About this mailing:

We continue with feedback and such. This mailing has a request for some
memorable anecdotes, yet another e-mail directory reminder (thanks to
those who have sent in, but there are more out there who want this, I
know) and some photo related items.

I would also like to get some of the event feedback and discussion started
and I'm enclosing my event summary notes.

Thanks for all the photos that have come in. I've started scanning mine,
and some may be on line tonite. All photos are now in a staging area at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/dlv2001/staging/

First 2, maybe 3 directories are now populated.

Still needed: Pictures of golf.

Memorable moments:

I would like to devote one followup mailing to reflections of DLV that
you think are memorable. Hopefully happy moments, but mixed or sad ones
if you choose to share.

Please take a few minutes, think back about what sticks in your mind
most about DLV, and share it with everybody by typing up a brief
summary and send it in to the list. (dlv@geekbabe.com)

When we get a collection in, we'll send them out. Thanks, gang. :)

My activity comments:

Here's my blow-by-blow summary. Comments?

>Wednesday: 5:00pm Pre-pre-dlv dinner Milano's

As I figured we would, we filled almost all the tables in the place.
Great food. I heard several people went back at one time or another.
I had lunch there on Saturday, just before I left for the airport.

It's a great place, very reasonable, and they've always treated us
very well.

>May 2 7:30pm Pre-DLV get-together LV Lounge

Good turnout. See my notes about the LV Lounge (most likely in a later
mailing). Quite a few went to Goodtimes when the dancers and loud music
started. One report of problems finding the place.

>Thursday: 3:00pm Shopping, dinner, more shopping

Good turnout for a daylight activity. We overloaded the parking lot at
Vegas Girl. Ran out of time and skipped two of the planned stops, those
being Attic and Boulevard Mall.

We did hit Vegas Girl, Bare Essentials, and Belz Mall. Quite a few ate
at the two food courts at Belz. Everybody kinda scattered to the winds
and shopped alone or in small groups. I know somebody kinda sneaked up
on me and made some smartass comments when I was rummaging thru a box
of unmentionables at a closeout sale. :)

No problems were reported except the drain on bank accounts.

There was some confusion on who was riding with whom when we left Belz.

>May 3 8:00pm Keys (piano bar) Keys Lounge

Good turnout. Great entertainment. Time Warp practice. :) Keys has
always been a favorite of the group. The atmosphere at Keys was a bit
more lively than usual that nite. :)

>Friday: 10:00am Air tours Henderson Airport

Of all the activities, I think I heard the most raves about this one.
Again, thanks and a big round of applause to Gina and Densie for doing
this. {clap-clap-clap whistle clap-clap}

>May 4 1:00pm Matinee movie Location TBA

Didn't happen. Volunteer coordinator was a no-show. (Update: family
emergency.)

I didn't hear any complaints of people not having enough to do, though. :)

> 5:00pm Dinner Sahara Buffet

Again, great turnout for a daylight activity. Most followed the
suggestion to dress casually, but some did not and there were some
comments about it.

I heard a couple complaints about the food. I didn't think it was bad,
but I'm not everybody. Let's put it this way, I didn't eat anything that
evening that was really memorable, but again, I didn't have anything
that was memorably bad. I was staying at the Sahara, and I ate there at
the buffet many times, both alone and with others. It certainly ain't
Haute Cuisine, but I didn't think it was bad overall.

> 7:30pm Welcome gathering Goodtimes

As usual, we had a great turnout for this. We're definitely outgrowing
the photo shoot area, though. Nothing but good comments I've heard about
this. Somebody said Goodtimes was too dark and smoky, but I did not
notice that.

> 11:00pm Dance Night Gipsy, et. al.

I didn't go (ZZZzzzzz!), but those who did reported a great time.

> 2:00am Sat Late Night Gaming Imperial Palace

Again, I didn't go. I heard about one financial bath, though. :(

>Saturday: 12:00n Shopping and Hopping Start at Paris

Low turnout. Don't know if people were tired from the nite before, not
interested (most t* people I know >LOVE< shopping), or uneasy of the
daylight exposure. One person who was late had trouble finding the
group.

We did some passing exercises with one of the ladies who came. I would
score her at 90-95% in the casino and the mall and 80-85% in (pardon the
expression) broad daylight. :)

The staff at Victoria's Secret in the mall was cool, and, of course,
pushed their latest offering.

(They say that Victoria's Secret is what's really between her legs. :)

Ditto for the staff at Discovery Channel.

One case of very sore ankles from somebody who decided to walk back (to
the Sahara) instead of riding back. A casino on the Strip can appear to
be deceptively close, when indeed it's a major hike.

>May 5 8:30pm Kenny Kerr And Friends Frontier

Great turnout (had a few more than on the latest headcount), even though
two missed it due to some time issues. Show was very good (IMAO)
although it started out a bit weak (again, IMAO) it built up steam as
it went along.

We had front-center seats, and the staff was amazingly cool, especially
in accommodating more people at the last minute.

> Midnite Rocky Horror Picture Show Paradise 6

Bigger turnout for this than previous DLV's, but the local cast
performance was lacking, unfortunately.

They (Divine Decadance) are capable of a MUCH better show. (Ha! I'VE
SEEN IT!) They had a guest Frank. KT, who normally does a very good
Frank did Janet, and, IMAO, that did not work. The person who did
Columbia normally does Magenta, again, somewhat lacking. The (new?,
guest?) MC behaved like some 17 year old virgin-last-week-on-crank,
yelling lines out of sequence and trying to get in the last word. Yeah I
know, Bitch Bitch Bitch. :)

Somebody who is in contact with them is gonna pass this on, hopefully
it will be taken as constructive criticism.

> After Barhopping

ZZZZzzzzzzz!

>Sunday: Morn Air tours (tentative)

Didn't happen. This was scheduled for overflow.

>May 6 1:00pm Dam tour

Most excellent. Best one we've had. Super turnout, and even a few
"civilians" tagged along. Thanks again, Bob! One misunderstanding about
the dress code for this event.

As some of you know, Bob will be retiring before the next DLV, so this
was the last time for this highly personalized tour. Thanks again, Bob,
for all your support over the years.

> 10:00pm Folies Bergere Tropicana

Excellent show! Longest running production show in the world, and still
fast-paced and up to date. Turnout was a bit lower than I had expected,
and I assume this was partly due to the hoop-jumping requirement.

We had excellent seats, thanks to Tina. ({in unison} "Thanks, Tina!")

Just before, and during the first few days of DLV, there was a movement
to get a second group reservation in. This did not happen.

> 11:30pm Limo Tour of Strip Tropicana entrance

Looking back, this has to be my favorite activity this year. At first, I
thought 3 hours might drag on, but it seemed like it was over just after
it started. Stopped at the Del Mar for a photo-op (a limo pulling into
that place is quite out of character), likewise downtown at the Four
Queens for another photo op (think about it ...). I thought that wino
was gonna follow me all the way back to the Sahara. :)

>Monday: 10:00am Side trip - Rhyolite

Didn't happen. Those who showed up decided to go shopping instead. Went
to the mall down at Stateline (Primm).

>May 7 8:00pm Farewell get-together LV Lounge

Best turnout yet for an after-DLV activity. Most of the crowd split
shortly after the loud music and dancers started.

One of the people I was riding with came up to me and said "This place
is a slut house, let's get outa here." Some went over to Keys. I and
some others went back to the Sahara, played a bit, and then went for
breakfast.

Vetoing photographs:

For those of you who want to be excluded from the photos posted on the DLV
pages, here's what I'm asking you to do. I know this is a hoop to jump
thru, but this will assure everybody gets what they want.

I know a couple people have written saying don't include pics of me.
That's fine, if I recognize everybody, which I will probably not, given
the various changes in looks and the like.

Here's the procedure I would like everybody to use:

1. Wait a week or so. We won't have the complete set of candidate photos
until that time. I'll give a "call for veto" as soon as it looks like we
have a mostly complete set. I will give a "last call for veto" before I
move any of them to a public area.

2. Look over the complete set of candidate photos. Make a note of those
which you do not wish to see posted on the web.

3. Send in a note listing the file names, and which person you are in
each, even if you think I will identify you by sight. An example might
be "page3/dlv029d.jpg I am the second person from the right. Please
do not use."

4. View the finished pages when they are done to be sure those you do
not want there do not appear.

I would also ask that you please do not pass on the URL of the staging
area to anybody not on this list.

Thanks for your cooperation on all of this.
