[dlv] "Event Headquarters Hotel"

I guess food is an eye of the beholder kind of thing, but last spring I
found the Sahara coffee shop late night service to be slow, indifferent,
and with at least one waiter who insisted on referring to me as "sir."

The veggie burger from previous years was gone and there was nothing
provided on the menu for vegetarians trying to eliminate or greatly
reduce fats from their diets. I was told all of this was due to new
management and gathered that not all of the staff was happy with the
changes.

The Sahara buffet still had a great variety of fresh salad items perfect
for my needs unlike other Las Vegas buffets which seemed to be
competing to see which could offer the most complete Atkins Diet
approved fare.

Believe I had the same waiter[male] at 1:30am, Ginger, but I corrected
him["gently but directly"], so then I had a women waitress sent to my
table. She was great, and I tipped her $20 for an $8 tab. I'm sure
both of us felt good.. and I hope she told the "waiter" ..

Love being "outside the box" in a "polite way"... JoAnn.

Without reservation I continue to endorse Diva Las Vegas as the premier
Transgendered event in the country. In fact I no longer attend Southern
Comfort as I grew bored of the "same ole thing" year after year.

Event Location :

"Lori ? Tell us how you really feel?" The Sahara is a dump.

The service sucks,I would not feed the food to my dog, the rooms are
so-so and the NASCAR Crowd that mainly is attracted to the Sahara.

Personally I'd love to see maybe not an EVENT hotel, but maybe a central
location where more girls would want to stay. Close to the Strip,
affordable, clean and open minded.

It would be nice to have the girls staying in the same hotel not only
for the camaraderie but also to as simple as help zip up your dress, (
or maybe even unzip it )

The first two years I stayed at the Sahara so I speak from some
experience. Last year I stayed at the Boardwalk. The rooms were nice,
the people were nice and I loved the convenience of being close to all
the big casinos. Buffet ? OMG ! Try the buffet at HARRAH'S,

The food there is awesome and costs about $8-$10. One thing is for
certain.....I'm looking forward to DLV 2005.

Thank you! It's feedback like this that lets us know that our efforts
are appreciated, and that we are doing something right. :)

The conventions are, unfortunately, very predictable and repetitive.

They do, however, often times give people in our community their first
significant exposure to life out of the individual closet, which is a
Good Thing<tm>.

Yes, in the past there were movements to make DLV more like the mainline
t* conventions, but that seems to have died out, and those with us now
appear to value DLV for the singularity it is.

I think your idea is what Michelle had in mind with the proposal, and
that's what she means by "Event Hotel". I know she did not intend to
propose any kind of central activity location, as might be inferred by
the "Event Hotel" name.

Ok, help me understand a few things here.

Maybe I have some wrong perceptions.

When I'm at DLV (or Pinkfest or Fall Harvest or anything like that) I
spend very little time in the hotel room, except for sleeping, changing,
cleaning up, checking e-mail, making a few phone calls, etc. I spend
almost no time in the hallways or in others' rooms. I get the impression
that most of the others use their rooms about the same.

Is this not the case for the others? Do I just "not get it" here? Am I
missing something? Please speak freely if you have to.

This next question is really for everybody ... over the years at DLV,
we've had groups of our people concentrated in various hotels, including
Imperial Palace, Sahara, San Remo, even Las Vegas Hilton. Has there been
any significant social interaction on the hotel floors?

What you've mentioned ("... would be nice to have the girls staying in
the same hotel ...") has been a recurring theme almost as long as DLV
has been around, sometimes qualified with reserved floors, rooms blocked
off, and yes, those proverbial group rates.

Is it more of a "dorm" environment that people are after?

I admit that one thing I've tried to have us be cautious about is any
incentive to have our people stay in the room/floor/hotel/etc. as
opposed to getting out and participating in the activities.

Those who want more of a centralized place to stay, please help me (and
some of the others) better understand the logic and ideas.

Yep...

What I had in mind was ONE definitive / named / specific hotel that
newbies and those particularly interested in the camaraderie of others
could go to and be sure there would others there. Apart from perhaps the
"Lunch with Ginger" type activities I really didn't see it having that
many activities.

I think that's missing the point. Its more like..."lets all meet in the
bar at 7:00 before we go to....." or "lets have breakfast in Cafe
together at.....". Of course since I neither stay at hotels nor lurk in
corridors of said establishments I can't truly absolutely confirm that
others do actually do these things!

On the face of it there seems to be too issues roaming around at the
moment:

A) Should there be ONE key / prime / CHOOSEN hotel as well as other
choices for the more / less discerning

and

B) Should the Sahara be that hotel. I suppose this could actually be
"what hotel should this be..."

As to item A) I personally do care since I usually stay in a time share
/ apartment anyway and as for B) well I agree with some recent comments
regarding is lack of quality in accommodation, culinary arts and general
attitude of other quests!

Finally, I usually don't just use my room for sleeping in. It usually
becomes my office away from home since most of my work is contract stuff
and my clients expect me to work for them even when partying in drag
halfway round the world... Although admittedly they probably aren't made
too aware of either the partying or dray components of my travels!

My thoughts for this fifth day of September 2004...!
