Annie what is the weather generally like when we will be in Chicago. I
am a Texas girl and may need to increase my wardrobe with some warmer
clothes.

It's a crapshoot and it varies quite a bit. We've seen it snow one year, and we've seen it uncomfortably warm one year. Usually it's cool but not cold, and occasionally windy and rainy.

Average highs will be in the 50s or low 60s and average lows will be in the 40s. "Cooler by the lake."

A sweater or light jacket is usually all that's required. Only one year did I need to pack a heavier coat.

My suggestion is to check the 10-day forecast as the date approaches.

"Tonight's forecast, dark, turning dark to moderately light toward morning ..."

October weather in Illinois can vary greatly. It could be upper 70's
during the day and cooling to mid 50's at night or it could go the other
way and be cold and even snowing. Typically it would be low to mid 60's
during the day with overnight temps dropping to low 40's to upper 30's.
Definitely you will need a jacket or heavier coat while out and about.

I agree. Pack some sweaters and a warm coat at least. Dress in layers.

You can always buy a hat, scarf, gloves, or a cute pair of boots in
Chicago, although not likely to be really necessary. North Michigan
Avenue is some of the best shopping anywhere. If you have never been to
the old Marshall Field's in the loop on State Street - now Macy's - it
is a must see.
