I agree, why do the vacation to a place known for sucking money out of
you wallet while it's still in your purse, when you don't have two dimes
to rub together and a car full of kids. But people do dumb things in
the name of family.

But Circus Circus went in to the Las Vegas market in the late 70's,
early 80's??? (I'll leave it to the DLV - History Team for the details),
followed by T.I., Excal and the others as the green flowed in. They
marketed extensively to families and invested a lot in "family"
attractions and still draw quite well it seems. It's just been the
last couple of years that the L.V. Convention Bureau has been turning
their marketing to Adults once again ("What Happens in Vegas, Stays on
the DLV Website" or something like that).

I think we need to plan on having potential encounters with families for
a long time to come. We have to assume that kids are just part of
Mainstream when it shows up on an activity description. Just like
redneck, college girl, cop, politician or chronic drunk are all part of
the same "mainstream" population. They are all there and we just need to
adjust our situational awareness accordingly.

That being said, I don't know what I would have done if there had been a
school tour at the same time we were visiting the art museum. Be
flexible I guess.

Las Vegas is steeped in history of the mob and shysters running it. The
new wave is the takeover of the corporations that want to legitimize its
existence. Yes, the same corporations that, if given half the chance,
would do it all over again. But, remember these corporations bailed it
out over the years as the government tried to put it asunder!
