Cesars Palace (was Re: Trip to Las Vegas)

Annie,

Thanks for the comeback. The information on places and behavior in Las
Vegas will be invaluable when we get there.

However, I did not see any information about how T-friendly Caesar's
Palace is. This is where we will be staying while in LV. Does anyone
have any information or experiences to report?

I really would like to know.

I know some of our people (Tina maybe?) stayed there at times, and I
know several of our people, including me, have played there and shopped
in the Forum Shops without incident.

My hunch is that, like most places in Las Vegas, if you pay your bill,
don't trash the place, and act as a lady or gentleman, whichever you
prefer at the time, you should have an uneventful time.

Hi Beth,

As Annie mentioned, I stayed at Caesar's several times in the early and
mid-90's before I ever hooked up with DLV. I haven't been in there
since they constructed those gigantic new towers, so this info may be
out-of-date.

I was always in the hotel section where the elevators let you out near
what I consider the old casino section (near the lobby/registration
area). I could walk a near straight line from the elevators through
this smaller casino area to the main circular driveway area to catch a
cab or pick up my car from valet park.

In the crowded early evening, never a problem leaving Caesar's. The
valet parking guys were always polite and fast. Waiting on-line for a
taxi is always a little more nerve-wracking, but Caesar's always had a
steady flow.

Arriving back at Caesar's at 2 or 3 or 4 or 5 AM and stumbling back
through the casino (usually a little worse for wear), I did occasionally
attract a stare from a dealer as I walked by. There was usually a
security guard at the elevators checking that everyone using them had a
room key. I never had a problem.

I have a vague memory of there being self-park lots at Caesar's, but
that they were so far away as to be unusable.

In those days, I would never have sat down en-femme and gambled at
Caesar's or anywhere else. Although I have gambled en-femme since then,
Caesar's wouldn't be my first choice even today. Gamblers in general
seem aggressive to me, and they seemed even more so at Caesar's. Also,
at least back then, Caesar's seemed to market themselves to
free-spending foreign travelers. This raises the chances for even
more confusion.

Caesar's staff isn't t-friendly, just generally t-oblivious. Sometimes
they were a little more observant. Caesar's had a nice day spa for men
and women (a little pricey) and a very nice men's barber shop with a
girl doing manicures and pedicures in the barber shop (separate location
down the hall from the women's beauty shop). She immediately
recognized my longer nails and manicured accordingly and discreetly
inquired if I wanted clear or color polish. (In those days, I always
chickened out and went with clear.) Great barber too. Get a shave
from him in the late afternoon and your face will never be smoother. I
continued to book appointments there even after I quit staying there,
until 1998, IIRC.

Why did I quit staying at Caesar's? Too expensive. My level of casino
play never qualified me for good comps like it did at Treasure Island
(although the horror stories there would make for a long mailing).

Also, as I learned more about LV and the GLBT community and found shops
and services that were t-friendly, I got services (such as manicures)
much cheaper elsewhere.

Another reason I don't stay at the big casinos (although I'm violating
that rule this time to stay at the Sahara, for my 5th DLV) is that it is
very time-consuming to get in and out of them. I love the simple hotels
were you just walk 50 feet to your car and go. (More on that in a
separate message.)
