Happy Holidays:

Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy New Year from the DLV
organizers to you and yours!
. . . . .

There was no November general mailing. Last general DLV mailing was in
mid October. Unless something unexpected happens, this will be the last
DLV general mailing of 2004. A rather large "kick-off" mailing for DLV
2005 will be sent shortly after the first of the year.
. . . . .

Oops! Some of you on the main DLV list may have received an invertent
copy of the DLV Organizers list (DLVORG) a few weeks ago. Sorry for
cluttering up your mailbox. Human error. I launched the batch on the
wrong list. Sorry. :)

Suggested hotels:

The DLV Organizers Group has just voted on the hotels to suggest for
attendees of DLV 2005. These are, in alphabetical order:

Boardwalk (south Strip)
Imperial Palace (center Strip)
Palace Station (off-Strip, west Sahara)
Sahara (north Strip)

These suggested hotels are just that, suggestions, based on experiences
over the past 8 years of DLV. Everybody is responsible for making their
own lodging arrangements. There are no group rates (history has shown
that the "special group rates" offered to groups of our size for hotels
in Las Vegas will be higher than those available to the general public)
and no blocked-off rooms, etc. There's no requirement that you stay in
our suggested hotels for DLV, and our people have stayed in countless
places all over the Las Vegas area.

The ORG group also voted down a proposal to recommend one hotel above
all others as our official "Event Hotel" as well as a proposal to
suggest one and only one hotel for DLV 2005.

Therefore you can consider all suggested hotels to be suggested equally
for DLV 2005.
. . . . .

Brief descriptions are as follows (in alphabetical order):

Boardwalk: A smaller casino-hotel on the south Strip between the Jockey
Club and the Monte Carlo. Now owned by MGM-Mirage and destined for a
total renovation as part of a large project in a few years, but the
property will be operating normally during the DLV 2005 period. Smaller
casino, several restaurants.

. . . . .

Imperial Palace: This is a midscale casino-hotel right in the heart of
the center Strip. The IP has been used by DLV attendees each and every
year since 1997. Room rates at the IP tend to be slightly lower than the
other hotels in the vicinity. IP does offer "garden" (motel style) rooms
as well as hotel tower rooms, for those who don't want to traverse a
hotel lobby or casino when entering or exiting. Good-size casino, several
restaurants, two buffets, and a shopping arcade.

. . . . .

Palace Station: Palace Station is the first of the many "Station"
casinos. It's located on Sahara Avenue about a mile west of the Strip.
Palace Station has smaller "garden" buildings for those who do not want
to stay in a hotel tower and enter/exit via a lobby or casino. Buffet is
very "ok" and the Italian restaurant is very good. We've had DLV people
stay, play, and eat at Palace Station for several years with no issues
or problems. Palace Station will most likely be the least expensive of
our suggested hotels for DLV 2005.

. . . . .

Sahara: This is a legacy Las Vegas casino-hotel on the north Strip which
offers very good rooms for prices that are lower than other comparable
hotels in that area. The Sahara has been a favorite of DLV since 1999.
Large casino, of course, several restaurants including a 24 hour coffee
shop with late-nite specials, and a very "ok" buffet. Sahara will most
likely not be the least expensive for DLV 2005, but it will most likely
come in a close second.

Things to come:

Shortly after the first of 2005 we will begin express re-registration
for those who have attended DLV in the past. If you still have the same
e-mail address as when you last attended, you will get a personalized
mailing with a clickable link to your own re-registration screen. Just a
few questions and you will be all set.

In February we will begin pre-registration for members of this mailing
list. Stay tuned for details. General registration will open in March.

Although we're still 5 months away from DLV, our daily schedule is taking
shape quite nicely.

New for DLV 2005 will be things such as an expanded Night Of The Soiled
Doves II, Ballroom Dancing, a special Eating Out Night, side trip to
Death Valley, Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden, a daily Walk off Your
Lunch (with or without Ginger) and more!

Sure-fire winners will be repeated, such as the Lake Mead Boat Tour, Air
Tours, Art Tour, Pity Party, Limo Tour, Shopping Excursion, Garden
Party, and others.

And yes, there will be plenty of that Quality Social Time<tm> which
our people keep telling us they want more of.

Several new bars and clubs have recently opened or will open shortly,
one of which appears to be destined to be a definite favorite of the DLV
crowd.

We will be featuring our Big Sister Program this year, which will give
personal support and encouragement to those who might be new or a bit
uneasy about attending.

We've expanded the Roommate Matching Program, with on-line sign-up and a
Roommate Coordinator who will be spending her primary DLV effort toward
this program.

Once again, ride sharing will be coordinated for those staying at our
suggested hotels.
