Call for comments and discussion:

On the DLV organizational list, it is agreed that it is best if we be
sure to set the dates of DLV 2001 as soon as possible, so that word can
get out and people can make plans.

Things are leaning toward scheduling Diva Las Vegas 2001 to run from
Wednesday evening, May 2, thru Monday, May 7. This immediately
precedes Networld+Interop, which runs from May 7 thru May 11. It also
avoids Mothers Day, which is Sunday, May 13.

We would like to maintain the following schedule as far as setting the
dates and preliminary planning:

August 1-31, 2000: Call for comments about the tentative schedule.

September 1, 2000: DLV 2001 dates "in stone" and announced.

Sept-Dec 2000: Preliminary event planning and call for volunteers.

January, 2001: First draft daily schedule announced.

This is the time for comments and discussion, gang.

If you like the above dates, please say so. Likewise, if those dates
above are a problem for you, please speak now or forever .....

Since this issue potentially effects everybody, comments will be
reflected to this list. If a concensus cannot be reached, a call for
votes will be made at the end of this month.

If you have a comment, please simply hit REPLY to this message, as this
is the month for discussion.

I would appreciate comments and feedback on this one, gang. :)

A different twist on restrooms:

{slightly edited and formatted}

>Here's something I saw today which will interest your people in
>sight of all of the restroom problems. Hope you find interesting.

Uh, I would definitely not use the phrase "all of the restroom
problems" at all. The only real restroom problem (other than finding a
public one at 0-dark-30 at 7-11 {ducking}) is at only one establishment
which, ironically, claims to be GLBT-friendly.

>>Mandalay Bay has a feature that I have never seen before - UNISEX
>>restrooms! They're located between the Rock Lobster and China Grill
>>restaurants and you can access these coed toilets from either
>>restaurant! Here is how they work.
>>
>>You enter the area by sliding through a beaded curtain. Each stall also
>>has a sink and mini TV monitors which show videos.
>>
>>Don't stand too close to the stall door as you can see shadows through
>>the plastic. It is too hilarious to see the people's faces when they
>>walk in and see someone from the opposite sex standing there! I saw
>>some squeamish people walk out!

Interesting. I've never seen these, but, I have a sneaky feeling this
is gonna be a place where people are MORE apt to watch what sex/gender
somebody is.

I've seen unisex restrooms before in the form of a third one/set with
both the male/female icons and/or the term "family" displayed, often
with a "baby changing table" sign. I've never seen these in any of the
casino-hotels in Las Vegas.

Possible misunderstanding about accommodations:

(From a note to dlvorg ...)

>Now comments on a place for all to stay. I meant to say this before, but
>I didn't. I was really disappointed when I found out that most of the
>contignent from Arizona stayed at the Hilton at reduced rates. Why
>didn't they ask if anyone else wanted to be included in this deal? I
>went to one of the rooms and it was a nice room for $50, the price I was
>told.

This was announced in the list on March 26, under the title of "Las Vegas
Hilton Deal". See http://www.geekbabe.com/annie/dlv2klist/

+>Our "base of operation" for the conference will be at the Las Vegas
+>Hilton, as most of our members are planning to stay there. We have been
+>able to garner a FABULOUS rate, that if you wish to pass on, would be
+>fine. Attendees should call the LVH DIRECTLY on their toll free number
+>at 1-800-732-7117, and ask for the Spring Package special.. $49 per
+>night, plus 2 for 1 dinners, gaming specials, etc. Pretty good , eh?
+>They are limited, however.

+That's really a good deal, especially if it covers the weekend as well
+as the weekdays. I also suspect this might not be available the week
+before, since LV Hilton is one of the host hotels for Networld+Interop.

There was also another special announced, at the Imperial Palace.
