Only 16 days left, gang!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Two weeks:
Getting very close!
Welcome to those who just joined the list. Yes, you can still get in on
the fun if you act quickly. If you will come by air, book now. The 14
day advance fares expire within the next few days. This will be a very
significant price hike.
America West is still showing $209 round trip BWI<->LAS. (Margeth: HINT!)
If you're having trouble finding a room, or a room at a good price, from
now on, you should probably contact the Las Vegas Reservations Assistance
line at 1-800-332-5333. This is operated by the Las Vegas Convention and
Visitors Authority (the people who run the Las Vegas Convention Center).
They will know who has rooms.
If you have any questions or concerns, please e-mail them to this list.

Drivers and riders:
We're gonna have the largest DLV group ever, and we want to be sure
everybody gets to the activities on time and without hassle. We've
got a number of volunteer drivers this year, most who are based at
the two hotels where most of the DLV people are staying.
We would like to ask all drivers to please be sure your hotel and dates
are correct on your registration, and that you have "Yes, definitely"
indicated on the will-attend field. Everybody should have received a
confirming copy of their registration last week.
Those of you who will be needing rides, please be sure your dates and
hotel are correct.
You can make updates to your registration at:
http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/update.html
We will be preparing some match-up lists of drivers and riders the week
before DLV and it will be most helpful if the info is accurate. Thanks.

Late-nite gaming:
>>Both Sahara and Imperial Palace are heavily slot oriented, but they do
>>have good size pit areas.
>Since the Sahara has a current rating from Bill Here as having blackjack
>limitations unfavorable to the player, it sounds like the Imperial
>Palace just might be the best choice, since its table games sound at
>least adequate. And, it has the added advantage of being the hotel
>where many DLV girls are staying, so it will really be convenient for
>them. Hopefully, that will help get a big turnout.
>FYI, I hope non-gamblers will come to this. You can have fun gambling
>as a girl for just $20 by placing very small $1 or $2 bets (assumes
>non-outrageious limits at the IP). Many DLV girls are experienced
>gamblers who would be glad to advise you on how to play.
>Annie, I think that you've stayed and played at the IP many times. How
>do you rate the play there, and what type of limits do you recall?
Actually I've only stayed there once, but many DLV people have stayed
there and I've hung around there at least some of the time each year.
I'm mostly a slot and VP person (yeah, yeah, chick games, I know ... :)
but I do occasionally do the tables.
Don't quote me on this. It's been a while but this should be in the
ballpark. I *THINK* craps is still $2 and BJ, excuse me, 21, is still $3
at some tables with others having higher minima. I don't know the exact
rules, but I'm sure it's dealer must stand on 17. I think they're double
on anything no double after split, late surrender, but I'm not positive.
A few of our people had an all-niter at the craps table there one year.
I think I saw $2 roulette (yeah yeah, another chick game) but I'm not
certain.
As for VP, they have (had) plenty of .25 full-pay 9/6 JB, 8/5
progressive, as well as tons of double-bonus and variants.
Yes, they have Keno (a game for those who don't know math) and the
sucker wheel. <vbfg>
Unless there are any objections, I'm gonna pencil in IP for this activity
on the schedule.

Golf:
Wheels are turning, but no definite plans have been made as of this time.
If you're interested in golfing with the DLV girls (and guys) we have a
separate mailing list for golf discussion and planning. Just hit reply
and say you want to be added to the golf list.
Monday morning is being discussed as a possibility for golf.

Western:
>Do you know anything about the Western Casino and Hotel?
Yes, unfortunately.
>Is it decent?
No!
>What is it like?
It's a major rathole. Stay away, seriously.
>They advertize some real good rates, Budget Rates for Luxury Rooms.
>Downtown Fremont Experience, in the heart of the action.
This is false advertising, period. It's several blocks, including a few
very scary ones, from the Fremont Street Experience. This is one place
where I would not feel safe.
I will say this, if you're on a very tight budget, it's probably quite a
bit better than many of the roach motels between downtown and the Strip.
It shares ownership and management (Gaughan) with the El Cortez, the
Plaza, and a few others, although I don't see them tooting their horn
about it. :)
Hmmm ... Didn't we have this conversation before?
If you want a cheaper place downtown, El Cortez or Plaza will not be
too much higher and much cleaner/safer. Both are past their prime, but
still decent. Gold Spike is said to be not too bad, and very cheap.

Roommate Clearing House (updated):
This will be an ongoing section whenever there are current roommate
items. Items will be posted until we get a note to remove them. If you
are interested in sharing a room with the individual(s) below, please
contact directly using the e-mail address(es) below.
Please keep in mind that any roommate arrangements are a private matter
between the cooperating parties only. DLV organizers and volunteers are
not responsible if there are problems or if things don't work out. We do
absolutely no screening of roommate candidates. Everything is at the
risk of those involved.
