"A Sweet Afternoon" Part Two

Michelle and 'Lizabeth approach our table. Michelle is a big, tall
blond, sporting a makeover; she is quiet, however, and waits for
'Lizabeth to take the lead. 'Lizabeth looks squarely at me and says:
"Hi, I'm Bob, and that's all I got to say to you." I can tell by the
twinkle in her eye although, that she is spoofing us in a precocious,
almost impudent manner; it goes over well, and she is quite charming
about it. "Well, O.K., Bob, why don't you two sit down and join us," I
say to her? They do. After a few minutes she warms up, and I must
compliment her on the really fine, green peacock print dress she is
wearing which blends so well with her flawless fine olive skin; she is
Asian, and young. I would make a play for her - play her for a date -
but I've already discerned that she and Michelle are a pair, so I'll
just leave it at that and be content with their company; they are such a
complement to our table, adding an aura of warmth and grace. Again,
life is complete. I extend my hand over to M ichelle, in her bright red
dress, and tell her: "Welcome." I then introduce Eva Marie to them. We
share laughter and talk through dinner and drinks; they are here to
stay.

And this is where Genevieve entered my life:

Happiness comes and goes they say; but sometimes, if you get really,
really lucky, maybe it will hang around for awhile. She walked up to me
and simply said, "Hi, I'm Genevieve." She had a darkly mysterious
quality about her, like she could be from some far eastern European
country - you know, one of those less traveled parts of the world that
hasn't seen any real sunlight since the middle ages, and even the
Russians are afraid to set foot in. Ever the gold digger, I immediately
had to compliment her on her lovely two-piece navy blue short sleeve
suit, outlined and patterned in white trim. Most noticeable was how it
conformed to her body shape and made her appear even more feminine. In
women's wear, fit is everything; even if you're wearing nothing but a
burlap sack, if it fits you properly, it will look good on you. And,
Genevieve looked good in her suit.

I slid over on the bench and bid her to sit with me. She immediately
plopped down beside me; that hasn't happened enough in my life. We
talked for awhile and got acquainted. I was really glad to have her
company, and for the chance to wiggle 'Lizabeth's hook out of my thigh
as well. 'Lizabeth was getting cloyish, and Michelle had been eyeing me
with a cocked eyebrow too. I offered to buy Geneieve a drink, and she
said yes, so we took off for the bar; glad for the opportunity to parade
our fine asses down the main aisle for public viewing, plus the chance
to do a little sight-seeing on our own too.

Up at the bar we were alone and got close. We traded phone numbers and
I put her number on my cell phone. I tried to call her later that
evening, but to my utter dismay I discovered that I hadn't hit the
'save' button. Her number had been lost, and now all I've got left is a
first name, and a memory. Happiness comes, and happiness goes.

I will walk on proudly, undaunted and cavalier, unashamed and unafraid
of being something that everyone would secretly dream of being, and then
hide that dream, even from themselves, as being too extreme and
unattainable, and thus never knowing a fuller and finer completeness to
life.

One thing I know for damn dead certain is that gender transition doesn't
happen overnight; it takes years, and in some cases - my case, for
instance - it can take a lifetime. I am now ten years older than the
age I post on the internet, the one I lie about, the one I use to gain
admission to websites and organizations, like DIVA. Being from a
distant part of the universe, I can get away with ethical
inconsistencies like that, and use less cosmetics too. Gender
Transition has taken me a lifetime to accomplish, but the one thing I
never did was to give up. I always knew it would happen if I just kept
my mind to it. When you are younger and burdened with heightened
dysphoria - greater dissatisfaction with your genetic side - you tend to
take greater chances and risks in the real world. Don't do that. When
you find yourself up against a transition hadicap, don't seek a
desperate fast track solution to it. Put your life on a slower track -
slow down - find an alternate route, one that circumvents the handicap,
and offers a better view along the way too. DIVA has done this very
thing for me. Over the entire week I did not recieve one single offer
from anyone for sharing intimate companionship. Not a single one of you
said: "Come hither to my room with me Ol' Hot Tomatoe and let's make the
world turn." But I refuse to let that sway my game plan, and I am
watching you all very, very closely, and I will stay on course and on
schedule until that magic moment arrives. And I know I'm on the right
track because the trip just keeps getting better and better and I'm in
no hurry at all, just 'cause I know, sooner or later I will.

Love, Cynthia
