LAS VEGAS (AP) The Las Vegas Hilton hotel-casino officially changed
its name to drop its hotel chain moniker on Tuesday after a license
agreement expired at the start of 2012.

Workers changed the hotel marquee to reflect the new name for the
property east of the Las Vegas Strip: The Las Vegas Hotel & Casino.

Its new motto: "Same Fame. New Name."

It's the second time Elvis Presley's former haunt has changed its
name. Billionaire investor Kirk Kerkorian opened the property in 1969
as the International Hotel, then sold it to the Hilton chain. It
became the Las Vegas Hilton in 1971.

The Las Vegas (Hilton) Hotel is also trying out a program where they will offer guests $10 credit per day if they do not use the daily housekeeping service.

I can't imagine that will be very popular.

Not only the water, but the energy required to heat the water and dry the towels and such.

I'll often times put the DND sign up when I'm on a trip. I really don't need the bed to be made, and they usually give you enough towels and such to last a few days. With the laptop usually on the bed, I'll often prefer than nobody enter the room.

I agree Annie. It is quite a waste to change the sheets everyday. FYI, I
am planning a trip to Vegas February 26th - 28th for the National Pond
Professional (NAPP) show. I will be at the Suncoast Hotel and Casino. If
anyone is around, maybe we could get together. I sense a Galiano in the
works.

I hope that does become popular. By not using housekeeping each day
meaning not having new sheets and towels each day imagine the water that
can be saved.

On the downside, it probably means job cuts in the housekeeping staff. :(

They should have called it the Whyte House!

The supposed penthouse was used by billionaire Willard Whyte played by
Jimmy Dean (singer)back in 1971 Diamonds Are Forever. I remember

Sean Conneryriding to roof of the elevator. I liked how Plenty O'Toole
Lara Wood looked over Jill St. John. But for me the best was Diana Rigg
- the Countess - or Contessa Teresa 'Tracy' di Vicenzo in Her Majesty's
SecretService in 1969 - but I liked her character too in the series as
Mrs Emma Peel from The Avengers. All of her outfits in both movie and
TV series were really good too -- thatkinda help fuel the beginnings of
my CDing.

She had it all - great body, face, personality (in film). The only
bride of James Bond... and I was a pre-teen with hormones going wild.
There was a later bond film that supposed having him visiting her grave
- not sure which film it was but I think it was one with Roger Moore as
Bond (and The Saint) For Your Eyes Only.

memories....
