I guess I'll respond to two (or more) items at once. :)

What I (think I) said is that growth for the sake of growth should not
be a goal of DLV. I've known for years that our model would not scale
well, and that we might have to decide whether to keep the model we have
and accept the limitations, or allow it to grow into yet another of the
t* conventions.

I admit, I'm probably the one who has pushed back the hardest against
the pressures to turn DLV into yet another FanFair clone.

As for meeting rooms and rubber chicken banquets, I've said before many
times that those who wish more of a convention are free to plan one. I'm
not stopping anybody there.

What I am adamant about, is that DLV the vacation, ain't goin' away.

If you look at this coming year's developing schedule, you will see that
it is already ripe with smaller special-interest activities.

Yeah, we'll have a few standing-room-only affairs, but yes, I'm sure
that there will be many one-table-with-open-seats things too. :)

And nobody (including me) is stopping those who wish to plan a
convention.

>I know we hash this out every year, and it never does any good.

It does. It affirms (to me, anyway) that we have something unique and
special. The reason it grows is because others realize it too and the
word is out.

Oh, and if you want something that's still small (for the next couple
years, at least) there's Pinkfest. >>>>HINT<<<<

I don't think they let you fly into Miegs anymore, but I'll be glad to
meet you at MDW. :)
