Clothing options

Postby JulieAnn3 » Thu Jan 14, 2016 10:42 pm

This is going to be my first ever transgender trip. So I just want to make sure about what to bring for the different events. Do most of the ladies wear shorts and pants to the daytime public events? A little more dressy at night? Is there a big event to wear an party dress? I have to leave on Friday so I might miss that last meeting on Friday night.

Any help or suggestions would be great. I have read the dressing info but I wasn't sure about each event.

thanks,

The final detailed schedule, which will come out in the Final Attendee Information, gives detailed dress suggestions for each activity. You'll usually have quite a bit of leeway. For example, the suggestion for our Welcome Celebration will probably read something like "Casual to formal, boymode or girlmode."

Yes, in general, most of the people dress more casually during the daytime and more dressy in the evening. For the two planned major gatherings you can "dress to the twos or dress to the nines" depending on your style and mood at the time.

There will be a few activities where dressing in a more exotic manner will be appropriate and encouraged.

I don't believe I've been to Vegas in late March and early April... so, what is the weather like? This will have a big impact on the clothing I bring.

Any suggestions for a day by day plan for what to bring... both day and night.

Oh, and not knowing what is scheduled for the evenings yet, what kind of evening dress is suggested?

Here are a few notes and references which may help you.

Statistically, the high temperature for April 1 has been 74.3 average and the low has been 52.8. Those are the averages and the highs could be in the 80s and the lows could be in the 40s. Over the years we've mostly had good weather but we've seen a few very hot days and a few cold and windy evenings. One year I remember that we got complaints about it being cold and windy on the golf course.

One thing to keep in mind is that most (not all) of what you'll do will be inside, in 68-75-ish temperatures.

I'm going to suggest reading a few articles. These are somewhat dated and could use a good work-over but they are still relevant. The first is on dressing and the weather:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/mydlv/blogs ... e-weather/

This was written when our event was usually held in the middle of April, so mentally subtract a few degrees as you read along. :)

Another is the visual dress notes page:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/mydlv/blogs ... ess-notes/

It's about a decade old but still relevant and covers casual, golf, sightseeing, dressy, and even touches on the exotic.

The best examples of dress for our event can be found on the various follow-up pages for recent years. I would suggest starting here:

http://divalas.vegas/dlv2015n/

The pages for Activities, On the Town, People, and Dining will give you many many examples of dress for our various activities.

Hope this helps. :)

Julie.

Take a look at this the day before you fly out. It will give you a
better idea of what to expect weather wise.

Las Vegas, Nevada 7 Day Weather Forecast - The Weather Network

You will not need boots or warm shoes either but you might want to
consider 1 pair of flat walking shoes. Vegas is all about walking. Take
it from someone who has been there a lot as a tourist. this will save
you on airline weight requirements due to slinky shoes not weighing
much.

Late March is not a bad time to go to LV but it can be a little cool at
night so take along an evening jacket or two just in case.

Huggers. Katie

If I might make just one addition, I think about three years ago, I was
caught in a "cats and dogs" rainstorm in Vegas, and was totally
unprepared (it's the desert, right ??).

So you may want to check the forecast close to the time, and pack an
umbrella if you think you might need it - Delaney

Julie,

If you want to wear nicer heeled shoes you might want to bring one of
those nice big purses with you and put a pair of flats in side to bring
out later if you find you need a break from the heels. Then, there are
always shorter heels to walk in and still remain stylish instead of
looking like a regular tourista!
