What does, Mainstream/Alternative, mean?

TG/TS, as opposed to CD/fetish, or simply "sleasy" as opposed to normal/hi-dollar? Or maybe, something else entirely?

"Mainstream-Alternative Night" is not an activity, but is kind of an umbrella term used for one of our evenings where several activities will be happening, some of them being "mainstream", in general-public venues, and some of them being "alternative", in either "safe" or GLBT-friendly venues.

The term comes from way back in DLV's history when, during our growing pains, one of the disagreements was the degree to which DLV was to be exposed to the general public. Mainstream-Alternative Night was named to show that there is (and always was) a desire for both hardcore general public activities as well as those activities which are either comfortable to those just coming out, or appropriate for those who wish to dress in outfits not appropriate for the general public.

As a newbie I really have no idea! So, how fetishy would u say "Alterative" gets? Without ruffling anyone's feathers?

A couple of years ago Annie put a wonderful page together discussing the different modes of dress, including photos to help illustrate. When I last checked, that resource was still out there on the DLV public web site and is good for a lookylook. See if that helps and if not, come back and ask again.

Edit . . . Actually we can probably ruffle the feathers of some folks just because we exist, so please don't use that as your criteria.

It depends on which activities you're talking about here. Let's look at the activities of Mainstream-Alternative night and briefly discuss the dress suggestions and restrictions, if any, for each.

8:00pm: IMAX Movie Night (Brendan Palms IMAX) - ms

IMAX Movie Night would be mainstream dress only. Casual to moderately dressy. No slutty/fetish.

8:00pm: Fremont Street Experience (Fremont Street) - ms

Ditto for the Fremont Street Experience. Anyone dressed as a hooker in that area can expect to be confronted by FSE Security (if you're lucky) or Metro PD (if you're not lucky).

8:30pm: Alternative Bar Crawl (Buffalo) - sv

Almost anything goes on the Alternative Bar Crawl. If it covers what legally needs to be covered, it will most likely be fine for any of the bars we will visit.

9:00pm: Sassy To Classy Nite - Talent Show (Crewsn) - sv

Anything "sassy" within reason will be fine here.

9:30pm: Frank Marino Divas Show (Imperial Palace) - ms

For Frank Marino, casual to formal is fine. Flashy is fine, trashy is not.

11:59pm: Late Night Clubbing (Krave) - sv

For Krave, the door staff enforces dress code. Flashy, fetish-y, and clubby are usually ok. "Gang-y" attire is what places like this usually prohibit.
