Call For Photos:

Yes, there were many cameras with us at DLV. We want to
invite all who took photos to let them be part of the DLV
2010 follow-up pages on the web.

We take pride in the fact that Diva Las Vegas has the most
complete set of photographs of any of the major TG events,
going all the way back to our very early years.
. . . . .

Here's the way this works:

We call for photos. That's what we're doing now. The Call
For Photos will remain open until around July 1. A two-week
warning will be given before it closes.

We place the submitted photos into a special staging and
reviewing area on the web. Everyone who attended can then
look these over, and everyone gets a reasonable number of
"NO WAY" requests on the photos in which they appear.

The review period will remain open at least until mid
August, and there will be a two-week warning when this
is about to close.

Once the photos are reviewed by those who may be in them,
we will then begin to assemble the finished DLV 2010
follow-up photo pages on our web site.
. . . . .

Here are the ways you can submit photos:

1. By e-mail, attach using any sane method or format. Send
photos to the main DLV address: dlv@geekbabe.com

You may simply reply to this mailing and attach photos.

(NOTE: Please do not send photos to the Discussion Forum
address. File attaches will not work to this address. Send
all photos to the main DLV address, dlv@geekbabe.com)

2. By FTP. Faster and cleaner than by e-mail. Please let us
know if you want to submit photos by FTP and we'll get you
the login credentials.

3. By snailmail. CDs, DVDs, floppies, or hardcopy prints,
any sane format. If you want these back, please say so and
we'll cover the return postage. Write in for the mailing
address.
. . . . .

Now, as for size and format ...

We'll take them any way you want to send them, but a good
sane size would be around 800-1500 pixels on the long side,
.jpg, medium quality, 72dpi. We do have scripts to normalize
the size, brightness, and contrast.

Zip or tar files are not necessary. We'll take them that
way if you want to send them that way, but it's not required.

If you don't know anything about pixels, zips, and tars,
don't worry, just send them in. :)

As far as prints, plain old drug store mini-lab prints are
fine and, unless they are unusually dark, they scan and
present quite well on the web.

Please don't send in any photos which are altered, such as
faces blurred, eyes blacked out, etc., nor those which are
captioned, composites, or fakes.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
When will the photos be posted:

This is our most frequently asked question in the summer
months, and in reality, we won't know the exact day, hour,
minute, and second that the photos will be posted until
very shortly before it actually happens.

We'll try this year to move things along as quickly as we
can, as this is something that many of you eagerly wait.

If you want to help move things along, you can do so in the
following ways:

1. Look over the "Missing In Action" list below. (YES, this
*IS* relevant to the Call For Photos.) If your name is listed,
please reply stating if you did or did not actually attend DLV
this year, and if you did attend, what was the first activity
that you actually attended. We will not be able to send out
staging area links until stragglers are accounted for.

2. Get your photos in promptly. The sooner the better.

3. Review the staging area frequently. If there are photos
you want taken down, say so promptly, and please include
the complete exact photo number (URL) of the photo(s) you
want removed.

4. DO NOT RESEND without being told to do so. If you don't
see your photos in the staging area, ask why. Don't resend
"just to be sure you get them" and such. Tracking down and
removing duplicate photos is very time-consuming and does
delay things as far as getting the final pages on line.

5. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions list before
sending in questions about the photos. The main DLV FAQ
page is on line at:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/faq/
. . . . .

Here's a summary of the most frequently asked questions we
get regarding photos. The direct link to the "photo" section
of the FAQ is here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/cgi-bin/afaq.cgi?k=/dlv/faq&c=9
. . . . .

Q: When will the photos of the latest event be posted?

A: It depends on a number of circumstances, but over the
past several years, the follow-up pages for the current
year's event have been placed on line in the fall of that
year.
. . . . .

Q: How can I tell if the photos of the latest event are posted?

A: Look in the "Past Years" section on the main DLV page. If
the year of the latest event appears, the photos have been
posted. If not, they have not. We will not tease you with a
link that leads only to an "under construction" page.

An announcement will be made in our next general mailing after
the current year's photos have been posted.
. . . . .

Q: Why does this take so long?

A: First the photos have to be gathered. Some come in almost
immediately, but others come in later, some by snailmail, and
some in the form of prints, which have to be scanned. This
typically takes 2-3 months.

The number of photos received has averaged over 1500 for the
past few years. These are then reviewed, normalized for size,
brightness, contrast, etc., edited if necessary, and placed
on line in a temporary staging area.

Next we allow those who attended to review the photos and they
may request removal of any photos in which they appear. We
always allow at least two months for review and removal request.

It's not until after the removal requests are in and processed
that the follow-up pages can be composed and placed on line.

Your understanding and patience are appreciated.
. . . . .

Q: I attended the last DLV. How can I preview the photos?

A: Read your e-mail. The instructions on how to preview and
request photo removal {will be} sent to you.
. . . . .

Q: How do I request a particular photo to be removed?

A: For both the photos in the current year's staging area
and for those on line, send us an e-mail with the COMPLETE
EXACT URL OF THE PHOTO YOU WISH TO BE REMOVED.

To do this easily from most modern computers, view the photo
in full size and copy-paste your browser's "location" bar
into an e-mail to us.

Descriptions such as "the third photo from the left on the
second row" are not adequate to process your request!
Likewise, requests such as "remove all photos of me" are
impossible to process. You must explicitly denote all
photos you wish to be removed.

If the photo contains multiple people, please indicate which
individual you are.
. . . . .

Q: What are the valid reasons for requesting a photo to be removed?

A: Anything! Including "I just don't like the way I look in
that photo" and related reasons.
. . . . .

Q: How many photos can I request to be removed?

A: Any reasonable number of photos in which your recognizable
likeness appears.

Please note that unless there are extenuating circumstances,
we will not remove the official posed group photos, nor will
we blur faces or black out eyes.
. . . . .

Q: How long does it take to process a removal request?

A: For the current year's staging area, usually a few days
to a week or so. For existing follow-up pages, usually a
few weeks.
. . . . .

Q: I requested removal and the photos are still there!

A: Please remind us. E-mail is not a perfect medium. Humans
make mistakes!
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Survey reminder:

Thanks to all who have taken the follow-up survey.

If you attended, and have not yet taken the survey, please
do so.

You can take the survey by clicking here:

http://www.geekbabe.com/dlv/2010survey.html

To make it easier for you and to speed things along, if you
did not participate in any particular activity, or if any
particular question does not apply to you, you may leave the
corresponding item blank and skip to the next.

Please take the survey only once, with one major exception:

If you ever want to add any additional comments in the final
boxes, please bring up the survey again, go directly to the
final free-form text boxes, and submit another entry without
checking any of the buttons or checkboxes in the main part
of the survey. You may do this as many times as you like.

If you wish to comment further, or you wish to comment in
the first person in your name, please send your comments,
both positive and negative, to: dlv@geekbabe.com

This survey will remain on line through the month of May.

Thanks to all for giving us very valuable feedback!

Still missing in action:

Why is this relevant to a call for photographs?

Because all who attended will get to look over the submitted
photos in the staging area before they go in the public area
on the web.

If you're not counted as present this year, you will not
get a link to the photo staging area.

So, once again ...

If you are on this list we don't have any record of you
actually participating this year. This could be by
oversight, by human error, or just due to the fact that
you did not attend anything where check-in was available.

Anyway, if your name is on this list and you DID attend,
please reply, and please state the first DLV activity
which you attended.
. . . . .

Reminder: This is NOT a list of those who attended. It's
a list of those who, for one reason or another, are NOT
accounted for.
