This is concurrent with the Nation Assoc. of Broadcasters convention,

April 1723, 2009 Las Vegas, Nev. www.nabshow.com .

This is a VERY LARGE convention. I believe hotel room prices and
availability will be strained and more expensive.

Some of my friends and I attend the NAB and want to attend Diva in the
same trip for financial reasons.

If you can move the Diva date to either before or after the NAB I
believe it will be much better for all concerned.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority calendar showed,
and still shows (I just checked before I replied) that NAB is
scheduled for April 12-15.

Venue: LVCC
Host Hotel: Las Vegas Hilton

Is this incorrect?

Several years ago... (and I'm going to date myself in just a moment) I
booked a motel room in Las Vegas and requested written confirmation of
the rates. It didn't arrive. I called back and confirmed the rates,
and requested my written confirmation again, and again, for a total of
four phone calls, and never received my written confirmation. When I
arrived and checked in with my significant other, the front desk clerk
and I reconfirmed the rates I would be staying at for the entire stay -
each night was different, and I was booked for two weekends and the week
in between. I had selected the dates because it was our anniversary,
and I was in town with my (then) significant other, Purple Rose who is
somewhat vocally and hearing impaired. Because of that we made the
calls via Relay Operators, and had printouts of the transcripts of the
calls.

A few days into the stay, the hotel manager left word that they wanted
to speak with me. I was attending Comdex during the day... seeing the
town at night with Purple Rose... that was before either of us lived in
Vegas....

The Manager had decided that because Comdex was in town, the rooms were
worth more, and not to honor the rates quoted, nor that we checked in
under those rates, nor that we paid in full upon arrival and didn't
leave a credit card open at the front desk. They simply changed the
rates on their side, took the money I had given them, exhaused it early,
and demanded more for us to continue to stay with the excuse of "no one
stays here THIS WEEK for that little!" They were completely
unreasonable, We moved out the next day, paid more elsewhere, fought it
through VISA (and the split the disputed difference) and got no sense of
closure until we saw that hotel/casino closed due to bankruptcy years
later....).

I've been inactive lately, due to many things including finances and
remarrying and staring a new family. Our first child is due this coming
December. My wife knows Purple Rose and her Father, and we hope to stay
with them for CES and thereabouts, even visiting my family in California
on the same trip. I'm not even sure why messages that usually filter
into folders didn't -- and today ended in my inbox, but TADA, today, you
get my two cents :D

Hope all is well with my friends.

JB

In the past there have been some negotiated rates.

However, we are a very small group in terms of the entirety of Las
Vegas. Moreover, our returning participants particularly tend to be
fiercely independent in their choice of accommodations that include
casino-hotels, hotels only, rental houses, time-shares, location,
desired level of service and comfort, and rates we have not seen much
interest having a designated hotel or participants choosing such a hotel
when one was available with negotiated rates. Moreover, our events do
not require, or even make a hospitality room necessary or even
desirable; if nothing else it would likely be impossible to find
persons to staff it.
