and this particular issue will appear in the upcoming
mailing.

If anybody is serious about wanting the scheduled DLV dates to be
retroactively reconsidered, he/she can make a motion/second (to the ORG
group, not here) for a call for votes to do just that.
