Hello,

I've been thinking of asking this question on the disc group, and
couldn't remember to asking this till now....

I would like to hear from not only cds and tgs and ts, but also ggs or
so's of disc members...

Question: What are the basic things that go in a purse?

I'd like for the items can be disputed, discussed or agreed on
and more specific than "the kitchen sink": Also feel free to
say what you don't carry that is on this list below, and all to
ADD items not on the list.

I'd like to know what we all carry around, and this can become like a
guideline for everyone, and a aide to newbies.

OK, to start a very large itemized list that I have or also considered
carrying:

Note: I'm already over 30 items in this list, so can it be shorter or
longer?

1 brush for hair (real or wig) ?
2 basic make-up for touch-ups (we can add to this list): lipstick and liner and sealer, foundation finish powder and brush, false eyelash glue, tweezers, nail file and clipper, cuticle tool,
3. compact mirror ?
4 purse with id, money, checkbook, credit cards, drivers license ?
5 tampon(s) or mini-pad (may be asked for one by a gg)?
6.tissue paper for the nose or other places?
7 blotting paper for those that have oily facial skin?
8 hand wipes to clean hands?
9 cell phone or pager?
10 pepper or mace spray or blackjack or handgun or stun gun?
11 hair pins ?
12 hair accessories like scrungies and clips?
13 sun glasses?
14 perfume?
15 mouthwash or breathmint or gum ?
16 deoderant?
17 pen and or pencil?
18 small notepad?
19 pocket knife?
20 pair of nylons/pantyhose ?
21 panty/underwear ?
22 bandaides?
23 mini flashlight ?
24 snack like a candy bar?
25 scarf for the neck ?
26 umbrella ?
27 gloves?
28 ipod/mp3, radio, walkman ?
29 Rx medicine ?
30 otc medicines ?
31 camera ?
32 hearing aide ?
33 water bottle ?
34 house, office, and car keys ?
35 bus pass
36 compact mirror?
37 magnifying glass
38 ear-rings / rings / bracelets / necklace or jewelry that is not worn.

any more items?

> Question: What are the basic things that go in a purse?

If you have access to Usenet, do some searching in the alt.fashion
archives for "What's in your purse?" and similar topics. This is
a recurring theme, and there are a lot of conventional and not so
conventional replies, some under some names that you might actually
recognize. :)

I'm mostly going to comment about some of the items I do carry or do
not.

> 2 basic make-up for touch-ups (we can add to this list): lipstick and
> 3. compact mirror ?

I carry a touch-up kit in a small zipper bag inside. I used to leave
this out if I wasn't venturing far or long, but I found out that it's
a lot better to have and not need than to need and not have.

> 10 pepper or mace spray or blackjack or handgun or stun gun?

I used to carry mace. I never used it. When it got to be about 20
years old, I carefully tested it and it was dead. I never replaced
it.

There's a classic DLV legend about a certain person reaching into
the wrong purse when her cell phone rang and finding a weapon a
bit more powerful than repellent spray. :)

> 18 small notepad?

Sometimes daybook/organizer. More often just a small spiral book.

> 20 pair of nylons/pantyhose ?
> 21 panty/underwear ?

I know that a few people on IRC have referred to what I carry as my
"overnight bag" but I don't carry any clothing changes. :)

> 23 mini flashlight ?

This is the most handy thing there is. It saves me all the time.
Densie got me carrying this some years ago and I don't see how I
ever got along without it.

> 24 snack like a candy bar?

They always melt if I try it. :) (Peeps?) :)

> 26 umbrella ?

Even the smallest ones take up a lot of room. What I've done is to
regularly carry one of those metal triangular hooks on one of the
strap links and hang an umbrella on that. It comes in handy for
other things, such as small bags when shopping and such.

> 31 camera ?

Don't forget film, assuming you use a Real Camera<tm>. :) :)

> 38 ear-rings / rings / bracelets / necklace or jewelry that is not worn.

I very seldom carry what I'm not wearing.

> any more items?

Stack of business cards, both mine and others'. Along with that a few
of those big spring paperclips, for cards and other items that get
loose.

Then there's that accumulation of detritus that always sinks to the
bottom that you have to clean out every so often. :)

You really have a mostly complete list.
