There was a time when Abe Lincoln's b-day Feb. 12 & G. Washington Feb. 22 was celebrated on those dates. No longer. Now they are a part of Presidents Day, which is celebrated on the third Monday of Feb., regardless of the date. I wonder how many people born after 1980 that know this. It isn't the date that counts, it's the celebration of the event. How many other things are celebrated on a different date than when it actually happened, so that we can have a 3 day weekend. Again, what's more important, the remembrance of what happened or the date.
The 1st major battle of the Revolutionary War was the Battle of Bunker Hill, which was wrongly stated. It was actually fought on Breed's Hill, which is where the monument stands. It is a fact and it is in the history books, but what do we honor it as? The Battle of Bunker Hill! I am fully expecting someone to argue this, even though it is accepted history.
Unfortunately there are people in this world that are always politically correct. These are the same people that don't know how to compromise, read between the lines or realize that there can be a different way other then their own. They are self-centered, egotistical brats. They do not believe in fairness for everybody. They are certainly entitled to their opinion, and in their words... "no matter how wrong everyone else is."
It's not right to start a sentence with a conjunction, but here goes.......
And i certainly agree that everyone is entitled to their opinion. It would be just, so nice, if everyone would be willing to try to understand someone else's opinion. I understand being precise and exacting has a place. I just don't think it has a place all the time. Besides the the idea of "variety is the spice of life" is quite appealing to me.
