Hi Girls,

Just wanted to share with you the latest for those of you that are, or
might be, interested in doing the roller derby training on a real bank
track, with possibly some real roller derby skaters. I heard from Lali,
the gal that runs, or owns the track, that the skaters train on. She
says it's best if we bring our own skates and protective gear, i.e.
pads: elbow and knee, and padding for your bottoms (my suggestion), and
helmets. She will be there to instruct us and, even give us a few
pointers, if we tell her when we are going to be there.

I have given her the DLV dates. We will have to sign a waiver before
getting onto the track. There is no fee involved BUT she would
appreciate a donation from each of us. So how about it girls? How many
should I let Lali know will be able to attend and do this. I think this
will be a fun experience. I'm going to get Dennis to take photographs of
us whirling around the track. Maybe we can all do a group photo. See ya'
in April..... Rosada, Roller Derby Queen!

Oh my gosh ! I would love to, just to skate around the track. I wouldn't
want to get my brains beat out by the ladies as they are pros, young,
athletes and would turn me into 220 lbs of tapioca (in a black and
blue color ? eeyeewww) but just to try a few laps on that rink, oh yeah.

I am looking for skates tomorrow !

You go girl! Hey, don't underestimate yourself. I seen some pretty hefty gals
do damage to some of these skinny things on the track. I'll be looking forward
to seeing you there....Rosada

Hi Girl,

I have been reading your messages here and it sounds like you really
have a fun time set up for the girls. I was wondering if you have a plan
for your skating outfits? Will there be a theme, a matching color, or a
style? I am sure that short skirts and matching sweathers would be a
hit.

Just wondering

Bobbie

Nah! I'm strictly in it for the skating and blocking and jamming. I'm an
"old school" gal from my skating to what I wear on the track. Nothing
whorey like the new roller girls wear, at least not for me! I'm
basically a tights, shorts and jersey gal. Maybe a scarf around my neck
ala Ann Calvello or Gerry Murray!

Side note: The roller girls of today are not real roller derby, even
though they will say they are. I was talking to a couple of them and
they have to fall on the knees because they skate flat track, which is
very hard and solid, and falling on the butts is too hard on the tail
bones, so it's not an option for them. They force themselves to fall
forward. For me that is not a natural motion to fall forward while
skating forward.

Maybe that's why they get away with wearing those skimpy outfits.

i'm with Rosada on the aspect of "wearing gear." what i have assembled
so far to serve as "uniform" (*cute outfit?*) will unlikely be "uniform"
in the sense of color & detail match with anyone else, but will have the
substance of traditional, banked-track roller-derby gear: skates, sox,
tights, shorts, jersey (w/#), protective gear. all very functional -
none of the "verging on punk slut" look that many of the "flat-track
girls" currently seem to effect.
