Taste Food & Wine

Postby laurawright » Sat Jan 24, 2015 1:33 pm

I recently met Phoebe Snowe who runs Taste Food & Wine in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago. Taste Food & Wine is a specialty grocery store and wine shop which hosts wine tastings every Monday and Friday from 5:00 to 8:00. I think it would be a great place to stop for Pinkfest on Friday night before dinner. It is on Jarvis right across from the Metra stop. It is pretty easily accessible from the Lakeview area. It is only about five miles north of Big Chicks. There are several nice restaurants near by to follow a wine tasting, and it would be easy to end up with the bars in Boystown Friday night.

I think it would be a great add to the schedule, something to think about...

This isn't very far (about 1.5 miles north) from the Raven Theater,
which has been recommended in the past as a friendly venue with which
one of the Pinkfest attendees has a relationship. There are also bars in
the area, especially around Clark & Devon, which would be appropriate
after.

An entire evening of activities in the area could well be a realistic
possibility.

I agree Amanda. Rogers Park has a growing LGBT friendly cluster of businesses. I like the neighborhood. There is a lot to do. http://articles.redeyechicago.com/2012- ... ogers-park
There are even trans-owned businesses popping up. Brandon Byxbe just opened the Amazing Kale Burger this fall.

Between the wine tasting, the theatre, the restaurants and bars, Rogers Park could make for a full day, and it is easily accessed from the Red line, Metra, and Pace.

I have been a member of the Raven theatre community for several years.
They have treated me very well

Rene JAMES has also taken several ladies to performances there. Renee
even had a reception in the lobby before the performance

I can make arrangements for some of the cast to come out after the
performance

As soon as I get the 2025-2016 schedule I Will get it to you to see if
it fits your schedule

Stefani C, thank you for helping to coordinate this!
At the moment, it appears the best date might be for Friday, October 16, 2015.
Phoebe Snowe is planning a regular wine tasting at that time, so maybe everything will fall into place.
Your help is much appreciated!

I attended a regular wine tasting at Taste Food & Wine this evening, hosted by Phoebe Snowe! I really enjoyed the wine and the people. I think it would be a great idea for Pinkfest in October, especially with all the surrounding businesses and restaurants like Luzzat http://www.yelp.com/biz/luzzat-chicago, R Public House, Towbar, the Raven, and the Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre! It is a very LGBT friendly spot. I met both the proprietors of the R Public House http://rpublichouse.com/ and Towbar http://www.towbarchicago.com at the wine tasting. Phoebe said she could arrange a special wine tasting for Pinkfest on a Thursday or Saturday if it fits the schedule and if there is interest. She said we could have dinner at one of the restaurants on the block, but we would also be welcome to order pizza from R Public House (wood fire/brick oven) next door and bring it back to Taste Food & Wine. Ginger might be happy to know that both R Public House and Towbar have the Amazing Kale Burger on the menu. The owner of Towbar told me that Brandon Byxbe ( transman , entrepreneur, and creator of the amazing Kale Burger) was formerly the chef at Towbar prior to opening his own place on Howard. Also Phoebe recommended the very nearby Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre http://www.theoubique.org/ for entertainment in case the schedule does not pan out with the Raven Theatre. It is just a short walk away. The Jarvis Red Line Station is only about 100 feet away from Taste Food & Wine, so it is very accessible from downtown.
