Call For Photos:

Call For Photographs:

We take pride in the fact that Diva Las Vegas has the most complete set
of photographs of any of the major TG events, several times over, going
all the way back to our very early years.

At last count we had over 18,000 photos of previous events, covering the
years of 1997 through 2013!

We know that many of you took photos during the event and we're asking
all of you to please send in your photos to be part of this ever-growing
collection.
. . . . .

Here's the way this works:

We call for photos. That's what we're doing now. The Call For Photos
will remain open until mid June. A two-week warning will be given before
it closes.

We place the submitted photos into a special staging and reviewing area
on the web. Everyone who attended can then look these over, and everyone
gets a reasonable number of "NO WAY" requests on the photos in which
they appear.

The links to the staging area will be sent out to all who attended just
as soon as our final roster is complete.

As we did last year, we'll be automating the removal process. No longer
will you have to request removal by e-mail. There will be a "Mark this
photo for removal" button on each displayed photo.

We also have a "Like" button, for photos you definitely want to see
included in the final pages!

The review period will remain open until late July. There will be a
two-week warning when this is about to close.

Once the photos are reviewed by those who may be in them, we will then
assemble the finished DLV 2014 follow-up photo pages on our web site.
. . . . .

Here are the ways you can submit photos:

1. By e-mail, attach using any sane method or format. Send photos to the
main DLV address: dlv@geekbabe.com

You may simply reply to this mailing and attach photos.

2. By FTP. Faster and cleaner than by e-mail. Please let us know if you
want to submit photos by FTP and we'll get you the login credentials.

3. By snailmail. CDs, DVDs, floppies, thumb drive or hardcopy prints,
any sane format. If you want these back, please say so and we'll cover
the return postage. Write in for the mailing address.

4. Via the MyDLV Gallery. Upload them to your MyDLV Gallery and send us
a note that "Photos X Y and Z are intended for the main DLV pages" or to
that effect.
. . . . .

Now, as for size and format ...

We'll take them any way you want to send them, but a good sane size
would be around 800-1500 pixels on the long side, .jpg, medium quality,
72dpi. We do have scripts to normalize the size, brightness, and
contrast.

Zip or tar files are not necessary. We'll take them that way if you want
to send them that way, but it's not required.

If you don't know anything about pixels, zips, and tars, don't worry,
just send them in. :)

If you wish to send prints instead of digital files, plain old drug
store mini-lab prints are fine and, unless they are unusually dark,
they scan and present quite well on the web.

Please don't send in any photos which are altered, such as faces
blurred, eyes blacked out, etc., nor those which are captioned,
composites, or fakes.
. . . . . .

When will the photos be posted?

This is our most frequently asked question in the summer months, and in
reality, we won't know the exact day, hour, minute, and second that the
photos will be posted until very shortly before it actually happens.

We'll try this year to move things along as quickly as we can, as this
is something that many of you eagerly wait.

If you want to help move things along, you can do so in the following
ways:

1. Look over the "Missing In Action" list below. (YES, this *IS* very
relevant to the Call For Photos.) If your name is listed, please reply
stating if you did or did not actually attend DLV this year, and if you
did attend, what was the first activity that you actually attended. We
will not be able to send out staging area links until stragglers are
accounted for.

2. Get your photos in promptly. The sooner the better.

3. Review the staging area frequently. If there are photos you want
taken down, mark them for removal.

4. DO NOT RESEND without being told to do so. If you don't see your
photos in the staging area, ask why. Don't resend "just to be sure", as
tracking down and removing duplicate photos is very time-consuming and
does delay things as far as getting the final pages on line.

5. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions list before sending in
questions about the photos. The main DLV FAQ page is on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/faq/

The direct link to the "photo" section of the FAQ is here:

Missing in action:

Thanks to all who have reported sightings or reported themselves as
present or absent.

We want to be sure that everyone who attended has been counted.

Please look over the following list. If your name is NOT on it, you
don't need to do anything.

If your name IS on it, and you DID attend, please let us know.

Just reply to this mailing, and please give us the first DLV activity
you attended so we can mark that as your actual date of arrival.

If you should find your name on this list and you did attend, please
don't panic and please don't get upset. It may be something like a
clerical error, an oversight, or it may be that you did not get an
opportunity to formally check in. Please let us know that you were
indeed in attendance.

Also, if you indeed sighted any of these individuals at DLV, a note to
that effect will be appreciated.

Things to come:

Our 2014 Diva Las Vegas event has concluded and we're now in the wrap-up
phase of the cycle.

Here's a run-down of the things to come over the next few months:

* Our Call For Photos has just opened and it will continue through mid
June.

* Our DLV 2014 Attendee Survey will close April 30th. (just over a week
away) and the results will be posted on the DLV Discussion Forum shortly
after.

* In May, we will be forming the ORG group (Volunteer Group) for the
2014-2015 year. Those who answered the Call For Volunteers can expect an
introductory mailing sometime during May. We'll be doing the final DLV
2014 follow-up, performing some housekeeping, such as electing the "even
year" Administrative Committee representative, and moving forward with
the planning of DLV 2015.

* The Call For Photos will end in mid June. The staging area will remain
open until mid July for those who attended DLV 2014.

* Plans are for the final DLV 2014 follow-up pages to be placed on line
sometime in August 2014.

* Dates for DLV 2015 will be decided upon and announced in September
of 2014.

* Pinkfest 2014 will happen from Wednesday, October 8 through Sunday,
October 12 in Chicago. http://www.geekbabe.com/pinkfest/

* In November of 2014 we will announce our suggested hotels for DLV
2015.

Survey reminder:

Our DLV 2014 Attendee Survey will close on April 30.

If you attended DLV 2014 and have not taken this, please visit the
following URL at your earliest convenience and do so.

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2014survey.html

The survey will take about 5 minutes to complete and will give us very
valuable feedback about our 2014 event.

If you've already taken the survey and wish to make additional verbal
comments, please re-visit the above url, leave all of the buttons and
checkboxes blank, and go directly to the comment section at the end of
the page.

Survey results will be posted shortly after the first of May.

Call For Volunteers continues:

Diva Las Vegas runs entirely on volunteer help!

All of those great times you just had were made possible because
somebody stepped forward and made those activities happen!

Planning and organization of DLV is done mostly on line via e-mail. It's
interactive and participatory. Volunteers form what we call the DLVORG
group.

The DLVORG group is not at all closed or exclusive. With very rare
exception, it's open to anybody who expresses interest in helping out
with DLV.

DLVORG people participate at the decision-making level, the organizing
and planning level, and at the nuts-and-bolts level.

All of the activities were "adopted" by one or more of our volunteers,
who took the necessary steps to make them happen.

If you want to do your part to make a great thing even better, to give
back what DLV has given to you, and help to run an event that has
literally changed lives, please step forward!

(Those of you who filled out the volunteer form as part of the DLV
follow-up survey do not need to take any more action.)

To volunteer, please do one of the following:

Visit the URL:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlvvol1.html

Fill out the screen and check a few things, click SUBMIT, and
you're on your way!

Alternatively, simply send a brief e-mail message to:

dlvorg@geekbabe.com

. and state you wish to volunteer. (Or, just reply to this mailing
and state that you wish to volunteer.)

Please include a sentence or two stating how you are most interested in
helping out. Anything general or specific ("I wanna plan a sky-diving
party.", or "I'll help any way I can.") is perfectly fine. Anything from
one sentence to a book length manuscript will be ok. :)

We're not asking for any kind of a major time or effort commitment on
your part. All we ask is that each volunteer organize, or assist with
one activity. That's it.

If you're a bit shy, that's fine. We'll find something for you where you
don't have to go cold-calling vendors or anything like that.

And yes, out-of-the-box thinking is encouraged! As you know, we're not
limited to the things that traditionally happen at TG events, and we're
certainly not limited to those which have already happened at DLV.

Thanks in advance to all who have volunteered to help out with DLV!

Reminder - Please rate our vendors:

Since we first called for vendor ratings this year, a total of 26 new
vendors have been added to our Big List! This brings us now to a total
of 165 total vendors, merchants, and venues listed on the Big List.

Big thanks go out to those who took the time to rate and comment on our
vendors, and particularly to those who added additional vendors to the
list. We currently have 491 ratings on file and 341 comments, positive,
negative, and neutral, on file.

If you haven't yet rated our vendors this year, please take a few
minutes and do so. The Big List is on line here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/vendors/

If there's a vendor missing, please follow the link and add it.
